Livery And Decal editor

Pure gold right there. I did chuckle out loud. Nice one.

Appropriate user name too.

Gran Turismo would greatly benefit from a livery editor. Not only would it extend the life of the game, but would give it more of a fighting chance against forza. Maybe add an online store to sell designs, that'd be great

You really do hint at the importance with the bit about extending the life of the game, though. The livery editor in FM4 has basically been an excuse for me to own nearly 10 different MX-5's, all in various states of tune, with a huge range of looks, too. Anything from essentially stock, with nothing more than some (Ontario) license plates, to light sponsorship stickers on the door's leading edge, to even something like this...

(Yes, a GT1-inspired look. Oh, the humanity!)

A livery editor has the potential to make every car unique, and for all of PD's talk of really pushing the ownership experience (we already have mileage, upkeep, things like that), it's one of the most glaring absences in the puzzle. And yeah, opening up the game's economy to include liveries? You could conceivably amass just as much money as sticking B-Spec Bob on another enduro just by selling your designs to the community. I personally think it's an awesome idea 👍

A good idea, I would only add numbers. Would like to be able to add fender flares and areo parts. Wheel and tire sizing should be added as well.👍

At bare bare bare bare bare bare minimum, we should have gotten the GT Academy style stickers and Stealth Car number stickers and maybe the double ghost stripes to add to the cars. And I definitely feel those MX-5 liveries are missed from GT. Hope it is brought back.

GT series is beautiful and about the perfect car.
I don't want those ugly cars to show up on my screen in an online race.
With all due respect to the creators, please play and stay in Forza:

I don't see anything wrong with any of those liveries posted. They might not be to your (or my) taste, but that's irrelevant.

At the very least, you could opt not to download (or upload) custom liveries when online.
Nothing wrong with adding the flexibility to the game in the first place; I'd definitely use it, although I probably couldn't be arsed to go into that much detail, instead maybe just a few subtle flourishes here and there.

You seem like the type to judge people for not dressing as you do, dying their hair, and just being different than you are and having different views than you do in general.

You shouldn't be so judgmental of people just because the have different tastes than you and would like to express their differences on their game of choice.

If we wanted to be on Forza, we would be.

What defines the "perfect car" varies from person to person. For me and others, there is nothing "perfect" about being able to only change the body and wheel color of our cars with GT's current limited customization system.

And you think those are ugly? Have you seen the hideous things people can make with the paint system in GT5, especially with the paint pack that's full of chrome, polorazied, and flouresent colors?

Exactly, you can already have a bright pink car with green wheels, not to mention gold chrome. I don't see how a poor livery is any worse.

Point well taken (althou my opinion is the same).

However bad colour combination we already have, it's very limited to what livery editor will bring.

Sometimes less is more, and very much so in this case.

Im not beeing judgemental.

Just saying that I don't like it, and those that want to play with liveries have enough games to choose from.

If implemented I wont ragequit  but if it can be avoided it's a good thing. It's an alien object in the GT series, and should stay so.

That doesn't sound very open minded though.

You choose to have Jesus on your GTP avatar. It's a customisation on the site which people like and use imaginitively. I don't see why those who want to can't do something similar in the game.

What should be optional within the software is the ability to turn off seeing other drivers' custom liveries if that's what some people want.

I buy "authentic" race car liveries when I play FM4. I have recreated some basic liveries but, the creative guys that do some of those Super Taikyu anime liveries, I tip my hat to them. That's the cool thing about the online store, you can choose to buy the ones you want.

Perhaps the existing options, of painting wheels and bodies, should be removed then? Or the dealer options for paint?

"Less is more" has it's place sometimes, I'll absolutely agree, but I'd never insist on intentionally limiting other peoples' creativity just because their personal tastes don't align with mine. If somebody wants to make some brightly coloured cartoon livery, that's their choice. I don't have to drive it, and I readily accept they might not like my car as much as I do.

Options in games are almost never a bad thing. And this arguably one of the features that technically brings the most options.

Im not beeing judgemental.

Well, you are.

Just saying that I don't like it, and those that want to play with liveries have enough games to choose from.

That's a terrible way to look at it though, don't you think? Since it's a feature that is available in other games, gamers should just play those ones? What about improving the series? :)

So was online racing. And damage. And flipping your car. And painting it (with paint chips of all things).

Besides, as has been brought up a ton of times in the past with regards to a livery editor; a simple "do not display custom liveries" check box in the options menu could exist for all those identi-car enthusiasts :sly: 👍

I really anticipate the day that a GT game has a proper livery editor. I really do. That's one easy way to increase the life of a car/racing game. The PS3 is capable and GT cars always looks fresh. It'd be a great combination!

Its' really no different from real life, plenty of people can ruin cars in various different ways and we have to see them driving around. Then even with liveries on real racing cars anyone can create some pretty awful ones, we have to look at them. That's life and I don't see the point of stifling creation because you won't like everything that is created. Again, that's life. You aren't going to like everything you look at.

Count me in for a ridiculously horrible paint job on a Veyron!

What should be optional within the software is the ability to turn off seeing other drivers' custom liveries if that's what some people want.

That would be ideal. Personally, I'd like to see options along the following lines (using the Australian system as an example):

Custom Livery Setting

  • Off
  • G (General)
  • PG (Parental guidance recommended)
  • M (Recommended for mature audiences)
  • MA15+ (Mature accompanied, under 15s require adult supervision)
  • R18+ (Restricted to 18 and over)
  • X18+ (Restricted to 18 and over)

:D

And yes, some options to be auto-disabled and hidden, depending on the parental control settings of the console. :)

And if the Custom Livery Setting is off, or a particular livery is above the set level, the car will simply be rendered in its stock paint.

Sometimes less is more, and very much so in this case.

That's using that famous 'designer quote' completely out of context, sometimes less is indeed more but always within the concept of choice and possibilities, not due to limitations or restrictions, that's called austerity.

Honestly, I'd LOVE to see a feature like this in GT6. Forzas have it, and one of my favourite things is to buy some liveries to my cars (like a very cool Nissan Skyline GT-R Pace Car - from GT - livery). On the other hand - I'm not very good at designing liveries. I'm now trying to design a Starion Rally Car (from GT as well) based from a Starion ESI-R, and, um..., it's not going as well as expected.

I'm willing to bet those that are against it have never actually played Forza and realised that the tacky/offensive/awful liveries are far outweighed by the good ones. Especially with the marketplace available to buy all the good ones which are always the highest rated.

Seems likely. I've seen more abominations on GT than Forza (in Forza it's near zero). There's a limitless supply of replica and original liveries of very high quality though.
