Phew, well now that I've won it I can divulge that the set in question was 4888 Ocean Odyssey, thankfully there were no other bids because I stupidly thought "I need this badly enough that I'll bid £70 for it" which was dumb, luckily I didn't find that out the hard way. Also I'd been checking the listing probably three times an hour all day and then almost missed the end because we started watching the last episode of Adolescence which sucked me in almost immediately. Luckily I had the foresight to set an alarm...

4888-1.png

The little submarine fits inside the big one and the thing on the left attaches to the thing on the right, the big sub also has a hatch on the back to load the sonar buoys you can see coming out of the bottom. I think the scale of that photo is off, though, the big sub isn't that big.

I'll be keen to build this one to sniff out any broken or non-Lego pieces (an unfortunate hazard buying used but meh, it's cheap) so will share my own photos when I do.

Pictures inside your bathtub or it didn't happened! :gtpflag:

That takes me back to my childhood, being confused as to why Lego boats don't float...
I had some kids meal from McDonald's or Hardee's or somewhere like that that came in a boat shaped box with a plastic bottom. I kept the bottom to put my Lego boats in. :D

OT, but I just watched it and thought it was quite boring. I thought they could have completely skipped the 3rd episode and tacked on the last little bit of the last episode to the end of episode 2 and made it 2 episodes, or just a regular movie.

Do any of you have favourite Lego YouTubers? I don't routinely watch Lego YouTube but off the top of my head I've enjoyed Jang, Racing Brick, Eggy Bricks, Brick Experiment Channel, Tiago Catarino and OSUHARDING1's old Creator 3-in-1 reviews, he is quite frequently the only person to have made a half decent review of a set I'm interested in which is worth some appreciation, even if his videos aren't great.

Of those, Eggy Bricks is probably my favourite channel because of how they use Lego to talk about other things, and quite a broad range of other things at that, or they explore around the sets in interesting ways. For example:

Personally I would quite like to make some well-produced (i.e. properly lit and in focus) videos of the older and rarer sets I own but it would be pretty much just for me, look at any video (that isn't one of Jang's at least) of an old Creator 3-in-1, if there even is one, and it's just not good but there's clearly not much, if any demand. That said, I work for a museum and it pains me to see these artifacts of Lego's history having such scant presence on the internet in 2025. I mean sure you can get the inventories and instructions to build your own but quite frequently you can't actually find a good visual record of the set beside the few photos and box shots on Bricklink or Rebrickable.

Also what is with speed builds (usually time lapses with no commentary), or worse, CGI build animations where all the bricks just float into place? Who's watching those things? I can understand someone like Jang hosting parasocial build stream hangouts but just watching someone build an entire set in a couple of minutes doesn't seem very interesting to me.

Uh Oh Omg GIF by ESPN

I really mean speed builds like the one in this video, which otherwise seems decent but I can't watch it with sound right now, where the pieces just appear one after another:

I get that it's a satisfying time lapse technique and they're fun and fairly easy to make, but I don't understand why someone would want to watch this kind of thing enough for it to be such a popular genre of video. I mean quite frequently the only videos I can find of sets I want to see a review of are speed builds like this, or worse, the CGI ones, and they just don't tell you anything and aren't particularly interesting.

Racing Brick is the go-to for the Technic and car related sets, love that channel. Used to watch Bricksie a lot for the curiosity but his main thing is a massive custom Lego city and reviews of new sets, so I don't go there often anymore.

But lately my two favorites are relatively small Lego channels with great production value: TrikBrix and Kelton Davis. These guys do classic Lego content and that's what I am all about lately

I usually watch Racing Brick and Brickclicker.

This is my first Speed Champions F1 set and was a gift from my little brother. It was more challenging that I thought for my tired eyes due to the abundance of small black pieces and lots of stickers. I don't think I'll buy another from the set but I would be curious when the new cars come around for the 2026 season.
Looks to me like you did a perfect job there mate. Well done!!

Picked up two classic sets from 1998 to round out my Adventurers Desert collection: Adventurers Car (2995, the tan vehicle on the left) and Adventurers Tomb (2996). They may not look like much (because they aren’t lol) but these two sets often go for high prices due to their limited release. I never intended to buy them, though a decent deal came up and I couldn’t resist.

*Ewoks and pinball machine sold separately 😂

I've said before how I fell out of love with Lego Star Wars because it's too grey, but I like the idea behind 75392 Creative Play Droid Builder - four small brick built Astromech droids with funny hats and stuff. When I first saw it I thought I must be dreaming, but for £90 I realised no, it's Lego who's dreaming.

Anyway,

Open box and the seller has taken the Obi Wan (as in the show) Leia out, £27's not too bad considering I've seen people trying to sell them for £45. I hope the seller didn't pay full price though because £66 for that Leia figure is about three times what they sell for on Bricklink. Also there were 8 bids on this and I swooped in 3 seconds from the end with a £25 bid and got it for £24.10. If you're not upsetting multiple people are you even doing eBay right?

Back in the day I kind of wanted the 42039 endurance racer but never got around to buying it. Something similar happened with the 42156 Peugeot. But now I finally have my own Lego hypercar!

Yeah, I don't care much about minifigs so I'd have been happy with that.

Amazon has this on sale right now. I'm currently building it. They also had the Batman animated series Batmobile for about the same price a few weeks ago and I got that too. The Batmobile is ridiculously overpriced at regular price.

@TB I had the Millennium Falcon Microfighter that came with Chewie for a few years for this exact reason! Even if I could afford the big Falcon I wouldn't have anywhere to put it, not even disassembled.

@Awong124 I like that Batmobile, I'd quite like to collect the smaller versions of the classic TV, 1989 and TAS ones but I've got other priorities at the moment. Then again I imagine the others are only going to go up in price when most of the things I want have already gone up as much as they're likely to.

Speaking of stuff being expensive, I just remembered this exists:

I want it, but do I >£100 want it? Probably. I do like weird Lego.

I just impulse bought the Polaroid camera set. The wife was there at the store with me, so it must be okay then

I have three sizeable sets on their way to me right now and realised today I'm completely out of space. Huh. Not sure what to do about that one! Maybe I'll have to... Build something? And have a built Lego set out on display? Is that a thing people do?

I've been facing the same dilemma for a while now. I rarely buy sets anymore because I am out of space to store them and I rarely build sets anymore because I have nowhere to display them.

People do display Lego, in fact I used to! My sister has her Lego "food truck/restaurant" collection on display in a glass cabinet 🤣

Edit: Found a picture of some I had displayed some years ago.
