You're still ASSUMING what type of proccesor they will be using.

Of course we can only assume at this point but the single processor era is long gone so it's a safe assumption. Unless they work out a way to greatly increase processor frequency without generating incredible and unmanageable heat it's not gonna happen.

It's actually not as simple as I'm gonna say here but its close. For simplicity sake:

The fastest processor for personal use you'll find is 4GHz. Any faster and it generates so much heat that it can't be cooled down. PS3's cell is 3.2GHz and has 8 "cores" so that amounts to 8 x 3.2 = 25.6GHz. You can't go any faster than 4GHz with the current technology so what do you do? You either come up with an entirely new way to fabricate processors (people are trying to for decades) or you use a lot of the ones we have now. What do you think is gonna happen?

OK, so when Kaz said, "It'll be out sooner than you think" who was the "you" he was talking about?

Dravonic has said it all really, you can't get any higher than multicore as it means more than one,and what confused me about your replies on the subject, was it seemed to suggest other alternatives.

I do believe that research has gone into using light instead of copper in processors, but cost and the fact it's not ready means it will be straight up multicore CPU

Really...and what VALID evidence do you have to support this? In case you forgot there was a 3 year, 8 months wait from GT3 to GT4, yet both games were based on the same system (PS2). The general trend is only showing that there is a larger and larger wait between titles, especially as the proccesors get more advanced. When it comes to there being a 1-2 year period between GT titles ever happening again... I'll BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT (when it's in my hands)...much like the supposed GT5 release date

Not saying it will come out every two years, just that it's possible if they wanted once 5 is done.
With GT4 they delayed by a over a year as they rebuilt the physics engine,I think the core was carried over from the original or number two.

And in 5-10 years time when the next GT series is out for the PS4, they will have to laser scan all of the new car models between now and then,

luckily they already have a thousand done then, anything else means new cars.

You can only improve so much when you're already that close to the threshold though. 3-5% improvements in areas here and there to bring the game closer to the PS3's full capabilities, won't improve the feeling and looks of the game by any drastic margin.

Very true, and thats why this engine is being created so it will scale up on the new hardware,PD have said it,and to be honest they would nuts if they hadn't,and it was written in my first post.

"One of the reasons it's taken 5 years is to avoid another huge development.Gt5 will be technical base for the next ten years of GT."

It's got nothing to do with how much they still have left to squeeze out of it. It's all down to how soon the competition get their kit to market. Technology is a race if there isn't a PS4 within the next 4 years then Sony are out of the console market - simple as.

Generally thats true, but Nintendo have stomped the superior tech with a N64 (DS)and an upgraded gamecube (Wii)
I believe that MSoft say natal will extend their cycle,I think there's time.
And if Sony released PS4 within 4 years,it would be on target with how PS2 replaced 1,and 3 replaced 2.

In terms of tech Sony are in a decent position, unless this idea somehow wouldn't work (not assuming this is what will happed)

If they wanted they could release PS4 and have multiple PS3 cells as the CPU,they did design them to communicate with each other,(reason so many PS3 clusters are used as super computers) and it would be the easiest way,as all current PS3 code is transferable, you eliminate backwards compatibility issues, and you'd have insane performance.
You could even do a GOW collection with every PS3 game,it could resolution boost, frame rate fix, added AA,also nothing stopping developers releasing a new texture pack or higher poly models.

Technically they could announce and release that by christmas.

It's really hard to say, now that we know for sure GT5's fate rests entirely in the hands of the SONY marketing team. And there's another funny factor involved now. Kazunori sensei may have his team hard at work modeling more tracks and cars, working over the weather, damage and time of day system, the race mod system, and his negotiators going after a few more licenses, like a certain company beginning with "P." If this is a factor, then GT5 is definitely coming late, like in the west, say the first Tuesday or Thursday of November.

If Kazunori really is about finished, and his team is squashing a few last pesky bugs and giving everything a last coat of wax while they wait on word from the SONY Empire, then it could be as early as April.

Did i missed something? When did amar say that?
But it sounds possible, wouldn´t wonder...

And as I believe, and many other people here wrote the same, that it would be an PS4 launch title... wouldn´t wonder 👍

I´m sick of that game... watched the last 1 year every trailer, checked every day some forums and gtp... have not sleeped some nights only to watch the E3 live stream or the TGS and so on... And whats all we get so far? some short trailers and a few screenshots... ahh and the delay...

It's on the first page of this very thread, I just mentioned it, because I find it funny, he could still be right, after all this long time. :)

I have only watched 2 or 3 trailers, because i don't want to get spoiled, also the youtube videos quality suck for videogames IMO.

I bought a 360 and F3, now I'm looking forward to GT5 again, because I have something to play in the meanwhile. ;) 👍

You're kidding me, right? You seriously think the PS3 runs at 25.6GHz because it has 8 cores running at 3.2GHz each? It doesn't matter how many cores a processor has - if each core is clocked at 3.2GHz then that is the overall clock speed of the processor. You can't go multiplying them up like that!

Having more cores simply means that the processor can do more tasks at once. The key number that changes is the number of calculations per second that can be handled, which is why the focus is now on numbers of cores and less on the overall clock speed of each core. Multiple cores running at lower clock speeds also results in more efficiency in terms of energy use and heat generated.

I can't be assed to search to see if this has been posted yet or not. But in the new OPM (UK) Gran Turismo Special they say:

"When does it roll out of Polyphony - we expect a UK release sometime around SEPTEMBER - you're likely to find your patience has been duly rewarded."

Considering that people are reduced to complaining about unknowns now, I expect the world to give GT5 a pretty warm reception. Reviewers... uhh, that's another story. But I expect to be blown away.

That's called courage 👍
Well, it's certainly... something, though courage isn't the word I would have chosen. :D

When the Sony/PD media hype restarts its engines, we will know we are 3-6 months away from the Japan release, and probably 6-9 months from the EU/US release.

Seems AMAR will win, he will be the closest to the date since Wolfe is bit too early.
Wolfe: Mar 22 2010
amar212: May 07 2011
Man, Wolfe was pretty close.. He predicted almost EXACT date that PD wanted the game to be out, but then they change their minds and continue making the game.

They'll aim for Christmas of '09 and end up releasing March 22, 2010.
Funny, he was right. PD promised Xmas 09, then they said March in Japan... Too bad he did not see another delay.

actually gt5 will never be released............:indiff:

(it will be gt4 with better graphics and physics in 3d ofcourse:crazy:

I think it is 2011, but i do hope if Oct is true, it will be a worlwide launch not just in Japan only. but there is a rumor also that it will turn into a ps4 launch game, ouch!
