AltF8,

"S2000s aren't the end-all, be-all of 4 bangers, jdhnc13. My WRX outruns them pretty easily (yes, I know I have a turbo, but the 2000's HP is much higher)."

Dude I love the WRX's! Killer cars. But the S2000 is my favorite car next to a McLaren F1 of course. lol!

I know they aren't the end all be all...I just love the way they look as well as drive. I think 30 years from now they'll be a classic. They remind me in body style of my father's 1964 Shelby AC Cobra 289 (yes a real one)...they are VERY similar.

Gotta love being able to drop the top my friend!

Peace,

J.:D

Same here, only my limit is somewhere upwards of 147 in the WRX. Never had it up there though. ;)

The floormats actually say "R Racing" on them. I guess I would rather have a V6 that can at least squeal the tires than a little 4 cylinder. I will admit that a 4 cylinder with an upgraded muffler sounds way better than a 6. I don't think I'll be able to get an SRT-4 even though it's the best car I've seen in a long time. I'll probably get like a 97 Neon base model. Nothing fancy. Then I'll start upgrading the crap out of it. I'll take all of the stuff off of my car and use that as a start.

My first car was a hand me down from my Dad - a 1969 HT Monaro with a N/A 350 Chev V8. I had that from 1985 until I sold it 5 years ago. It was in really good condition when I got it and I made sure I kept it that way.

Second car was a 1994 VR Holden Commodore V6. Bought it 3 weeks before I sold the Monaro and it never missed a beat.

Third car was a 1999 Nissan Patrol 4.2 litre turbo diesel which I bought brand spanking new and still own at present.

Fourth and final car was a 2001 VX Holden Commodore V6 which I bought 6 months ago. Traded the VR Commodore in for an upgrade.

I also own a Honda CR500 for fun on the weekends. Honda 2-strokes rule!

1980 Chevy Malibu Station Wagon.

Not exactly the chic magnet when your rolling into your high school parking lot. Dropped the tranny out of her doing some neutral drops. :embarrassed: Hey, I was 16.

1985 VW GTI

Cool car, loved it! Had some good pep to it. Lost her in an accident. Almost went through the windshield in that one.

1988 VW Scirocco

Great car, had a blast with it. First time I was able to break into the low 130mph. Took a while to get there, but did it none the less. This car nickled and dimed me to death though. Lost this car in a accident as well.

1988 Acura Integra Limited (whatever the hell 'limited' meant, probably 'limited performance' )

Good car as well. Received many a speeding ticket in this one. Lost my license in this car as well for 6 months. Also lost this car in a accident.

1988 Honda Prelude

Another good car, but the transmition ended up going out on me. Sold the car to a junkyard for $0.00. Just had to get rid of it as a new tranny was as much as the car was worth. Plus, I was moving yet again.

1985 Honda Accord

Biggest piece of crap that I have ever owned. Bought it for $800 and found out that it was going to cost me about $3000 just to get it to pass state inspections. Traded it for my next car.

1988 Honda Civic

This car had almost 200k on it, but it was in excellent condition. Got it in trade for the Accord mentioned above from a Honda Sales man. Lost this car in a accident.

1990 Honda Accord

Bought this car off of my father, was in excellent condition and served me well. Sold this car in order to buy my next car.

2001 Lexus IS 300

Yep, cant really say enough good things about this car. It's my first NEW car. I love it to death. That is until I can afford a BMW M3.

$800 1982 Subaru GL wagon 5spd. First car, graduation gift, which I paid $300 of. Loved it, but sold it after 2 years. Always had starting problems when I owned it.

$1200? 1989 Mercury Sable wagon- Hated the auto trans. Was my grandfather's car before he stopped driving. The engine mysteriously caught fire in a Taco Bell drive thru. Is transmission fluid flammable?

$1400 1986 Honda Prelude- Rearended a Mercedes within 2 weeks (night, wet road, K-Mart just opened at the intersection...whatever the excuse, $1200 in repairs to my car, a burnt out tail light for him). Wrecked it about 2 years ago.

$900 1991 Honda CRX HF. 40+mpg regularly with my driving. Alternator died on the way home after buying it. Sold for $1400, but it's a moot point, as I was never paid.

$800 1988 Mazda MX-6 LX- Roasted on the highway when the lower radiator hose blew.

$1200 1991 Ford Tempo GL 4door. Bought from a 90+yr old lady my grandmother knew. Had 12,400 miles (yes, 12,400, not 112,400) on it in August or so last year. Has 26,000 miles on it now. Had original tires, replaced them and the suspension for $1200 total. Makes it a $2400 car...ugh. Girlfriend drives it.

$1200 1988 Mazda MX-6 GT. Bought the car off Ebay. Drove 250 miles to Miami area to pick it up. Insisted on a test drive before paying though. Has a few minor problems, but they're common on the car.

I heard the WRX has really wide gears. Is that true? If so, how wide are they? Too wide, or not even noticeable?

Yeah, they are pretty wide. Still gets up and goes though. :)

0-60 in 5.4 is nothing to scoff at. 1st will get you to about 40, second is good only until 60, 3rd will go to about 85, 4th is somewhere in the 110 range, and 5th will drag you up to the aero limit. 4th is an overdrive gear, so is particularly long.

I don't really notice though. :)

I've never owned any cars, but when i get the money a R32 GT-R will be sitting in my driveway.

A Integra Type R (newer one, without the four round lights at the front) or S2000 Type V are next on my list.

And if i can't get any of them as my first car, then i won't bother about getting a car.

The gears in the WRX aren't all that wide, Alt (with the exception of first). Consider that my 140 HP Integra will hit 83 in third gear...

First: 1984 Buick Skyhawk wagon. Two liter GM four, OHV, iron block and head. 100 lb-ft at 3000, 86 HP at 4900. 2883 lbs. 3 speed auto with a locking torque converter....it locked wonderfully, but it hesitsted to unlock which lead to neutral drops to get the pig moving again. I once timed the 0-60 - it came in at roughly 15 seconds. Fuel efficiency came in at 22-23 mpg on the highway. Plus it rolled like hell in any turn taken faster than 15-20 MPH. Got smacked into by a coworker and his insurance company totaled it. :cabbagepatch:

Yeah, it was a piece...but I still miss it sometimes.

Second: 1991 Toyota Tercel two-door sedan. Burned oil (quite severely toward the end) but never quit. Delivered 30 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway with my driving. ;) 82 HP at 5200, 89 lb-ft at 4400. 1950 lbs. 0-60 was roughly 12 seconds. Handling was OK (especially once I replaced the blown struts :dunce: ) but the solid beam rear suspension made the tail surprisingly snappy. Best parking lot drifter so far. :D Given to an aunt who rebuilt the motor, so she's running stronger than ever. 👍

Third (and current): 1998 Acura Integra RS.
fcc99a97.gif
140 HP at 6300, 124 lb-ft at 5200. 0-60 of 7.6, 2526 lbs. Handles sweet as an ice cream dream, especially with +1 wheels and tires. 32-33 MPG highway, 24-26 city (although it can be much less...ask me how I know! :P). An exceptionally well-rounded car. It does everything very well, even if it's not outstanding in any one category. I am itching to tweak it a bit more however... :mischievous:

I can't wait until I have my own car that is mine and not owned by my parents.

But what I do drive (I havent been out for any lessons lately) are:

1987 Ford Laser (Mazda 323 Rebadge) - A real bugger to start and keep going, got good steering (we had new tires put on the front and now it feels like power steer  ) and doesnt roll all that much.

1985 Mazda B2000 - 5 Speed Man, RWD = Good screechies. But my dad wouldn't let me do them on the open road when we were up north, no traffic what so ever and it was about 9pm, but he wouldn't let me drop a few burnouts. Damn expensive tires.

Awesome first car dude;) along with the other 3 mentioned

When I buy a first car in a couple of years (with the help of my parents:P ) Im gunna have a look at a P11 Nissan Primera 2.0 (SR20DE) manual. I would get a V6 Commodore but the chances of finding a manual one are about 1 in a million. But another alternative to the Primera could be an E30 or cheap E36. Im undecided at the moment.
Primera like this one- good race cars

You ever tried up here in Auckland?? Commodore City is bound to have some, here in South Auckland. Although that would be quite a trip wouldn't it? I originally thought you were from Hamilton. :embarrassed:

Yeah, the Monaro was a beast! Fastest car I've ever driven. I ended up putting a supra 5 speed gearbox in it in the early 90's which meant I could wind it out a lot further and make the 350 scream like buggery!

I ran into the automatic problem when looking for a commodore. I had to do a lot of running around to get a manual VR but the manual VX was easy to find. If you do get a Commodore, I recommend you take it for a long test drive. While on the test drive slam the brakes on as hard as you can at 100km/h. One let down with Commodores is the brakes. If the brakes are very spongey and don't lock or make the tyres squeal, get the car yard to bleed the brakes and do the emergency stop again.

The first thing I did when I got the VX was get 5 new tyres. Pirelli's aren't cheap but they do have a mountain of grip. I could lock up the front wheels before I put the Pirelli's on, not a chance after ;).

I get the Auto Trader every 3 or so weeks and I see no manual Commodores. ****wits that buy them in auto:mad:
And Sludge Slide, if I were to buy a Commodore, it would be a VS or VR so it will probally have ABS brakes
