Made For Racing (M4R) Nurburgring 24hr Team Thread; CORE VLN Round 2 Races this weekend!!

A respectable but difficult 3rd place for Mikey in the opening round of the #COREVLN.

Qualifying didn't go to plan, Mikey spun the car 3 times on his hot lap, but still managed to clinch 2nd place on the grid.

We got a fantastic start and almost managed to jump into the lead into T1, but Mikey though better of that high risk move so early in the race.

After 25 minutes, the rain came and with it so did the issues.

Pitted for inter's, all was fine, pace was good, until we pitted for the full wet weather tyres, the pit crew made a mistake and bolted new inters onto the car, so we were not on the optimum tyre for the weather, once we pitted again for the right tyres we had lost the lead.

Mikey tried all he could to close the gap and with the pace looking great was doing exactly what he needed, but found the car could be very unpredictable and so the time loss started growing.

Plux in the car for race 2, has a lot of work to do to be able to move forwards, but has a bigger gap behind.

Wish Plux good luck for his race tonight.

Unfortunately I did, but not much anyone could have done about it really, I didn't see you let off until it was too late thanks to the spray, by the time I saw your light emerge through the spray, I was already too close to be able to avoid you as much as I tried.

Sorry about that, I had damage and finding it hard just to stay on track. Let's hope 4 a dry race next time

Another difficult race last night for Plux, bringing the car home 3rd behind Memto and rClark. He did manage to close the gap to P24 overall and now we sit 2nd, 1:40 behind Reaper Racing coming into tonight.

Another great start and opening stint but an unfortunate crash on lap 5 threw him off strategy and a miscalculation on fuel left the car stuck on the starter motor at the Bilstein Bridge costing Plux second place.

Tonight is GTP_Caine, hopefully he'll have a smoother race

So the results are in from the first round of the VLN and we scraped onto the podium. Obviously this is well done on where we wanted to be but we've made some changes and should be back and fighting up and the front in the wet or dry next time out. We managed almost to come out penalty free, just Plux's opening lap contact with Plotnik netting us a 90s penalty which was justified despite there not being much more Plux could have done in the situation.

We were also lucky that memto89 dc'd in race 1 as it has put CCR, one of our closest rivals well down the field in 7th. This means we can still fight for the pole against the very impressive Reaper Racing and Poland 24 Racing.

Next round is on 2nd January 2015!

Wow, well..... what can I say about that...... I think, "better than I could have imagined" about sum's it up.

Heading into Quali, I knew I had pace, but didn't know how quick others were going to be, so wasn't too sure how well it would go. Another very unfortunate DC from @memto89 and CCR on the out lap took some pressure off, but was still a little unsure. I got my head down and made sure I didn't make any major mistakes. I got pole with a lap of 7.56.436 and a gap of just over 5 seconds.

The start was great, got a great launch and covered myself from being attacked into T1, then set about trying to pull a little gap almost instantly. I had a big moment near the end of the 1st lap and was passed on the long final straight by P24 driver @GTPL_Lubek, I tried to return the favor down the start/finish straight, but the straight line speed was too much to succeed, so I tried to bide my time and wait for the right moment. Sure enough, later in the lap I took the lead back and set about my race again.

In the 1st few stints I was trading sector and lap times with new GHH driver @MINT_GTR and the split time never really moved too much and didn't really know how this battle of times and will was going to turn out in the long run, each time one of us was on a new stint, we were setting new lap records. By about half way through the race, the fuel level had come down and the car was feeling better and better, until eventually, on the final short stint I was able to set a (surprising to even me) lap time of 7.52.503.

With @Pluxtheduck on the pit wall carefully monitoring the race timer and strategy, we soon realized that we were going to surpass the previous lap count of 22 laps and start the 23rd lap before the timer reached 0, so on lap 19, we made sure there was more than enough fuel to complete the 23rd lap and went for it.

Great work from the whole team on building an amazing tune and strategy, now handing off to Plux for tomorrows race, so here is wishing him good luck on having as good a race as I did tonight.

Provisional standings after 1 race.

M4R - 23 laps - 3.07.25
GHH - +0.53
RR - +4.38
P24 - +6.03
GORE - +7.46
TOR - 21 laps
INF - Unknown laps, Dc'd
REST - 11 lap

Good job Mike, you were unbeatable tonight. I need to go back to the garage and find a tune that actually work... This just ate tires and made me even slower.. You don't happen to have a 7:52 tune for the sls do you? :P
Great work Mike

Thanks guy's, and no Niko, I'm afraid not, sorry mate, nice to be setting PB's in the race though :D

Going into the race I was a little apprehensive as I was at Adrian's place using his rig and with only three hours of practice on the rig I didn't know exactly how the race would go. However a good start, fighting off ItzRacing's charge into turn one, helped me settle into the rhythm of the 'Ring and from then on it all seemed very easy. As I came out of the pits on lap four, Lucas passed me and we set about analysing where we could get him back without costing us too much time. Knowing his car would understeer but be fast on the straight, I broke early for Bergwerk to give myself space, carried much more apex speed and slingshot passed on the exit and had the inside on the run up towards Kesselchen and could pull away.

In the second half of the race, the focus turned to repeating Mike's feat of completing 23 racing laps in the three hour race. I set about putting in consistent but fast laps through the three lap stints and then tyre preservation on the four lap stints. A small spin at Kesselchen on the final stint gave the car suspension damage but could easily drive the car home without pitting whilst still pulling away at the front, extending the lead to five minutes and one second on the final lap.

We estimate we have over a ten minute lead going into tonight's race where Adrian will be out to bring the round to the close on a high.

Tune in a 18:00GMT for the final race of the second round of the CORE VLN, streamed on the CORE Livestream account
