Makeshift Shuffle - No Tuning RacesOpen

Nice to almost tie for the podium even though I missed two of that last one (*shakes fist at power company*), and to win overall. :embarrassed: @KingKlingeling Thanks very much...you're always a very worthy opponent. And to know you sacrifice your sleep to do it, well. Frankly that makes me think that you deserve it much more than I.

@daddyo845 Well done as well, quite impressive really. And King gets 3 hours, not 5. :scared: Which frankly makes his sleep more deserved today than even I thought!

Well I guess I was including his 2 hr prerace nap

Congrats @LongbowX, you absolutely crushed it. I also kind of find it weird when there are a few people so close in the points standings and then there's just this massive gap in points

...True. I missed the nap part the first time I read the message. Oops. :embarrassed: Still, he's completely insane either way.

Thanks, you're most kind. Just luck of the draw. :sly:

Great job on the Saturday series Longbow! wish I could have been there the last time to challenge you, but it was a we'll deserved win. :)

And kling, you are crazy! I become a zombie if I sleep less than 7 hours :P probably was good for you to get a bit of sleep, still missed you though.

Yes I completely agree amar. Countless times I've seen longbow in a PAO sneak inside a large group of people unsuspectingly when the group slows down. It's like nobody sees it coming. He's in and then he's out in front of the group and everyone's like where did longbow go. Then they just realize that he's in front of them in the camping car.

Well, I don't know about that. The PAO is not so bad...it's light. You have to keep the momentum up and be consistent. Even still, I think the best finishes I've had were 5th or 6th (granted, in a large field). And I consider anything more than 1/2 way up a perfect race. :P

Maybe it's the green. Camouflage.

He's real stealthy that PAO-wielding Canadian.. Even if you start way ahead with a faster car eventually you'll see that dark green car come sneaking from behind. I always feel the pressure when I see that, cause I know he so rarely makes mistakes and a single slip up from me and he'll go through. :nervous:

A lot of respect to you long-johns. 👍

 i get this - he's been doing it for years in shuffle rooms and spec races. It's definitely consitency nearly as much as raw speed - I can sometimes nearly match the odd sector but he just lays it down lap after lap. I remember some distant spec race at monza where I was in a group of 3 at the front, miles - miles - ahead of Longbow all on his own, and a couple of laps later boom there he is in my rear view mirror :boggled:. I thought "what the.. he couldn't even draft anyone to catch up!!" It's witchcraft, that's what it is

Anyway, well done Longbow! And apologies again for the incident at willow yesterday - I ran wide and before I could stop trying to turn in it just sort of spat me back onto the track and into your path. I didn't expect that!

@nomos gamma @Phouchg You guys are most flattering. :embarrassed: I have much respect for you (two and others) as well. I'm sure you know that.

It's not really a secret that being consistent gets results! Not making those mistakes I think to me, is even more important than pushing for that last tenth.

And it's much easier to pass people when you're coming from a longer distance behind. Packs slow you down, and often it's easier to come at someone from a distance. You can plan and see how its developing.

No worries nomos, I know it wasn't intentional.

When I get the PAO, I always think to myself, man, how does longbow do it. There obviously is a way to be successful in the PAO but I haven't figured it out yet. When I'm in the PAO, I always see you guys pull away from and I'm like, get back here guys. Races get pretty lonely for me in the PAO.

The PAO is just adorable looking too. There was one for sale around here a little bit ago I remember seeing. Ah, here it is. It has quite a nice interior too, especially considering it's almost 25 years old! Modern, mininalist.

The way to be successful is to not lose speed. It already isn't going that fast, so you don't need to slow down as much as you would in other cars. Then just not making mistakes and keep plodding along. People make mistakes, get into traffic and you can close in and pounce! :mischievous:

I think it's the photography processing those people use. I just looked at some other car pictures they have, and some of it looks like someone's been applying some HDR Toning pretty obviously in some of them.
HDR Toning has been a big fad in photography of course. And IMHO, it makes the subjects in pictures look a little fake.

Those pictures look unedited.

In the set of PAO pictures, I thought maybe it was the daylight they had, and the settings of the camera. But I saw some other pictures on their web site that totally looked overcast with some post-production HDR Toning. I then suspect they might be using a little subtle effect of that in lots of their pictures if the same person is working on all the pictures on their web site.

I'm sure they do edit them, I mean...most people do now. Some of that effect you see in those (of the Figaro, but also of the Pao) is the reflection of the light off the light concrete giving it more of a HDR effect. I'm not a fan of HDR toning, and it does make things look fake, I agree. I like my own work just fine the way it is.

I thought about that and the sun with all that brown concrete... could've definitely added to the odd quality of the lighting. I thought the PAO in the pictures looked good though. But yeah, a bit like a model.
As for your own work... :odd: Some of those ARE models, are they not?! :boggled:

Comfort Soft Tires

(PP after oil change) (top speed) (price)

* hits limiter at top speed

New List...
Obviously I need to fill in the PP (after oil change).
And I've not had the top speeds tested yet.
If anyone's willing to fill in that information, thank you!
(The top speed I note as the top speed on SSRX - and if hits the limiter or gets close.)

I also forgot to mark down which of these come with comfort soft tires and which don't.
