But PD would've had to get the image rights for that suit from McLaren, as they own Ayrton's image rights from 1988 when he joined to 1993 when he left for Williams. They can't just chuck it in, which suggests that at least had some form of contact and contract with McLaren regarding ingame content. This then leaves the possibility that there are McLaren/Senna items still to come. Why put the suit in without also getting the car that goes with it? If McLaren were willing to sign off this part of the licence, why would you not spend more and get a car as well?

MCLAREN AUTOMOTIVE is obviously McLaren property, it wouldn't be allowed to appear without their permission (although the rest of the suit could appear).

Senna's image rights as a person belong to his family, however anything F1 related could come under the teams licence or even FOM's licencing. As the suit was supplied to Senna by McLaren and as I said, their name is on it I presume McLaren were at least asked permission for PD to use it.

They are using Ayrton's helmet and suit from the 1988 season. Those things come under image rights contracts, which McLaren and not the Instituto Ayrton Senna hold for that period. The sponsors on the suit don't belong to McLaren no, but the suit itself with those sponsors on does. Remember sponsors are paying for space on the team's property, and as such they are signing over use of their name and image on that object (within fair use, video games likely coming under that).

As for who owns what for this particular period, I point you to this interview with Kaz at the time of the original annoucement.

Well they must've made some headway on that to include his 1988 image (his correct to period helmet and suit being part of that) in the game. It also stands to reason that if you have the opportunity to include this, it's not that much more of a stretch to perhaps get a licence for a car. Of course the simraceway deal muddies that idea a little bit, but Sony have a little more muscle (and global presence) than whoever makes simraceway...

I'd say that 1. if it's ready, release it regardless, 2. the Senna content is not strictly directly part of GT6, more like bonus content that also has a specific time period attached to it, and 3. the Senna content might be part of this update but restricted until the 27th?
