I'm a Porsche-file, so anything Porsche would be great if Polyphony could score the licenses for GT4. Of course I don't want to loose the RUFs in the process. But, as others have mentioned:

959
911 Turbo S (I prefer the 993 type but some of the older 965 and newer 996 types would be cool too.)
968 Turbo S/
928
Bring back the BTR, CTR, Turbo R, RGT, CTR, CTR 2, CTR 2 Sport
Maybe some Strosek and TechArt 911s
DP 962
961
GT1, GT1R, GT2

I'd also like to see:

Volkswagen
W12 Concept
Jetta (1.8T Oettinger)
Passat (1.8 T Oettinger, W8)
GTI
Golf (1.8T Oettinger)

Mercedes

SLK 32 AMG
CLK 55 AMG
CLK GTR

Volvo
S80

Lamborghini

Murcielago
Diablo
Countach

Ferrari
F-40
F-50
575 M Maranello
Enzo
F355 Spider

Oh yeah! GT4 absolutely must bring back used cars (there's something neat about buying a 95 Mitsubishi GTO and cleaning house) and optional racing bodies in different colors. Or even better, like someone mentioned, being able to choose from a series of after market racing bodies. Being able to customize paint/sponsor decals would be awesome too. I know that GT is shooting for realism but if the guy down the street from me can paint his RX-7 sky blue and put a bunch of sponsor labels on it, why wouldn't that be realistic in the game?

Every car from the JGTC. GT500 and GT300 classes. Not just the skylines, nsx, supras. Including the Team Take One Mclaren race car, HKS CLK, and Nomad Diablo. That would include some M3s 911GTR and even the Ferrrari that races in the GT300 class. And the Audi Le Mans cars Factory and Customer cars would be nice.

HEY I SAY THY SHOULD HAVE THE HONDA PRELUDE IN THE GAME i mean the PRelude is a decent car dont know why they dont have the preludes in the game any more

I am afraid I will against the general opinion here as I don't think GT4 should have a lot more cars.

First of all, it is going to be quite difficult to beat Electronic Arts who owns the Porsche license and who has made a very good game in NFS: Porsche Unleashed. As far as Road Ferraris, I believe Microsoft has the exclusive right to use the products until 2004.

Concept cars are nice but who really drove them. If anything they would be good for one lap and collapse immediately after. Anyways, how realistic is the physical behavior of these machines. Nobody at Polyphony ever drove these.

As far as trucks are concerned, I hear they will create a separate game altogether for these.

To me there are just not enough variety in this game are there are I don't know how many Skylines in the game while very little German cars. It needs to be more "geographically diversified" as far as car roster is concerned.

I would very much like Muscle Cars as well as their presence could broaden the audience of Gran Turismo but again, Electronic Arts owns the license for most of these in Motor City On-Line.

I would not mind a few other VW products such as the Golf, to put up some competition against the Civic and maybe the Focus if it also ends up in the game. Even the Mazda Protege could be there. These are truly international cars that everybody knows about and did not make it through the cuts but should have.

In any case, evrything with decent performance should be in there.

In my opinion, a significant leap forward would not be achieved by adding more cars but by introducing a damage model in the game that goes beyond simple tire wear as it would be another way to recognize good drivers.
