I'm getting "Entry was refused due to network incompatibility with the room host [735]." I have a strange internet setup and have been lucky to not hit this very often in my weekly online races, but am hitting it now. :ouch:

I'll try rebooting the PS3.

Still not able to join, same error. I'm willing to keep trying if you want to maybe leave the room to have Handlebar become host?

Since we are not friends, trying an Open Lobby.

It is now up.

If that does not work, I will host.

// just switched hosts //

Well, things didn't go exactly as planned. I'm going to do my best to solve some of these issues, but I can't make any promises, unfortunately. We still got some good racing in, and as a proof of concept I think this worked fairly well. Connection problems aside, I think the system we have is working as intended.

As I said in the room, I think I'll just do the same theme next week, so I can concentrate on fixing the flaws rather than having to test a load of new cars.

I'm also going to take a few pictures from tonight. Unfortunately I don't think Gravitron will be in my pictures, so if anyone else has the replay and wants to snap a few shots or, even better, send me the replay, that would be perfect.

Until next week.

Let's hope we can eventually see each other! :D Thanks for guiding us, @Handlebar. 👍

I agree, keep the same theme next week, need more practice when switching cars.

Just a reminder, we'll be racing again in about 9 hours.

Get your Mitsubishi's ready. 👍

Does everyone planning on racing have Excel? I've created a calculator to make it easier to calculate delays without doing mental math. All you have to do is enter your laptimes in the correct box, and it will calculate the delays for you for races of 1 to 5 laps. Simple! Just enter the times for all your cars and you should quickly have all the delays you need. Remember that if you calculate a negative delay, you must let me know, as that means everyone else's delay would have to be increased for the race to work. Alternatively, you can switch to a faster car (or practice a while and get a better laptime).

The only downside is that this calculator doesn't give the same results as calculating by hand. It uses some averages to estimate race times, rather than using data I recorded for each car. However, the result is only about a second off for a five lap race, which is small compared to the difference created by simple driver inconsistency. Feel free to use it if you have Excel. If not, let me know and maybe we can find another way. I'd like to switch to using the calculator exclusively in the future, but it's limited by the fact that you need excel to use it. I tried coming up with something similar in Google Docs, but their method of entering times is counter-intuitive and would probably cause problems.

I'm planning to do 1 Magic Lap some day.... And another thing: Can I use GT6 Magic Lap Calculator to put my cars in it? How to calculate it in Excel?

I would love for you to race with us some time. It's a shame about the time zones. Unfortunately I don't think I can move the time any earlier for now. Maybe some time in the future I'll figure out if an earlier time works better.

You're still certainly welcome to try making your own event. The one thing I'm worried about is the name though. To avoid confusion it might be good to name it something different, as when this happens in real life (however rare) it isn't called Magic Lap.

EDIT:
And another thing: Can I use GT6 Magic Lap Calculator to put my cars in it? How to calculate it in Excel?
I'm not sure what you're asking exactly. To calculate delays for tonights race all you need to do is type in your times in the box marked "ENTER HERE:", with red text. The delays appear below.

If you're wondering how to calculate times for your own series, for your own cars, that's up to you. I've deleloped a complicated process for figuring them out myself, which involves a lot of testing and a lot of excel tables and confusing references. It's not perfect but anything else would require an impossible amount of trial and error in the game itself. Perhaps I'm exaggerating a bit...
Anyway, If you want to make your own series I'm afraid you'll have to come up with your own way. I'd like to keep this stuff to myself for now since I've put so much time into it. If you have requests for themes you'd like me to test and run some time, I'd definitely consider them.

My name can be "Handicap Racing". What do you think? In Magic Laps, you recieve an few seconds handicap to overtake a driver. Another thing: How can I convert the best time lap to delay time of the start?

PS: Don't forget that my time is in GMT +0/Lisbon!

See my edit above, which explains how to use the calculator. Just look for the red text in excel and type it there.

Harsk, come on man. Don't blatantly copy what someone else is doing then ask for help on this thread. Why don't you just do this series instead dude. Pretty counter-intuitive

Do you have any another program apart from excel? Is Because I have an trial version.
Unfortunately not. There are some free spreadsheet programs like OpenOffice which may be able to open the file, but it probably won't work correctly. Didn't you say the times were too late for you to race anyway? If you're not racing tonight you won't need the file.

Yeah it would probably be for the best if there was just one series, but scheduling issues combined with the fact that I may only be doing this for the summer make me feel like an alternate series wouldn't be that bad. If people enjoy it, and if Harsk can actually do the work and get it running on his own (much easier said than done I'm afraid), than I don't see why it would be a problem. More options are better for everyone.

However, @Harsk100, you may be getting in over your head with this. I really can't help you more than I have and, although it's great to have these ideas, if you're not sure how to make it work, it may be best to leave it to those who can. Like I said, if there are some cars you'd really like me to include at some point, I'd be happy to do it. :)

Harsk doesn't even have a working PS3 and he's asking to run a series that is a copy more/less of this one and then asking for help on how to do it
Harsk will run an Handicap series when he gets a new PS3...

I'm not asking...

And remember: That Magic Lap is not only project that I have in my mind. I have more projects coming in the future...

Just know that if you don't make it something really different and interesting, you will have a lot of trouble getting anyone to race with you. Heck, even this series doesn't have the interest I wish it had - another similar series won't attract anyone unless you give them something they don't have already. And that, again, is much easier said than done.

No need to get sassy.

How much longer before this show gets on the road this weekend Dylan? Another 2 hours or so?

I'm thinking to make an finish part different from yours: The slow cars are overtaken by faster cars in the last corner.
Then I'll do it the following things: I get a new PS3, buy all vehicles from an manufacturer, I test them and then I choose the best 16 cars to take.

Yep, about 2 hours from now. I'd better refresh my memory a bit on the track before we get there. I'm hoping for some photo finishes. :)

@Harsk100: And how will you make sure the cars pass each other in the last corner? That's the hardest part to figure out.

I don't think we should talk about your series anymore in this thread. I think you're going to have to work it all out on your own and then post the series in a new thread when it's completely ready. Otherwise it's all just wishful thinking. It seems to me like your first priority should be to get a PS3. ;)

The room is open now if anyone would like to join me. I'm just doing a bit of last minute practicing. :)

As if the OP asking isn't enough, @Harsk100 you need to quit. This is so tacky.

I think I'll join just to see if we can see each other, Dylan. If not I'll take off, but if so, I'll stick around. Unfortunately I've had no time to prepare, but a few of the cars are almost plug-n-play.
