Nice drive last night Dabney, were you able to get by on 1 pit stop? With the beetle my tires were shredded after about 17 laps. Although that could be because I was lighting up the fronts on the exits for the first and last corners.

Yeah, just one pit. I try hard to not get the tires in the red, and I was getting to about 19 laps before it got really slick.

I went from lap 19 to 40 on one set. Started with mid 2:14s and finished with high 2:16s and low 2:17s. And that was with ABS off. I couldn't break 2:16 with ABS on because the car would never turn in.

Gah, got disconnected, oh well. I'll keep showing up, won't hurt me. :D

Did your PS3 crash or did you just get disconnected from PSN? I got disconnected as well in a way I've never seen. I got a pop-up stating the ethernet had been unplugged and was disconnected..and then the PS3 rebooted itself a split second later. I wish there was some kind of diag tool or logs you could view with this thing.

I was able to reconnect to PSN but had wasted enough time so called it a night. Think I might be taking a break with this game for a bit.

(lol)

I watched the replay and I'm still scratching my head. I nailed the turn 39 times without fault, but on lap 2 my car just turned around and went straight for the inside barrier...then bounced off. If it didn't bounce, Diabolic would have been able to go around the outside.

I'm really surprised the two of us made it all the way back to the front. Of course, Esh got dropped and he should have had 2nd (I'm ok with giving it to him if it keeps people interested for the remainder of the series).

For about 10 laps I was positive Diabolic was going to catch me. I spent way too much time looking at the map to see what the gap was and finally I just decided to ignore it figuring the worst that would happen is that we'd end up in a draft battle. I ran pretty close to a 2:14 flat during that chase but no 2:13s the entire race.

For a split second I had hope. I've never seen a car ricohet that far back. Plus I was shocked to s it happen to you. I think if it happened next week ill make it somehow, but at that moment it was very surprising.

👍

I've been doing some offline tuning instead of bothering with online racing. I just wish the physics was the same. I've created a few great offline tunes but they are complete garbage online.

I just got disconnected from PSN, I was a little aggravated so I just shut the PS3 off. Better to chill out and not flip out, then throw a fit.

I don't like to quit. No matter how far back I am, I will race until the end. It's obvious that I need the practice anyway.

But last night the race went too late for me. I was starting to fall asleep, and I was in no shape to keep going for another half hour. Sorry, but I did what was in my best interest at the time. It's been a really busy week for me, and I needed at least 5 hours of sleep before my work day.

One thing though, racing at Tokyo finally forced me to learn how to navigate that course in a half-decent line. I've always had trouble there, but I think I've got it now.

I really enjoy that track, it's very challenging. I think the most fun there is a stock Caterham on CS tires, which will definitely teach you the lines.

No mods for me.

I'll do my best to show up this evening, but it will depend largely on the game. UNC/Duke at 9pm EST. Go Heels!

Great race last night. My EXA was just barely quicker down the straight compared to Nic's Mini. For the first 10-15 laps I would fall behind through the esses then catch back up drafting down the straight and braking into turn 1. Then Nic's pace slowed a little and I was able to draft pass him after two attempts. Up until lap 28 he stayed behind me even though I forced him to run slower laps. I pitted and Nic stayed out. I started shaving off about 1 second per lap but when I got within 15 seconds with 12 laps to go, he pitted. That put him about 12 seconds behind with 11 to go. He came up fast. and with about 3 to go he was on my bumper. I held him off as best I could but with more grip he was able to stick an outside pass with 1 lap left. I caught back up in the draft but I couldn't hold the same speed through turn 1 and he pulled away for a clean win. Nice job Nic! I know you weren't planning to pit but I think a late stop was the only way you would have beat me...unless you were holding out at the beginning of the race.

My car was fast last night, but not fast enough to overcome mistakes. The heavy-ass v-dub was just too slow through the curves. I wish more had shown up last night.

Me too, that course can be real fun when you have a full grid of drivers bubbling up and down the leader board. When you made that mistake, I really thought you were just going to catch back up. I could only run 1:02 if I was going to preserve my tires although I did run a 1:01 flat following in Nic's draft.

Yeah, I was running consistent 1:01's. The Beetle has tons of power, but the gearbox is way too short.

The spreadsheet is all updated, except for Nick's tab. I don't really have any of his parts from race 2 until last night.

Nic's pace slowed a little
I did slowed my pace after 10-15 laps to preserve my tires (I could not pull away from the draft anyway)...We were both running about running about 1:01.1-2 for the first 10-15 laps, then I dropped my lap times to 1:01.5-6....After my pit stop I ran 4 or 5 laps at 1:00.9 .I almost waited to much to pit.

@Dabney I sent all my parts selection to Bowtie (beside last night)...I can send you the complete parts list for every race if you need?

Yes, please PM them to me. Sorry for the confusion; I didn't know Bowtie was going to disappear.
