People keep referring to football as the 'beautiful game', i wonder what numpty thought that up, it's a 'beautiful game' in perhaps brazil or spain but everywhere else it's a compete mugs game (i'd be shot if people around here read this so just proving my point really)

Read about this. Absolutely shocking. If this had happened in Sweden tehy wouldn't even have got prison. They would get care, which basically means meetings with a cosy lady and eating cinnamon buns. Maybe some community service too. If they're immigrants they're probably going to get less. There would also be manifestations against racism.

That's what happened when a group of kids beat up an old sick pensioner so he ended up in a coma. Demonstrations against racism.

I think assault is a bit silly, its way worse than that, but I can see how its manslaughter.

Your justice system is messed up.

Goes like that every where.

Kill the PM or President.

BOOM! life in jail

Kill average joe 3 years.

What makes the leader of a country so special?, after all you voted them in so you should be more important.

Time to get worked up even more.

The 15 yo will most likely receive 1 year juvenile detention, and the 2 16 yo will receive 2 years.

But, there is a chance that the 16 yo will receive an adult sentence, depending on their state of mind, and then the punishment could be a bit steeper. But I don't see it happen.

They are most likely kids of immigrants, and therefor need extra care and nursing becoming an adult. And the major of Amsterdam will go and drink tea with the parents.

Is prison rape as common over there as it is here? I fail to see how a year of detention is anything close to a fitting punishment for killing an innocent man.

Maybe linesman should be provided a police officer escort?

Most of these "referees being beaten up" stories are happening outside the professional leagues, or certainly not in the pro leagues of a reasonable standard.

There are no police at amateur games, and it would be incredibly expensive to do so, so much so that it would probably mean an end to the amateur leagues.

I heard something about them being moroccan.

Nope. That is an American thing. Very rare over here.

Seeing that the Moroccan youth is nowadays the main subject, it could possibly be the case.

But I don't see how that makes this any different, besides the fact that if it are "foreigners" friend Geert has a new topic to scream about.

It isn't of course. It's still the same crime regardless of who did it.

Send them into the prison with child molesters for five years. Justice served.

It's a beautiful game being taken over by thugs and hooligans.
? It was never really a 'beautiful game' its just guys kicking a ball around. Firework dodgeball would be a beautiful game.

What i can't understand is even if they are young they shouldn't get anything less than a life sentence. Pressumably the dispute was over something that happened during the game, if you genuinely think that someone should die over an event in a football game (especially in a child's league) then you should be locked up without question. So as to why these boys haven't i have no idea.

It is a bit of a shame that as soon as something like this happens, there is a big chance kids of Moroccan origin are the culprits.

And this case, it is no different. 2 Moroccan, 1 from the Netherlands Antilles.

And Geert has spoken, somewhat wise words actually.

Wilders: This is a Moroccan Issue

THE HAGUE -
The PVV wants a parliamentary debate about the "Moroccan problem and racist violence" following the fatal beating of linesman Richard Nieuwenhuizen.

The linesman was Sunday by some football players of New Locks molested. Monday he died of his injuries.
"There is talk of a football problem while the real problem conceals. It is not exclusive football problem but a Moroccan problem that is out on the street, at school, at the mall, on the soccer field, etc. A large majority of the Moroccan youth has been once arrested by the police, "said PVV leader Geert Wilders.
He believes that the problems honestly should be appointed. Wilders calls violence by Moroccans pure racism. "For the victims are rarely Moroccans or Muslims."
MP Joram van Klaveren will request a parliamentary debate Thursday.

@Dennisch

Over here in the US, those charges would easily yeild 10-15+ if not much more.

Proud of it? You shouldn't be. No one should. Taking away all value from murderers or similar is no solution. Period. Happenings like this reflect how a society prevents the creation of such characters. Blaming and hating didn't bring as much further as a civilization since...ever.

It's good that they are punished, but no biologically healthy human being, being raised normally would act like that. Their environment is the primary cause, and thus, the environemt (society) must change to prevent these things. Just my thoughts on this.

What silliness.

I'd be more ashamed of a justice system that fails to hold people to the actions they committed.

Their parents didn't kill a person, their environment didn't kill a person, they killed a person. Nobody forced them to beat a man to death. They did it themselves.

I don't care if a family member is murdered by a person who grew up in a slum or by a person with a silver spoon in their mouth. That person has deprived another of their right to life.

This is about the comment above right? I couldn't decide if he was making a serious point or not.

Seems like a typical Alex p. post to me. And I'd assume Alex is serious, though he just condemns the US system then doesn't really offer a solution besides "fix the environment" which is probably the most vague and open ended response one can give. And completely ignores that these kids deserve a very, very severe punishment for brutally murdering someone over a game.

Or the kids could just be mild sociopaths. Then the environment has far less to do with anything.

Other than the fact that the English Premier League is considered the best club competition in the world (though some say the Champions League is better) as illustrated by the fact that the TV rights are sold right the way around the world.

Look, let's not get bogged down over the pros and cons of association football. That is pretty much irrelevant in this story.

Maybe football culture needs to be addressed, but the act of the sport itself in no way contributed to Mr. Nieuwhuizen's death. It shouldn't matter that he's a linesman; he could have been a cricket umpire or darts announcer and it would still be a horrific story.

Disgusting. They should be locked up for a very VERY long time.

Thats the problem. They probably won't be away for very long since they will be tried as minors. Just like the recent Facebook killings we had here in the Netherlands. Where two kids under 16, ordered another child to kill her ex-bestfriend because she was spreading rumors on Facebook. The poor girl got stabbed to death in her house, right in front of her father, who was too late to stop it. They ended up with very short sentences in juvenile detention and community service. Which I thought was BS, for a crime like that they should be put away for a long time and tried as adults.

Same applies in this situation imo, the severity of the crime should decide how they get tried in court. Something like this is unacceptable and shouldnt happen in a sports match. Ridiculous.

General rule of thumb:

If you're allowed/old enough to have sex, you should be subject to the privileges and punishments of adults.

Sex at 16, tried as a minor? Give me a break. As an aside, in Germany, the age of consent is 14.

Point being, these murderers are more than old enough to be held accountable for their actions.

14 is the age of "criminal adulthood" (where you can be charged as an adult criminally) in Texas on a murder rap. And thanks to most of the DAs around the state, if you kill someone in Texas, in the words of Ron White, they will kill you back. And I don't know if it passed the Texas legislature, but when something like this happens and there are more than three credible eye witnesses, you don't sit on Death Row for more than 15 years, jack. You go straight to the front of the line. Other places are abolishing the Death Penalty...

... My State is putting in an express lane.

Seriously though, any DA here in Texas would put those punks up on Death Row.

Today is the day of the funeral of the 41 year old Richard Nieuwenhuizen.

Yesterday approximately 12000 people walked together in a remembrance march.

I was at the Ajax-Groningen match last Saturday and they had a minute of silence before the match in rememberance of the linesman. It is pretty remarkable to see a stadium with about 30,000+ people be completely quiet for one minute. Strange feeling.

If they really wanted to make a gesture, they should have cancelled pro football too. and not how they did it now, by cancelling amateur football only.

But it is indeed a impressive and strange thing.

It was indeed impressive to watch, my eyes got a little watery.

I think it is OK that they didn't cancel the pro matches, this way they could make a statement for all to see. For instance by not being little cry babies each time they don't agree with the referee.
