Dukey, I'll be happy to be the first to say "Congrats! Welcome to GT Planet!"

Yeah, that's the first time I was first on welcoming somebody!

But there's no doubt that it's quite a bit different for Auto vs. Manual. I just don't bother to switch because I have my TV turned down for music, and my vision is VERY selective on what I see(that's after I put on my contacts or glasses, otherwise I can't see jack when it's further than 4 feet, and I can only read things within about a 2ft radius), so I don't notice the RPM needle or the red light that blinks.

i always use manual and i always will but ive heard that theres a trick with the auto so that you can use it just like a manual!
you hold down R1 or R2 and it will hold the gear untill you let go, like a kick down!

I just got GT3 and I have been trying to get used to the manual. I can already tell it helps me in the corners which is really good for me seeing as I am a begginer

Uhhh, Gil? I'm so dissapointed in you. :shakehead

Hey Mr. Holland, we should get "IXLR8" to put his money where his mouth is. What do you think?

oh and I started on manual and will finish on manual not because it is "better" or "faster" but because I enjoy it more :D

peace out :P

Well, I can shift based on the sound, but I've trained myself to be able to see the tach without having to move my eyes away from the track... using your entire scope of vision is a wonderful thing. ;)

did you know there is a shift light in GT3??

I always use manual. The only exception is on rallies and that's because I need to concentrate on the track. If I do the same rally about 6 times, I can normally memorize the turns and then I can use manual.

OA

You all have automatics confused. In the NHRA, they use atomatics because the human body is not fast enough to clutch and shift at the same time ( this applies to Pro Stock, Funny Car, and Top Fuel, and some Sportsman classes) Stop comparing GT3 to reality. :)

er.... ok

personal experience #1:
i started out using Auto n thought i was OWNING everyone.. lol
then.. i checked sites for pplz lap times.. i was blown away...
so i decided 2 start new game..... *yes the last one was around 94 ish*
now i can personally say, Manual is MUCH better than Auto
reasons:
1. U have more control over ur car, when a car shifts, the cars balance is destroyed, thus, making it harder 2 turn
however, if u use manual, u dun hafta shift, so you can come outta the corner, and THEN shift
i feel its easier this way cuz .. its easier to turnnn

I have to say manual cus you have so much more control over your speed and you also get more out of your gears because automatic will always shift before the top of the gear.

First...everyone say hello to the new guy in the forum....

2nd....Uh...duh...Manual! For many reasons stated that i need not repeat, AND...the way I see it, once one has mastered the stick, then One is truly a racing competitor, because, per my observations, taking and mastering the hardest route is the key to superiority....key example....What is considered the true racing car...Rear wheel drive...why?? 'Cause it's the most difficult to control...same goes for the means of shifting gears.

"Don't bother the lunatic behind the wheel!! 😈

ACCTTTUUAAAALLLY...On the alcohol/methane burning engines like the top fuel and funny cars...There's so much power going to the ground that an automatic transmission isn't aplicable either...Their runs are the equivalent of slipping the clutch throughout the entire time of 4-5seconds.

its under 200 posts ;)

and as for the dragster / top fuel stuff.. i think they just run it al in high gear.. the gears can't shift fast nuff... iono.. swat i think...

I've been playing with auto since day one and completed the license test the last race in the s test was easy I love that gt1 car the shifter sounds awesome but i'll say manual does have more control but I gotta go with auto it's challeging that way
but I go with manual in real life anyday

I just can't even use auto anymore if I go back to it. I just feel that I don't have a clue really at what the automatic box is goin to do next for mid corners *up shift or down shift  *.
I think I use manual for every racing game I've ever played really (apart from GP2)

I use both, depending on the length of the race. As for beating ANY Auto Driver by 5 seconds a lap. With drivers of equal skill you might win by 2, maybe 3 seconds if you ar having a blue chip day. And the guy you're racing is not.

I'd really like to see you beat Talentless, Mr P, or JSSchumacher under the conditions you propose.
i use both too. however auto box in gt3 is superior to anything in real life and in any other game so i prefer it to manual.
p.s. holding down r2 or l2 keeps you in gear in an auto box so when u are going round a corner and you want to remain in gear just hold down one of those and the computer wont sift until you let go.

I was an automatic driver for almost two years and once the switch was made to manual, it just hasnt been the same.

Yep, same story here. Been using Automatic since the game came out. Automatic throughout GT1 and GT2 also. But now that I switched, Im never going back. Manual gives the driver so much more control than Automatic. If you are new to the game, then start off on Automatic, but try switching to Manual as soon as possible. Thats when an easy game becomes even easier hehe.

If I'm racing with a friend on two-player battle, I go for automatic. I can never really tell where the RPMs are at with that weird little scale, and I miss the shift light more than I would like. Me and my friends are usually too busy yelling obscenities at each other to listen to the sounds of the engine.

Most of the time I choose automatic on the single player game too. I've noticed over-reving some engines isn't as fast. Plus I'm too stupid to negotiate turns and shift at the same time. But if a friend turns it to manual, I'm usually too lazy to switch it back, so I end up using that for a while.

In real life, manual. More fun than driving an automatic.

To your statment about beating auto drivers upto 5 seconds on a track? Go to the Time Trial comparioson thread and see if you can beat some of the guys driving auto, there is a few really good auto drivers that im pretty sure you wont beat at any more than a few hunredths of a second if you are really as good as you say.
