Maserati Gran Turismo

Or instead people could stop being anal, and looking for difficult solutions, which have infact got simple answers.

Or you could not resort to tell people what opinion to have!

Not everything has a simply answer, like it or not some things are more complex, anyway I've created a thread which will allow discussions like this to take place without taking general automotive threads off topic.

So head over and let us know exactly why you appear to think that design is purely evolutionary and not influenced by others.

You will find my reply to this..

Exactly, I agree with M5 power, people are just being silly about this whole copying crap.

The new C-class hasnt copied a lexus, it looks like a baby s-class.

The BMW 3 series doesnt look like its copied japanese either. Its just a bangliezed style revolution of the E46 coupe.

The A5 hasnt copied BMW, its just a evolution of the Audi Coupe, which was a evolution of the UrQuattro.

Think its time for people to stop over analysing.

...in that thread.

You see no resemblance here?

Sorry, but I think Maserati is guilty only of copying itself.

I see no MC12 in the GT, and why are you even bringing up the Quattroporte. It was already reported that Alfa Romeo was helping Maserati develop a new car that would become essentially, a coupe version of the Quattroporte.

I like it though. I wouldn't be surprised if it went convertible either, so it looks like Alfa Romeo kept to their word they would do something new with Maserati.

I keep going back & forth over this thing. But I figured it out: when you look at the car all at once - not just as a whole, but at a distance - it looks good. It's only when you observe the sections of the car individually that it falls apart. It's like Sandra Bullock: a random association of facial features only works from more than 10 feet away, you just don't want to spend much time up close.

What I meant about the E-Type Lightweight is not the direct resemblance (which there is, if you suffer from myopia), but the similar design evolution.

The Lightweight version of the E-Type sort of brought the front end forward and more pinched, sort of puckering forward. Not exactly an improvement, in my opinion (in either case).

I always treated car design as a whole. I judge a car's styling based on the entire model, not just individual parts. Everything has to work together and all compliment everything else. There has to be design sense and flow, things have to all contribute to one thing, as one single design. I can think of dozens of cars that just don't follow this, everything is all just accessorizing one main design template.

Can I ask that everyone here keep this thread on topic.

I am not even remotely impressed with the behaviour of a number of members who simply should know better.
Were you referring to the discussion between me and Doug, or the deleted bits of Doug's post?

It was inspired from an old design, but that was designed in a wind tunnel in 2005.

Having seen on in person I can say they're just as beautiful in the metal.

Not sure if I like those headlamps. They seem... stretched, or something.

Great catch, though!

I can't really say what I think about the car. I think it looks a bit goofy and there are many other cars I would take over it for the $114,000 it costs, but it's quite different from anything I see around here on a daily bases. I mean living in Detroit seeing a Viper or a Vette Z06 is hardly something exciting because they look like they are in the correct place, but the GranTurismo just sort of stood out...which is why I followed it for quite a while until I was able to get some photos of it.

It's one of the best looking cars about imo, the fact it's an auto only puts me off, not that I'm in the market for one, but looks wise it's fantastic.

I cant believe someone thinks they look similar to that hideous Ford of all things!!! These cars are gorgeous!
Regarding pricing, here in NZ atleast there starting price is slightly less than that of a Quattroporte Sport GT. And being a true 'Gran Turismo', I can say that the back seats can ACTUALLY be used, even by me (bit over 6foot), they arent a 2+2 just for the sake of it, you can actually fit 4 people in these cars comfortably! Compared to the Sport GT they are firmer in the suspension, and you can feel abit extra power. The exhaust system is different to the Quattroporte as well, because when you come off the accelerator in the Gran Turismo, you get that amazing 'puffing' / 'mellow backfiring' noise which you definitely dont get in a Quattroporte (with standard exhaust), which Ferraris and Maserati's often do. Regarding the gearbox, once you've driven with paddles, you will not want manual, trust me! Cruising round town in full auto is great, as soon as you want to give it a hit, put it in sport mode, slide the gearstick to the left, and have instantaneous gearshifts without taking your hands off the steering wheel, trust me its where its at!!

Traction Control = OFF
Sport Mode = ON :D

I want the gran turismoin gt5!!!! it is one of the sexiest cars ever made
IMO

Thread necrophilia is generally frowned upon, especially when the comment could easily go to one of the GT5 wishlist pages as opposed to the auto news section.

But it is a beautiful car.

Surprised it hasn't gone through a major redesign. Harry Metcalfe pointed out in a video earlier this year that he thought Maserati would be soon retiring it because it's a decade old and hasn't done much to stand out.

Eww. What's with luxury companies designing wheels that look like cheap Pep Boys specials?
Because they look like the cheap wheels some customers replace them with. #Facts-boggles my mind when I see people do that to their cars.

That poor car needs some rear wheel spacers, stat.

I thought the Alfieri was supposed to replace this by now? Don't get me wrong, I've always liked the look of the GT (and loved the sound), but this latest facelift does it no favours.
