So ive been always having fun with gran turisimo but when i ranked up to S theres like no chance for me to keep up. Usually im always starting between 1st and 5th when i was a D C B or sometimes A. Like for instace the Suzuka daily race my time is 2:13 on my hot lap with the gr4 corvette. Before that was good enough to earn me pole position now with S rank everyone im in a lobby with are top 10 with an average of 2:08. so my question is should i get out of daily races to lower my rank or maybe try to get a good time with the Meagan gr4 but enter with the corvette

Both are good options, do whatever you want, just don't ruin anyone else's race if you go the lower the safety rating option, which is probably the best way.

If you run a corvette in the Gr4 on Suzuka, your SR will drop anyway, as you will be hounded by maniacs in Meganes barging past.

Yes to be honest I'm surprised this thread is even necessary as surely the op must have been bashed about by them because even if you qualify behind them they'll go off and then come flying back on and in a three lap race a few bits of contact will get you a drop in no time.

Not with a litlle defensive driving

its not that bad cause i started in front of 3 of them and they werent able to pass but perhaps it was the way they drove

I've got to say I think the OP must have meant lowering DR, the last drivers I want to be matched with are low SR, as we all know its DR that implies players are fast.
God I dont ever want to ever meet DR:S SR:E

I got promoted to DR:A today, I've been deliberately running GR4 in a viper to reduce it when I've gotten close before, but I got carried away on Nurb and was enjoying myself too much.

Yes in theory, but being a Sunday, it just means you get shunted, often off the track. lol

Yes it depends who you are racing against but some will do anything to pass, even if you defend the inside they may use the grass to force their way inside so they can use you to help them corner. Of course not all Megane drivers do this, especially the ones who are only using it to be competitive, as I do myself but it is an easy car to bash people about with and some will abuses this.

The game seems to prioritize SR for matchmaking. Even at DR B, I always see DR S drivers on the grid. On the other hand, I rarely see any SR below S present. The times also cover a wide swath and I think that's deliberate- if you had a grid with 20 cars all within two seconds of each other, it would be pretty mad.

It might be a good idea. I haven't gotten to finish a race yet on Nurb 24h as it keeps matching me with DR.S players, I'm lower DR.B atm. SR.S must be quite a small group when matchmaking can't get a field together where more than the top 5 can finish the race. It's not that SR.S drivers are any better at clean racing anyway. The track is long enough to see multiple people demoted to SR.A at the end of the race. Perhaps I should join them. I don't mind finishing in 12th after a good race, I do mind getting timed out every time on the last straight.

Its not deliberate at buisy times the top splits with full grids of A/S and S/S drivers often are only 2 seconds apart from 1st to 20th. And these races arent mad cause these drivers are in control of their cars. The bigger the spread the more madness you could expect because some will be good while others wont have a clue what they are doing.

I'm a D/S, my quali times would put me top 10. Instead, I don't post a time, that way I stay out of the way. Until I get faster it's the least frustration, just pass those that loose it.

I up and down mine all the time, yes i am not that fast to start with.I just sit at the back for a few races cutting corners, taking time penalties,SR comes down quick but DR you have to do a few extra races.Doing this was good for obtaining those 3 trophies.Be aware though the lower you go the more the bash n dash is although you can still get that higher up too.Plus it breaks the boredom of racing the same over and over and you get to meet more people.

If you prefer sandbagging to get easy wins, I have nothing against it. Just don't screw anyone else's race (SR S) while you do it. It's so easy to get SR S atm that I think most people will be SR S at some point, giving you the worst competition to play against and get your wins.

Personally I spent most of my day yesterday tanking my DR, I got down to DR/D and still got matched up with players from DR/A that could lap Alsace a good 5 seconds per lap faster than me. Though most of that stems from being extra cautious for the clean racing achievements I would guess.

The highest DR I've ever been is DR B, And yet I'll still get matched with aliens, And people say this matchmaking works? In my experience it certainly does not.

I think that's fairly inevitable, it can only match what it has to work with. There was probably another race with 20 even faster aliens and it had to put the rest with the next group down. It perhaps depends on the time of day as well, if you go on at a busy time then you're more likely to be in a more evenly matched group. FWIW I'm DR B SR S and for the most part it's been pretty reasonable. There's no reason to suppose that you should always be in a race that you could realistically win.

It matches by safety rating first, you have got to tank that if you want easier races. You will get some easier races sometimes with a lower driver rating but a low safety rating increases the chance of getting slow guys by a lot, of course if you are not fast enough to avoid the guys who are meant to be a low safety rating they will crash into you.

I assume the ragequit tactic will work for tanking SR correct? Once I finish up my clean races achievement I'll have a crack at that 👍

Actually it's not as bad as you think.
One of my FIA races top 20 all qualified within 3 seconds of each other - with the majority of drivers being within 1.5 seconds (think 4th to 18th).

You're spread out to begin with, and the group spreads out more as "packs" form.
Rarely do you get a train of more than 3 drivers, however the next guy or pack of guys might only be 1 second behind your group.

It makes it more fun because one mistake where you go off track can drop you down 6-7 spots.

I think it's worth it. I'm not a top 10 player, but I get matched with those guys. The racing is great, no doubt, but it's not great for trying to win the trophies for poles and wins, or the achievement for fast laps.

I took the hit on Saturday morning, demoted myself from A/S to B/B. 9 wins, 5 poles, 8 fastest laps later and I was back to A/S after my last race yesterday.

Yep quitting lowers it the most as far as I know and is probably the best way along with hitting walls as these won't affect things for your opponents.

For people hunting the trophies this is probably necessary too unless you get in the top ten regularly, otherwise it'll take quite a long time even if you are quite good.

Any way to speed this up, I've quit 4 races on the trot and my SR is still S, Have tried getting disqualified but nope no dice, Tried dropping back and racking up penalties away from the rest of the field still not losing my SR :banghead:

You could try driving around the track on grass, crashing into walls. It worked for me before.

Ill try now and report back 👍

Edit: Disqualified for ignoring penalties, Still no drop in SR :banghead:

It took me a bunch of races and a couple of evenings to drop from SR: S to B. But when it did, it quickly went past A to B.

My method: Daily N race. Don't qualify. Let everyone go. Short cut everything. Hit walls. Rage quit when the leader finishes. Sounds like you're already doing this, so just keep at it. You'll hit rock bottom soon.

Seems as though it did drop me from S to B, But the game didn't make this obvious until I joined another race.

So you want to drop your SR so it’s easier to start in a better spot on the grid and to have a better chance at winning?

Here’s an idea. Practice.

When I first got to DR/B SR/S the same thing happened to me. Always at the back. It was like that for a couple weeks. But just driving with those faster groups will make you faster if you’re paying attention. I now have much more variation in where I Qualify and have started getting podium spots and the occasional win. There are still plenty of races where I have no chance at winning but this isn’t Career (Easy) Mode. The fun is in the competition. You won’t get better by tanking your ratings and driving with slower people. All you will get is shallow victories and insignificant virtual trophies.
