I'm quite good at licenses but I'm having trouble getting a gold on IA8. Everything else is fine (infact I've caught up to where I last was since restarting 3 days ago) getting gold on all tests up until this one. Does anyone have any tips for this particular test.

You drive a Mine's Skyline and the course consists of curves which get sharper and sharper. I'm generally 5 tenths to 1 second off.

Can't help you. I got as far as those slaloms and just couldn't gold them so I gave up. I even got a Mad Katz wheel this weekend but I'm faster with a DS2 as it turns out. Try typing "Iggy's Gold" into a search engine....a website with gold tips should pop up. I'm not sure how complete it is, though.

^ I found that test with the Porsches easier than most at that level. Basically it's about throttle control and when to turn in. Having had experience with that test previously helped quite a lot. The test with the Traction Control turned on was slightly easier, but for me it's about how and when you turn the car in the slalom. I don't think I needed to lift off either, but keep working on it.

I think it would be a good idea to help each other out so you can assist me with my test when you reach it. Anyone else can join in too.

I'd like to help, but can't remember the last time I toyed with license test in GT3.

I even have searched through this forum myriad times, and found nothing of the sort on License test guides.

All I can wish is good luck.

Thanks mate. Basically on this test I'm suffering towards the end of the test. The car is quite powerful and tends to have extremely high wheel spin. I'm trying to see if I can leave it in a higher gear so there is less wheel spin. It should make the car slightly easier to control too.

I like that idea. Personally I gave up on golds...I'd rather just finish the game so I can move on to GT4 guilt-free :) It'll still take awhile since I currently have like 4 GT3 games going...but I can help you plenty with the races, liam. parts of GT3 are boring (like lots of people said before) but most of it gets really intense if you approach it correctly.

I'm still stuck on the final IA test. Somehow I feel the S Licenses will be easier since I somehow do better at track times than segments such as IA8. I think there is more of a buffer zone in the S class tests (especially in the previous games) to complete a track in a certain time, than to do it in segments, with regards to getting gold.

The last 2 turns will make or break your run. After I make the last curve
before the S turn I accelerate at the curb then brake hard shift down into
first and drive up on the curb as far as I can without going into the grass
being very gentle with the throttle (important when in 1st gear) I round
the corner slowly untill I am pointed at the last curve. I then floor it and
shift up to 2nd. When I am near the last curve I brake hard and go as
far onto that last curb, still in second gear, as I can. You have to go fairly
slow arond this corner but not as slow as the first one. Then accelerate in
2nd untill you hit the redline. Shift to third to cross the line. I haven't done
this in a while but only took me 20 min to gold it and a few more min to beat
the demo. Another thing you can do to save time is to accelerate hard and
and shift up during the transistions between the left and right turns (etc).
Brake and downshift when you get to the next curve, getting on the gas
as smoothly as you can. Throttle control is important here to say the least.
Stay near the inside of the curves, don't go off the track, but don't worry
if you touch the dirt a little bit. It helps if you don't drift towards the center
of the track, as it messes up your line for the next corner. After you make
a run click on the demo and see where you are behind it. Watch where you
lose time and adj your line.

Try staying in 2nd gear. I'm really reaching for memory on this one (2 years + since I golded it, using a DS2) but I think I ran it up to 3rd in the slaloms and then dropped down only to 2nd for the following left.

One thing I remember for that turn is to use every last inch of track space. Start from as far to the outside as you can without failing. Brake hard and straight, then turn in. Light throttle through the apex but just a light kiss on the inside curb - too much and you lose traction to accelerate. Squeeze back on the throttle at the apex and let the understeer ease you to the trackout. Stay right and flat out to the braking point for the last turn.

IIRC the last Time Trial is the same car at a full lap of Complex String. Here's a writeup of part of the lap, which I also golded. This was written shortly after completing that goal:
The first turn can be a solid foundation for a good run. I brake firmly about halfway between the first two brake markers, downshifting slowly rather than jamming the gears down. A little Scandinavian Flick while the car still has momentum and a goose in 2nd gear gets it rotated and ready to accelerate.

I hold third through the Slalom until the very end. The first right can be taken flat out; then immediately after each apex lift for just a fraction and start turning into the next curve before you complete the current one. The single cone at each curve marks the apex, and you want to brush the rumble strip just after this cone - but at that point, you should already be starting to steer into the next turn. If you're turning in at each cone you're too late. The last two are a little wonky and even though you'll be nudging the rev limiter, don't upshift to 4th until you apex the next-to-last cone (a right). Take the last one flat out in 4th and edge the grass on the right, but brake early for the exit 90 and get a hard late-apex in second gear. This gave me a T1 time in the 50.high" range IIRC.
Does the license test start after the first 180 right, with a standing start into the slalom? If it does, you may not reach 4th gear; I don't remember. But a key to good time on this one is to carry as much speed as you can through the left following the slalom. Good luck!

Hold on, thar!

Duke, you're thinking of IA6 and IA7 on the flat slaloms early on in the circuit, with a RUF. Liam is talking about the test with the Skyline over the rolling hills between the constant radius turns and the chicane.

Although I've always been an AT guy (except for the Mini at Tsukuba in GT4 :grumpy: ), I agree with supert10's assessment of the test. Unless he's also referring to the RUF test, it's hard to tell them apart with the descriptions in this thread.

IA7 is the test with the Skyline and the rolling hills. IA8 is the constant decreasing radius turns untill you get to a slow and sharp S bend with the finish line to the left of the last bend. I ran this test to make sure my info was accurate. I did 3 silver and 4 gold runs in 29 min to beat the gold demo time. (1'08.288) I got a 1'08.072. My best time is 1'07.970. All 6 of my times are better than the gold demo time. You can still lose control in second gear if you get on the throttle when you are not pointed straight. I go very slow on the first curve of the S bend so I will be pointed straight at the curb on the second curve before accelerating and I brake just before I hit it. Going slow again untill I am pointed at the finish line. Only then can you unleash the power of the GTR. (IB6 and 7 are the tests with the RUF RGT.)

Not sure what the Gold is for your version but it's 1.07.500 for the PAL version if I recall correctly. I managed to complete the test and I am onto the S class licenses. I'm really chuffed.

I got as far as those IB slaloms...then I accidentally erased that entire game and had to start over. I was halfway thru the Amateurs, too. :banghead: :ouch: That made me so mad. Right now I'm back golding A's, but i'm not trying all that hard. I'll try a license run when I need to add an extra day to the game, for instance.

Aaa I have been there. My brother erased my card when I had just finished the final begginer series and was done with all my licence tests. He was going to buy one of my cars. Oh well. The Pal tests are apparently harder than the North American release. I wonder what Sony was thinking. Anyway I moved the time up to 1'07.442 with 20 more minutes of running it today. Saved the last bit of time on the final corner by not flooring the gas between the corners and rounding the turn without braking. Less is sometimes more. (our gold time is 1'08.850) On the turn with the cones, if you so much as touch one of them the run is over. Nice.

Yeah in other games too the PAL version was much harder than the NTSC version. In any case the fact that I've had to work much harder for my Gold Licenses than the vast majority is more rewarding. Done all the Rally tests except the final Rally exam which I can do easily. Just want to clear the S class first.

I'm really pleased, I have completed nearly every License test GOLD and only have the following left:

S-2
S-3
S-5
S-6
S-7
S-8
R-8 (Which I have done before easily)

I've been kicked out of home though so looks like I'll have to put this on pause :/

I just started GT Concept Tokyo Geneva a few days ago and just finished it today. All Gold Licenses and 100% Complete. It was rather easy and despite being short I enjoyed it quite a bit. I wish I played this version earlier as it gives me 10,000,000 credits towards my GT3 game as well as all Licenses unlocked (in Bronze though). I'm considering sending my 10,000,000 credits to my GT3 but there's no real need to. Can people repeat this over and over though?
