I plan on bulding a cockpit like this

With these tubes

Does anyone have any suggestions on things i could do to make this cockpit better?

Are you going to be the only one using that cockpit or are you going to have some friends race with you in some endurance races at your place? Will the seat position and/or pedal positions be adjustable?

I understand you can telescope the tubing by putting some tubing into the same kind but with a larger diameter.

would using just 1.25" and 1" tube work? also where he says you need a 3.25" bolt for the base, how does this work and he uses a 1.5" tube and a 1.25" tube which equals 2.75, wouldn't the bolt stick out into the ground?

The problem with that design is that it can't be very stable, as the uprights are only fixed at one point on the horizontal base bars – which means it can sway left/right. IMO, a wheel needs to be rock solidly mounted to get the subtleties of steering feel. After all, even the cheapest, nastiest real cars still manage to have firmly mounted steering wheels.

The uprights need to have stable brackets/angle irons to fix them securely to the horiziontals.

I'm doing something similar myself with 20 mm square section steel tubing. Not far enough along with it yet to show meaningful pics, but I will report on it when it starts to take shape 👍

Put a cross brace across the top of the 2 vertical posts and an X-brace between the 2 diagonal uprights. This will significantly improve the rigidity which should help the feel of the steering

real steel supplier? would they tubes have those holes in them though?
EDIT
the tubes are aluminum. Is there anywhere else i can get something like this for cheaper. do you think the reverse mounted pedals as shown in the picture would work?

EDIT
Would it be possible to use other material to cut costs abit
