Livery And Decal editor

Seems likely. I've seen more abominations on GT than Forza (in Forza it's near zero). There's a limitless supply of replica and original liveries of very high quality though.

Obviously it's not an official feature but some of the pictures i've seen of these hybrids look awful. F1 tyres on a road car, awful color combinations etc.

I'm willing to bet those that are against it have never actually played Forza and realised that the tacky/offensive/awful liveries are far outweighed by the good ones. Especially with the marketplace available to buy all the good ones which are always the highest rated.

Having played FM4, I agree that there are endless amounts of naff looking liveries.

You get that with any creative aspect in a game. Like with the latest hacking of GT5 you always see 10,000bhp cars with totally wrong chassis swaps where the wheels don't sit in the arches at all.

Likewise there will always be those people who only spend 2 minutes creating a livery. But if there is a GT6 store front where you can buy/download liveries, the poor quality and offensive ones won't feature among the popular or top rated ones. So they don't bother or worry me at all.

The great thing about a storefront feature incorporated with a livery editor (and let's hope both are coming in the next installment): the "market" is very close to a free one; the community decides which are popular/best. In FM4, it's incredibly easy to find the high-quality stuff; just sort by most downloaded. While a few people will abuse the system (getting friends to bump the number), the cream rises to the top. You just quickly preview them to determine their quality, then download away. I've found so many quality liveries it's incredible.

And the half-assed liveries? Well, they'll have <10 downloads, so you won't see them online often :P. That obviously doesn't cover those who create their own terrible liveries, but after spending a few hundred hours online racing, my experience is the good far outweigh the bad.

Instead of trading paint chips, I would like to be able to trade custom decals. On NASCAR 2011 you could build and save layered decals. After a while, I was able to make all new cars in minutes using the sponsors I had already made logos for. Being able to acquire new sponsors to add to your own livery by trade would be nice.

A livery editor based on the shirt editor used by Konami for PES games would be the ideal thing. You could just work with your images on Photoshop, save them with a transparent background in a .png file, and them paste them on your cars...

Simple but brilliant if you ask me... 👍

I'm also of the opinion that such limited visual customisation options leads people to distinguish their own cars from everyone else's with increasingly striking - and one could argue awful - colour combinations.

Why trade? Why not just sell duplicates for in-game credits? I don't think PD needs to make aspects of car customisation as difficult as they've already made it.

Some more (old) info regarding a livery editor.

"Are there any features missing from GT5 that you’d like to have included?"

Kazunori said “Yes”, without hesistation. “But there’s still time to work on things!”

"Would this include a livery editor?"

“Probably not for GT5, though it’s certainly on our list of things to work on…”.

The livery editor should allow total freedom in creating liveries. Not just selecting between a number of pre-made templates to recolor. There's nothing worse than a creative tool that doesn't give you any freedom (like the track generator in GT5. It's fun to see what you can generate, but when you actually have an idea that you want to work on it's useless).

A livery editor would also make one-make races more visually appealing.

those F1 tires were photoshopped FYI, default rims and tires are attached to the body of the car in GT5 not the chassis, thus can't be swapped, it's been proven as bogus.

If it's the Integra, I think it was actually a body swap - a DC5 body on the F10. Of course it's not realistic, but it was never meant to be. Just a bit of fun. Awful colour combinations existed before the hybrids, too, so...

Just to bounce off of eran 0004's great post, there should be two levels of Livery Editor to reflect the two basic skill levels in the gaming community.

1. Templates, a variety of them, for each car. This way, someone with zero artistic skill can still create a good looking ride for himself. It should include decal placement and lettering tools, so the user can place their sponsors, racing names and car number properly.

2. The free form do-whatever-you-want level, where you use shapes and colors to be able to create any known or original livery you want. I'm even okay with the idea of importing .pngs and .jpg images to size and shape to put on your rides. If you feel offended by someone's "groinmobile," just filter it or kick them. They're usually poor racers anyhow.

A slight aside, but it was neither; it was someone taking advantage of the "breakout" glitch in Photo Travel, and placing a car directly under the DC5 that sits in that area to begin with 👍

D's suggestion would keep everyone happy; though I can't stress enough how much I think the free-form option needs to be available. IMO, it's more important than some template-driven boxed-in approach; the sad thing being, I see that as the far more likely path PD would take.

GT series is beautiful and about the perfect car.
I don't want those ugly cars to show up on my screen in an online race.
With all due respect to the creators, please play and stay in Forza:

good liveries out weigh the bad in FM4, without it you don't get this an many of the other classics. I've been playing FM4 since January, haven't seen a bad one in the lobbies i've been in.

I could post plenty more samples but only have this one available.

I barely can wait livery edition leads on goatse themed and trollface themed cars which keep annoying normal drivers at online events.

I would vote strong no for livery/decal editor.

Again, people refusing to see the full scope of what a livery editor would do for the game...

Maybe you should stay off the internet to avoid seeing those pictures.

That's the logic you just used there.

Wait till you see willy (you know what I'm talking about) liveries. Still I disagree with you.
