Standard MINI ones shouldn't affect the insurance, if only because if the worst happens and you get into a crunch with a set of OEM 15" or 16" wheels rather than the 17"s, nobody would bat an eyelid.The problem is the insurance. As I'm 17, some new wheels (even standard MINI ones) will push the price up hundreds of pounds.
Coopers came with all three from the factory I believe so the insurer would be none the wiser to what you had originally. And they'd not be worth declaring as a result.
If it was a set of aftermarket ones, you'd have more bother, as they'd be apparent in any photos of the scene or if the car was carted off to a breaker.
