just wanna stuff a little thank you here, just got back the car they tuned for me as a prize for a review...
The thing is a beast! i never knew a big Jaaaaag could move like that, i knew it had some potential deep down, but it's a completely different car now, thanks guys!
I'm surprised there's not more people using that car.
Codename: Goldmember
Setup: Racing softs, TCS 1, ABS 1, SRF, ASM OFF.
Test track: Autumn Ring
Best lap: 1:12'866
Controls: Logitech Driving Force GT, Playseat Alcantara
So, I'm not a big fan of the SLS AMG at all. Yet, I wanted to try it out since I wanted to see if a tune could cause me to like the car a bit more. I think it worked even if I'm completely happy with how the car is moving - it's an immense improvement nonetheless. It's a bit too cumbersome for my driving style, the steering and movement just isn't responsive enough for me. Then again, it's still quite heavy and that's probably meant to be.
I've first tried to drive it with TCS 5 and ABS 5, just because I was too afraid of not being able to control the car but I was surprised how easy it actually was. Setting both TCS and ABS to 1 increased the fun and my lap times, grip was never a problem, thanks to my racing soft tyres. I've also tried to set the brakes to 3/7 and that worked quite well, maybe even a bit better for my style.
The acceleration never went out of control and the breaking seemed to be really sensitive, even when I stepped on the pedals and tried to make it break out. Although I still don't like the handling too much I'll definitely use the car online. The breaking and the acceleration are, as I've said, really smooth and I've never had the feeling that the car might do something I don't want. I had to brake quite early on the other side, which isn't really my style since I usually want to throw cars into corners, much like the Impreza or Lancer.
Much like the other supercars I'd advise experienced people to give it a try since someone who didn't drive something alike will end up on the grass, no doubt. I've had the feeling that it is quite "jumpy", taking this into account is crucial - it sent me off into the wall quite a few times during my first 2 laps, so be aware.
Thanks for the review! I'm glad to see that it has improved your opinion of the car. It indeed is a heavy Grand Touring Bruiser, which can actually be driven despite of all the power I've chucked at it. I might try and improve the setup once I have enough time to do so, based on the feedback. However.. You should try and learn to drive these cars without TCS if possible if it's not mentioned in the setup sheet. That way you can tell for sure if it's going to kill you or not. Also, could you please use the specified tyres..? That way you will not experience issues that follow from using tyres that offer more traction than the specified ones, such as snappish handling that you seemed to have experienced.
This tuning shop could be good as I know all Finnish people are nuts (in a good way!) behind the wheel.
There indeed are cases where RS tyres can mask a poorly tuned suspension under phenomenal grip, as well as cases where even the RS tires are fighting a hopeless battle.
Please do, and give Greycap's Focus same treatment.I see. I'll try it with the other tyres and update the review after I've done so.
Difference would probably be smaller if I would had bothered to buy a FC tranny.. but the whine annoys me even more now than back in GT4.So your RS200 is almost 1.5sec faster at GVS than the Peugeot yet only has 2 PP more? Don't even get me started on my Brera, the PP system is as screwed as ever if you ask me, but anyways, looks like a fun car or 2.👍
Scuzzilla - About the CoT, I believe that's the first time anyone has properly conducted a B-Spec test and now it seems to be confirmed that it works that way too. Great to hear! 👍 About the Focus, I can't say much until you indeed follow Leonidae's advice and test it on the SS tyres specified. Now there's far too much grip to see the true handling. RS tyres admittedly increase grip but what they do to the handling is always dependant on the case at hand - they can make a car but they can equally well break it. Not to mention that always AIDS OFF, with the exception of what's instructed on the setup which usually means ABS being set to 1. It's supposed to be you in control instead of some electronical thing that doesn't know a thing about driving fast.
Paulie - The main difference comes from the handling style, the Peugeot needs much more thinking when setting it up for the corner to avoid either going off in a swiftly moving cloud of smoke or understeering into the outside wall mid corner while the Ford is highly tolerant of fooling around, letting the driver concentrate more on the actual driving. Or pulling around every other corner in a glorious four wheel drift without fear of spinning out.
It's a Chevelle, an ancient yank tank.. It doesn't have snowballs chances in hell to do well against two homologation specials..
And as you might've noticed, it's barely slower with aids off and on correct tyres.
