INTERNATIONAL B - FIGHTING MUSCLE
Car: Tried the NSX '91 but even though it has a higher top speed than the Corvette '59 it needs longer straights than the corvette to even reach the corvette's top speed of 204kph. So switched to the corvette instead.
Mods: None
Race 1: Close.
Race 2: Very close. Need to do some blocking at the end
Race 3: Easy.

INTERNATIONAL B - CLASSIC SUPERCAR FESTIVAL
Car: Corvette Stingray Concept '59
Mods: None
Note: You probably get a Miura and a Ford GT in every race, the Muira is not afraid to bump you hard.
You also need to run as clean a race as you can as you have to defend the racing line often.
Race 1: Very close.
Race 2: Very close.
Race 3: Very close. One spin and you miss out. Took me a few tries.

Here is a little fun on lap 3 at SPA. Just when you think you might just get away with it... you get pitted at 200 kph

INTERNATIONAL B - HISTORIC RACING CAR CUP
Car: Tried the Corvette '59 but it doesn't have enough low end grunt. Loose about 3 seconds a lap on the first Race
Mods: None
Race 1: Fat Chance
Race 2: Not tried
Race 3: Not tried

INTERNATIONAL B - MISSION RACES
Ahh.. this brought back memories from GT4.... I hated the dirt races... still do...
Race 1: These are getting harder. Took 9 tries to gold it.
Race 2: Easy compared to the others in this log
Race 3: AARRRRGGGGGHH rally mission... it 'only' took 39 tries to barely gold this.... :-)
Race 4: At seven tries it was a relief after race 3...
Race 5: The easiest of the lot. It is the short layout of ascari Brands Hatch and that threw me off in the first lap but not on the second.

***** MISSION RACES ALL GOLD LOTUS ELISE RACE CAR '96 AWARDED ******

INTERNATIONAL B - ONE MAKE RACE - CORVETTE FESTIVAL.

Car: Corvette Stingray Racing Concept '59
Mods: None
Note: I think this is the hardest race so far. But if you are 2-4 seconds behind at the beginning of the last lap you'll manage.
Race 1: Patience and craftiness is what you need on this one... Crossed the line sideways thanks to the AI who pitted me at the last second and also got me the "David and Goliath" trophy

INTERNATIONAL B - COFFEE BREAK
Race 1 - ECO CHALLENGE: Relatively easy to gold.
Race 2: Not tried

INTERNATIONAL B - GT ALL STARS
Car: AMG VGT.
Mods: Originally left it at 560 pp from a previous race but you really need all 580 pp so I re-did the whole championship
Race 1: Challenging. The hardest of the championship. The VGT is not as stable on the turns as some of the competition so it is a bit hard to take advantage of the top speed. Had to go back after the championship and re-do it as I finished 2nd by 0.054
Race 2: Easy
Race 3: Very Close

INTERNATIONAL A - WORLD CIRCUIT TOUR

Car: High End Performance G37
Mods: None
Race 1: Very close. The camaro z28 '69 chases hard to the end. I WANT ONE!!
Race 2: Close.

INTERNATIONAL A - WORLD CIRCUIT TOUR
Car: High End Performance G37
Car 2: AMG VGT for the 4th and 5th races
Mods: None
Race 3: Easy to close. Took a couple of tries
Race 4: CHANGED TO THE AMG VGT AS THE G37 DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH SPEED. Easy to very Easy.
Race 5: Easy. Ascari. Still memorising this track

INTERNATIONAL A - 15 MINUTE RACES
Car: AMG VGT
Mods: None
Note: The most challenging series so far.
Race 1: Challenging. Took a couple of tries but as long as you don't freak out by the initial 20+ sec gap to 1st you are good.
Race 2: Challenging. Since all the opposition is on race tires you can barely keep up with them in the turns. Your only option is late braking and hoping for a long enough straight to out run them (although you can't outrun the MacLaren F1)
Race 3: Very Challenging. Having done all those SL300 challenges and the 24 hour race in GT5 definitely helped. Not that it didn't take 4 tries. You need <7:10 in the first two laps which will put you in first place shortly after the start of the last lap. Then no mistakes allowed... well, I grassed it once and the McLaren leaped ahead by 4 seconds. Took until the second carousel to overtake him. Then he rode my ass all the way down to the finish line....

SEASONAL - MARIO ANDRETTI HOT LAP
Note: I did this race because the prize car is a 48 Hudson I thought maybe it could be used for the 79 races... sadly it cannot.
Race 1: Not too hard to gold. With about 1 second clearance on the gold requirement still rank 10000+ worldwide :-)

***** MARIO ANDRETTI 1948 HUDSON AWARDED *****

INTERNATIONAL A - RAIN MASTERS

Car: AMG VGT. Tried the GT by Citroen but it is a bit slower in the straights and a real handful under braking. The little wing in the VGT makes a huge difference
Mods: None
Race 1: Very Easy. Well it is racing in the rain so as long as you have clean lines and feather the throttle out of the turns you are golden.
Race 2: Easy.
Race 3: Very Easy. If you know the track and it is not raining hard (still 100% wet though) then it is much easier than the other two as you don see the light reflected in the spray (because it is dusk/night time). I passed #1 right before the 1st carousel. It was almost cruising after that.

INTERNATIONAL A - 550pp CHAMPIONSHIP
Car: High Performance G37. I tried this because of the extra grip.
Mods: None
Race 1: Loss. Close. Can be won with some practice.
Race 2: Loss. Not close at all. The lead car kept the same 8 second advantage for most of the race. Need faster speeds in the straights.

INTERNATIONAL A - GT300 CHAMPIONSHIP
Car: High Performance G37
Mods: None
Note: Most of the cars in the line up have better speed off the corners so you really have to keep clean lines and nail the exits of the corners. That means you have to avoid sliding into the corners, which works in other races but not here.
Race 1: Easy.
Race 2: Very Close.
Race 3: Close. Went off twice and lost by a second and a half . Came back after the championship and won it.
Race 4: Easy. I lost during the championship but the second time around kept better lines.
Race 5: Very close.

INTERNATIONAL A - SUPER GT500
Car: Tried three cars, the AMG VGT (no grip compared to competition), GT by Citroen (Marginally better than the AMG for some reason) and the Elixe Race Car '96 which was surprisingly good on the first race (finished 2nd by 0.157) but is only good for shorter twistier tracks so in Fuji it is just a sitting duck
Mods: None
Race 1: Challenging. Just missed out with the Elise Race car
Race 2: Not close. Not fast enough on the straights.
Race 3: Not tried
Race 4: Not tried
Race 5: Not tried

REDBULL CHALLENGE - x2014 JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

Note: Being the X2014 is basically pedal to the metal kind of racing. Barring the odd slow down here and there.. It is quite enjoyable :-)
Race 1: Very close.
Race 2: Easy.
Race 3: Close.
Race 4: Easy.
Race 5: Walk in the park. For some reason this was super easy. In first place 2/3 of the way on the first lap. Win by 18+ seconds.

***** GRAN TURISMO RED BULL X2014 JUNIOR *****

INTERNATIONAL A - COFFEE BREAK

Race 1: Not Tried
Race 2: Gran Turismo Arena . Harder than I though. Silver

So this is as far as I could get without spending money. So now it was time to hunt around for the best option.

INTERNATIONAL A - 550 PP RACES
Car: AMG VGT
Mods: Racing Hards $17,500
Note: I am not 100% sure this cannot be done without the racing hard tyres. The car is unstable on high speed turns without them. However this series turned out to be a walk in the park so maybe not needed.
Note 2: I went back and tried without the racing hard tyres. Races 1 and 3 can be done. Willow Springs really needs the tyres.
Race 1: Walk in the park.
Race 2: Walk in the park.
Race 3: Walk in the park.

INTERNATIONAL A - DREAM CAR CHAMPIONSHIP
Car: AMG VGT
Mods: Leave the racing hards on.
Note: You don't really have a chance of winning the championship with this car. It does not have enough downforce and it takes too long to reach top speed. In both counts the opposition is better. Specially the BMW 12.The point of doing this championship is to collect as many stars as possible to eventually get the 2013 Nascar prize (half stars) and try again. At this point I was 20 stars short of half way so it was worth a try.
Race 1: Very challenging.
Race 2: No real chance. Need more downforce but 3rd place is doable.
Race 3: Very challenging.
Race 4: FAT FAT CHANCE. finish 3rd and get the "Walking Disaster Throphy"
Race 5: Very challenging.
This gives you 2nd in the championship (by 10 points), take and keep thinking of getting half stars.

INTERNATIONAL A - WORLD TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP
Car: AMG VGT
Mods: Leave the Racing Hard Tyres on
Race 1: Very Easy.
Race 2: Very Close. I had to come back after the championship and do it again as I flipped the car whilst in first place the first time around (still finished 3rd)
Race 3: Close.

***** INTERNATIONAL A HALF STARS 2013 JEFF GORDON CHEVROLET SS AWARDED *****

INTERNATIONAL A - DREAM CAR CHAMPIONSHIP
Car: 2013 JEFF GORDON CHEVROLET SS
Mods: None. Changed settings on downforce and transmission as needed on each race.
Note: Race 2 needed a revisit after the championship was done.
Note: Race 4 needs more tuning of the aero and tranny. Best result so far 2nd by2.5 with DF at 230/430
Race 1: Very challenging. Df and Tranny on default. Maybe changing the low gears would have made it easier.
Race 2: Very challenging. DF to full and max speed to 290.
Race 3: Very challenging. DF to 290/490
Race 4: Lost by a little: DF to 240/430. 2nd by 2.451
Race 5: Very challenging. DF to 310/510. Max speed to 350 (which was a mistake) and final gear to 4.00 (great call)

INTERNATIONAL A - SUPER GT500 CHAMPIONSHIP
Car: 2013 JEFF GORDON CHEVROLET SS
Mods: None. Changed settings on downforce and transmission as needed on each race.
Race 1: Very Easy. Df 250/450 Max speed 290 final gear 3
Race 2: Very Close. Final gear to 3.5 max speed to 290.The car hits the limiter 2/3 of the way down the main straight but it is fast enough for the competition to just catch up at the end of the straight.
Race 3: Easy (or very easy if you don't go off like I did). DF to full and max speed to 320 final gear 3.5.
Race 4: Very Close. Top speed to 300 the rest as it was. Maybe a lower top speed could have made it easier.
Race 5: Easy. DF to Full and max speed to 320. You need 3 second advantage at the beginning of the long straight
THERE YOU HAVE IT 75% !!

I just noticed your threads. I'm currently at 52% as well but I suspect that I have more losses because I have a little more money. :D Looks like we must all get the same prize cars: I was wondering about this.

Yes, the prize cars are the same. None of that "random ticket" stuff from GT5. The money is not exactly accounted for as I have been letting my 8 yr old do some of the sunday cup races at her insistence. And obviously haven't put it in this log.

I suck at drifting.... It just so happens that i am a late breaker and that is no good on dirt... But i usually get there eventually

Late breaking is fine, just worry about where your nose is pointing. I tend to brake slide into a turn, regain grip (somewhat stop) then drive straight into a corner as soon as I see the apex.

Late breaking means hitting the gas to actually turn the corner is more important. (Cause hopefully you're facinga different direction than where you're sliding)

Also traction control is an absolute no no. Had this on by accident and it ruined everything.

I did the IB American events by simply skipping ahead until you get rewarded a G37, and then backtrack. You will smoke the American muscle events with the giant spoiler and grippy tires gluing you to the ground. You'll be forced to use the '59 Corvette for the 1979 events though, and those are tough because it's not very stable and probably doesn't have enough power. I had to win a 1979 event by buying softs and an ECU as much as I hated to.

Do you mean the Tour of America?. It wasn't hard to beat it with the stock stingray, except for willow springs which I am still memorising.
Will keep in mind the softs for the 1979 races..

So does this mean the historic racing car cup is just not possible without spending money? I entered the race with the '59 vette, it seemed the most likely candidate I had, but I was just blocking 12th from passing, and trying not to spin on the late braking turns.

How about the Dodge Challenger R/T '70? Need Half National A to receive it as a prize car.

I honestly don't know how it could be done without money.. I went in with the GT40 anniv. edition that I had fully tuned and I still came out in 6th about 4 seconds off the leader (which I only got to near the end of the race, was much farther off most of the race). I'm not the best driver but I don't think an untuned car is going to get it done. Tried the fully tuned Challenger as well but obv it wasn't as good at cornering as the GT40.

The Challenger is even slower than the '59 vette (tops at 176 kms vs 204 kms) and it handles like a true tank slapper.
I had another go with the '59 vette and I can't do better than loosing 2.8 seconds per lap and barely hanging onto the guy in front (usually a Daytona coupe). I think that if you put racing hards you will gain those 3 seconds per lap. Wether that gets you a win is hard to say as you usually need to be making up at least a second or two per lap (before the AI stops for coffee) in order to win.

PS Could probably try with a game save just to find out... I am kinda running out of races in Int A that I can win with the prize cars.

That's a shame about the Challenger, its just it had higher PP, so I thought it might have a glimer of hope, but seems not.

I guess this list will ultimately end with 'and I can complete 78% of the game without spending credits'?

Or, perhaps it will be a case of, the cheapest way to win the remaining events?

Well, that has been the case for the last couple of versions of GT. You could not do 100% without spending money.

In GT5 it was just over 50%
In GT4 it was a bit less than 50% (although I remember someone posting they got to 51%)So at 61% we are doing better already. Wether that is an indication of anything like skill improvement or the game being easier is another matter....

I know almost certainly that you have to buy the following:

- 2 racing karts (or is it three)
- Dirt tyres
- Non racing tyres for the Elise to participate in the one make race
- A car for the Like The Wind races.

The 'hardest' race for me so far has been Race 1 of the Classic Supercar Festival (International B) using the Corvette StingRay. I must have been knocked out of the race in sector 3 of the third lap a couple dozen times. The AI is very very harsh there. Eventually I drove two very nice laps and managed to overtake the Lambo Countach in sector 2 enough to get ahead of him so he couldn't catch up in the straightaway and spin me out.

I was so pumped about winning the RB Kart 125. I thought we could use it in the Career 125 Kart race, but apparently not. :odd: Is it not just a different paint job?

I was so pumped about winning the RB Kart 125. I thought we could use it in the Career 125 Kart race, but apparently not. :odd: Is it not just a different paint job?

Yes, they are very aggressive in that series. But it gets worse in International A with all the series with actual race cars, they will bump you in the straights when they catch up.

And yes it was a bummer that you could not use the prize TB Kart...

Oooh. I can't wait to get my NASCAR car. I hope they at least randomize the version of the car we get so not everyone online has the same car. I might take an old beater out and go site seeing in order to get the completion of race stars but I will have to count and see if there is enough of them first.

It looks like the % completion increases when you do the seasonal events too. I went and did the Hudson seasonal and checked my % before and after and it went up 1%. If this is correct it means that eventually with the seasonals many people will get more than 100%.

Don't know about using an old beater, these are no sunday cup races, unless your definition of an old beater is much different to mine :-)
