Makeshift Shuffle - No Tuning RacesOpen

Hey that was an awesome Track Day! Sorry was a bit distracted checking out rooms and user tracks and posted no "room up" message. We raced on my little creation pictured above, and it was great! Thanks for coming guys! :D:tup:

EDIT: The Bonus races on amar's hillclimb ramp circuit was the icing on the cake! :dopey:👍

Wouldn't have thought they are that much fun online, but i guess the reason for that is not the track itself but the great bunch of fellow racers enjoying the game!
Thanks for coming folks, photos of the action will follow!

Does anyone have any objections to running what would have been Wednesday's parity rounds tomorrow? I haven't done a lick of work towards organizing the next two series. :embarrassed: And I don't feel like doing so today, either. :sly:

Oh boy finally!!
This on the tablet thing is very strange. :odd: Though I imagine programming-driven decision of some sort. :boggled:

Too stinky about only 1 track per race room.

In gt5 when I'd create tracks, I would be test driving them in between editing.
This kind of makes it have more a gamble in the creating.

OTOH, it might make an interesting thing to do at lunchtime.
Where I've usually got too weak a wifi signal from wherever I'd be at lunch time, to do much internet activity on my tablet. Assuming the app works offline!??
Also in bed as an alternative to bedtime reading or Word Weasel perhaps.

I see a lot of irritation about having to jerry-rig the app for smartphones.
I guess I'm in a small minority of people who have a tablet, and no smartphone.
Mind you, I do have a cell phone!
I finally replaced my 5 year old cell phone with a Kyocera Dura XV. Because it's military standards for shock, dust, temperature extremes, and can be fully submerged in water up to 6 feet for up to 30 minutes. :) I actually had read a review where the reviewer put it in water for a half hour, and the phone registered a call while in the pitcher of water. At that point, I was sold.
One time I dropped it on my desk. That might not sound like a big deal. But I keep my knapsack on the shelf above my desk at work, and the phone slipped out of the side pocket because I forgot to snap the flap & securely position the bag, and the phone dropped out & bounced off the desk and then onto the floor.
The phone was fine, but strangely, when it dropped, seemingly at random, it placed a call to my sister.:odd:

Am I the only one having a heck of a time getting my password to be recognized in all locations to sign in on playstation network?
Like I've had to change my password finally. And now it's working on the tablet. Hopefully it'll work on the ps3. But it's not working to sign into the gran turismo community on the web site on Firefox, but it IS working to sign in on playstation network site on Chrome. And I finally got the new password to work on the tablet.
:boggled:
Definitely inputting the correct password. Not sure what's going on there.

Oh boy finally!!
This on the tablet thing is very strange. :odd: Though I imagine programming-driven decision of some sort. :boggled:

I think the main reason is that they wanted or still want to be able to use the same device for GPS-capturing. Plus, by having made a track-editor that's basically independent from the game itself, they could quite easily use it for GT7 on PS4, so the development time wasn't entirely wasted on a dying game on a dying platform.

As promised some impressions from the Track Day:

...only to crash along with amarynceos in another hidden undulation in a sharp corner... :scared: :dunce:

... but history repeats itself and the calamity is happening to snow and torzilla too! :ouch:  :sly:

It's really a marvelous track, tons of fun to be had!:D:tup:

Good races today! I'll have results later on.

First race was brilliant, second and third I kept mucking it up, and worse, in both races I managed to screw up certain corners more than once. At least in the last race at Apricot, I can blame a poor decision on brake bias that made my car a tad... difficult to manage in certain corners. (Such as the hairpin, alas :embarrassed: )

Yeah, hopefully future updates can address the inability to change tracks with the custom ones. I'm wondering if it has to do with the architecture of hosting these custom tracks, but I don't know enough about how track info etc is dealt with in rooms to speculate with any degree of concreteness.

There's certainly a huge amount of lag when people are loading / entering a custom track, or at least there is for me. On Friday I was getting massive input lag and huge loading times when I was trying to go through my garage or look at my setup at the same time that people were entering the track. One particularly bad stretch of lag directly preceded a disco, too.

I noticed today that the whole process of room creation took longer when using a custom track, too.

Test driving as you make changes to a track is really easy, actually. Data transfers really quickly between the app and the PS3; the longest time between making an edit and getting back on track for me is the time it takes to walk between my office and the racing room. (I have the editor running on an emulator on my Mac.) Getting one's edits to have the desired effect on the track isn't always so easy, but the process is straightforward.

Anyways, at first I was going to start incorporating custom tracks into shuffle mixers, but as long as rooms are limited like they are right now, I'll hold off on that.

How do I make the track creator on my regular mac??
That would be so much easier on a big screen. :ouch:

Yeah that's what I was thinking.

Now the GPS capturing... that would require a smartphone I should think.
That's when I'll have a problem.

Because I really would like to make a track of Giants Despair.

SlipZtrEam has a good quick guide to setting it up on a Mac. It may take a few goes to get the app installed and running, or at least it did for me.

Occasionally the zoom function (opt+click) will get jammed on but other than that I've had no difficulties.

I saw a unique car today, so I took a quick snap. I thought I would post it. I'd never seen this particular model here. I've seen a few other TVRs over the years (Vixens, 280i, 350i).

As I've looked it up, this model actually wasn't fitted with a V8, but a Ford V6 with about 170bhp.

@tarnheld Are you considering a community-based track day? I have a few tracks brewing that I will test tomorrow. I hope everyone who creates tracks here gets a chance for people to race on their creation. If that's what we'll do, haha.

Mmmh, that's a nice TVR! There are Tamoras and older wedges cruising around here too, i think they are made for tinkering... :D

@tarnheld Are you considering a community-based track day?

Yes, this is the plan! :mischievous: But as we have to choose the track before the races and there are so many good tracks, i'm still thinking how to do this...

How about this?
  • Everybody can post a track he wants to race here
  • The track with the most likes wins

I may not be able to join the fun but I created a wonderful replica of Road America. :)

It took me a while to get a satisfying result but now I'm pretty happy with the final track. 👍

This is a very fast circuit, in my opinion it should be made for Classics, Performance Coupes, Track Day Specials etc.

I just want to offer you guys this option.

Note that I'm doing something different with list usage for these two series -- instead of running only three lists per each series, I'm running three lists per each week. It's just how it worked out with prize picks and thematic groupings.

Sunday's Race and Series results Real Soon™.

Hrm, seems neither emulator I tried will install on my mac. I have 10.7.5, maybe that's the problem.
Could be it. I'm running 10.9.something, though I still have Tiger (10.6.x I think) on my older mac.

@tarnheld You're lucky you get to see them. They are extremely rare here. That might be the only S3C in Canada, haha. They were not readily sold here.

I'm glad that we are going to do that. I don't know if a picture really does the track justice though, it doesn't really show all the aspects of the track. But, I understand it's limiting what we could do. The only other way would be just to assign everyone who wants to create tracks a day to run theirs.

@Patrick8308 That's excellent! One of my favourite tracks. I've been there a few times, and was sad to see that there was no elevation change available for the track maker. I'm glad you gave it a try to recreate on the normal Eifel with elevation. Really well done.

Yeah, i guess TVR density is a little higher than the rest of Germany because we got the British Forces stationed here. Still a rare encounter, but it's always great to see and hear one. :D

Yeah, track layouts don't tell the whole story, but we have to trust the creator that the track is nice! Of course more in-game pictures of special features are always welcome!

Ah, so you suggest that we keep a list of track creators for each track day? Sounds good! 👍 So until now you and Patrick stepped up to the track creation table, so how about doing Patrick's Road America this Friday and your creation next Friday? :) Sounds like a plan?

That would probably increase it, yes, haha. I've never seen a newer model than the early 90s though. I'd like to! Guess I'll just have to import one myself...someday.

That's true, we can flourish our bid with pictures and description.

Although that's an idea I had, you don't have to follow it, haha. Hopefully other people will choose to add theirs as well. I'd like to give everyone who wants to do it a chance. I have a promising track I think, I'll tinker with it and smooth it out a bit. It had an unfortunate jump.

Gahhhh, how unfortunate. I've had that happen before as well, so annoying.

Today was just one of those days I guess. Good racing when we weren't banging our heads against interweb issues. Although I was a bit of a potato today.

Laguna Seca will be run on next Wednesday as a prelude race to the regular six.

Thanks again for your patience and toughing it out folks! That was one of the more annoying network episodes. :gtpflag:

I apreciate that you like this track. :) I have put some effort in to achieve the best result possible. Of course it's impossible to create a 100 % replica. But I think it's all good if some parts are similar and the divergent track parts have character aswell.

Ah, so you suggest that we keep a list of track creators for each track day? Sounds good! 👍 So until now you and Patrick stepped up to the track creation table, so how about doing Patrick's Road America this Friday and your creation next Friday? :) Sounds like a plan?

I'm really happy that at least my track creation might be present on Track Days. ;) I hope you guys enjoy it and have fun with each other racing Road America.

I have a promising track I think, I'll tinker with it and smooth it out a bit. It had an unfortunate jump.

Those jumps and ripples are really tricky sometimes. This Thread was really helpful. 👍 These guys proved it's all about the anchor points. And I can confirm that. Even some small sliding of an anchor point can create a different terrain result. There's some try and error strategy needed as you often can't tell what the result will be when observing the map in the TPE.

This strategy helped me to finish my next track Portimao (Autodromo Internacional do Algarve). I'm really proud of the replica downhill braking zone to T1, it's very similar to the famous original. This track is a really cool, has challenging fast and slow turns, downhill braking an so on. I love it. So if anyone is interested, check it out. :D

@Patrick8308 Yes, of course it's impossible to create an identical copy, but I appreciate that you tried to give it some of its original character.

I did actually know that the anchor points were key to the bumps and such. I usually add more anchor points hoping for some elevation changes usually. However that thread is much more detailed, I will definitely check it out. As well as your recreation of Portimao. Thanks!

FWIW, I've noticed that it's more prone to crinkle bumps when you have a wide track set. :(
I like wide tracks, of course, so I seem to run into it a lot. Particularly when 2 anchors are close to each other on an elevation.

My problem is that I can make a track that's fantastic on the way up the hill... THen the track just falls apart on the downhill with awkward crinkles, blind turns with drop offs. :(

append:
But my big complaint is... there seems to be no way to adjust width within a track. :grumpy:
And I love a good bottleneck.
