You revived a thread that had been dead for two months simply to point out that there was no further need to discuss it?

Was it two months? I didn't realise, seems like it was less than a month ago we were discussing this. Forgot to check.

If he created a new one, you would have had a whinge about it.

He brought new facts to the existing topic, not merely posted a half assed opinion or summation.

Thank you...

I really didn't see what I did wrong.

And those facts achieved nothing but pointing out that this thread was no logner necessary, even though it had already been dormant for two months. By not posting, it is unlikely that this thread would have been revived.

Yes, I believe the talks between Red Bull and Mark Webber were about closing this particular thread.

Threads don't need to be closed because the story has ended or is no longer relevant. They just fade away naturally.

And a possible "Mark Webber move to Ferrari" clearly deserved its own thread anyway. Again, I'm not too fond of "catch all" threads and Ferrari's 2013 lineup and speculation is, by itself, thread-worthy, IMO.

But an official announcement on such a topic is thread worthy and since we already had a thread on it... clearly this was the place for it.

Why must you go around and "mini-mod" for?

Leave the poor chap alone.

First time (I think) that this is publicly recognized:

Q. - Were you tempted to think about moving elsewhere?
MW - There were discussions with Ferrari, but my decision was to stay here.

Source of this Q&A? Red Bull, according to ESPNF1

Well considering the fact that the announcement had already been covered here, it wasn't really necessary.

Seems like Mark and the people he has negotiate his contracts are pretty smart.

Strike while the market's hot (2 wins in 3 races) and create leverage (Ferrari).

With Massa seeming to find his form again, it will be interesting to see if this rumor mill regarding his seat continues.

It's sort of like last week, when one member posted about the De Villota crash in the GP thread and another made a thread about it. Either could technically work, but in that case, a dedicated thread for the crash made a lot more sense, particularly if you consider the driver in question was never slated to drive in that GP.

In this case, we have a broad, general thread posted in by one member, and a more specific one created by another. I suspect the member who posted thw information in the general thread is as concerned with directing the posts to the thread he posted it in as he is with what he perceives to be a bump.

Surely posts about the pointlessness of my post are also unnecessary?

Correct. And your original post was very specific to the topic, not at all pointless. More quite the opposite, direct and to the point.

Oh for crying out loud... You bumped an old thread to announce something that had already been covered.

EDK

Well as a matter of fact, I created that thread. I did it last year as the driver signing rumors started spilling into every other F1 related thread. I then made the new one this year at the suggestion of Daan. Since joining GTP in 2009, I have made only a handful of threads. It's not some ego trip, it just makes everything easy to follow.

^ Moderator disagrees.

Look, I'm really not going to get involved in a petty little arguement with you or someone else about where something goes. I was merely pointing out that you were late to the party regarding the Webber announcement. Grow some thick skin.

Right, so let's stop talking about who was right, and whether or not anything should have been posted in this thread. The time for the decision on whether this thread should exist was a long time ago, when it was created. It would be pointless and confusing to merge it with the general thread at this point, so just let it go.

This is like making a GP thread on a Monday, just turns into a stupid argument which takes threads off-topic.;)

Back on track. Ferrari's Horse Whisperer (rumoured to be a column written by di Montezemolo himself) take on Webber staying put and the speculation around Massa's seat.

No word about Webber's publicly stating that Ferrari had talks with him :sly:

The Horse Whisperer - Only Zorro is missing
The silly season, that point in the year when rumours start flying about who’s going where among the F1 drivers and indeed in other sports too, is currently approaching its peak. It’s to be expected that it is reaching great heights, which could have something to do with the torrid heat hitting Italy this week, or the incessant rain that’s still drenching the UK, as names start being bandied about, when it comes to who could be sitting alongside Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari garage in 2013.

In Maranello, no one is in a hurry to make any decisions and that’s for sure. Yesterday, one absolute certainty of the past few months was washed away, as we now know Webber is staying put. Now the most vociferous and qualified rumourmongers are taking it for granted that Felipe will be confirmed, these generally being the same voices that, not only had him down as being out of the running for 2013, but would have had us believe he would not even see out the season. Now coming into bloom are a whole list of possible and potential replacements, with a list of names from A to Z, something Ferrari is well used to. In truth, one letter, the “Z,” seems yet to be uncovered, or quite possibly it’s Zorro…unmasked.
