Maserati Gran Turismo

This could be the first Peninfarina design that doesn't look like total ass in nearly a decade.

 Personally, I'm still not feeling that one. A lot of people seem to love it, but I think it looks a bit forced. I kind of like the Birdcage better:

cleaner, more modern, yet still a classic in its own right. If Pinin hadn't built that before the P4/5 off what is basically the same chassis, I might have held it in higher regard.

Regarding this new Maser, I love what I'm seeing so far. The detailing and the fluid, organic shape are distinctly Maserati without being "retro" or "out there".

Mondeo tails? Just goes to show you how "out there" Ford's european designers are... I'm seeing "Mondeo tails" on absolutely everything nowadays. Given the travesty that "Altezzas" wrought upon the world, I think "Mondeos" are a relatively minor crime, or not a crime at all, considering they actually look good.

Lookin good. I just have to complain about that snout. The front would look much better if it was flat and didn't have that grille protruding. The inerior looks good. Simplicity helps make it very clean. I'm lovin the red leather. The rear is fantastic, but maybe could stand to be a little taller.

And how is that a car styled within the last decade?[/IMG]

Are you kidding? It was styled like a year ago. There's like a 2,500 page thread over at F-chat with people fawning over it. Not that I dislike it. I know it's based on old cars, but trust me - nothing ever looked like that.

Can I ask that everyone here keep this thread on topic.

I am not even remotely impressed with the behaviour of a number of members who simply should know better.

Taking the thread off topic is one thing, but to do so deliberately to try and wind up a member is totally unacceptable and M5Power you know this is the case.

I don't want to lock this thread, so please keep things on track from now on.

Thanks

Thanks Scaff for sorting this out.

Does anyone else look at the front end and think S2000?

Only around the fog lamp and taking in the bottom line of the headlight, the rest of the headlights and the grille don't.

The front would look much better if it was flat and didn't have that grille protruding.
I strongly dissagree there, I think that looks great on this car, and it is also a major styling cue from some classic Maseratis.

The only thing I see S2000-related is the headlights.

I like it though. I wouldn't be surprised if it went convertible either, so it looks like Alfa Romeo kept to their word they would do something new with Maserati.

It looks like it's tryin to make out with the air in front of it or suck it up.

I saw the new Lexus IS there.

That would be awesome.

I didn't notice it earlier, but I like the intergration of the Maserati crown into the wheel design. Nice touch.

Damn, I made it all the way to the end of the page thinking I was the only one who picked that up ;). I really like it though, it's a neat touch and I hope it's kept to production.

As for the front end, to me I get a lot of JGTC/SuperGT vibes from it, specifically the Z's that run around in that series. The back feels a bit like an Aston/Merc/Fisker mix, but it looks good as well. Really, the whole thing works, and it finally feels like a Maser sports car with real character. I too am happy with their terrible depreciation and only hope this one continues the trend, because I'd love to pick one up on the cheap when I'm a bit older ;).

To me, it looks exactly like the S2000. The only difference is they reamed out the front dam.

I personally see more resemblance between the RX-8 and the S2000 than anything else. But I can see why people think the S2000's front end looks similar to the Maserati. It's basically the S2000 but all the angles have been increased and emphasised.

Or maybe they're just completely different. I'm struggling to spot a single angle that is the same between the S2000 and the Gran Turismo.

What does that have to do with this thread Poverty?

On this topic, the Maserati and the S2000 don't share any angles or proportions, from the grill having flat top and bottom sides on the S2000 to being curved on the Gran turismo, to the S2000 having a mooth curver out and around the front from the wheel arches, and the Gran Turismo having almost an instant change in angle leading to a curve out upto the protruding grille. I can seew similarities in the sence that there are similarities between the S2000 and the MX5 and most sportscars in that mould, but thats it. There's nothing specific, no angle or curve that I can look out that matches the S2000.

What does that have to do with this thread Poverty?

It has no relevance what so ever, Poverty keep it on topic please. I can quite clearly see the direction you want to take this in and its not going to happen. Discussions on the similarity of the Maserati and the Honda do not involve the A5 and/or 3 series.

Exactly, I agree with M5 power, people are just being silly about this whole copying crap.

The new C-class hasnt copied a lexus, it looks like a baby s-class.

The BMW 3 series doesnt look like its copied japanese either. Its just a bangliezed style revolution of the E46 coupe.

The A5 hasnt copied BMW, its just a evolution of the Audi Coupe, which was a evolution of the UrQuattro.

Think its time for people to stop over analysing.

But without debate, forums like this would become nothing more than a news service.
