Massive explosions in Tianjin, China

Yep, always sad. 150000 die a day on average. I guess we all have to make mistakes and die as well.
And yet you're sad about a billion dollar "loss" which doesn't really exist, because it's a billion dollars of economic activity which results in no actual loss (unless some of the assets were uninsured).

Say what now?

This is the first vid that genuinely scared me. The way it cuts out right as the shockwave hits is like an instant death and you only see the explosion for a split second. Hardly enough time to react to even comprehnd it before you die.

Do you think this could lead or trigger another recession perhaps?

ATTENTION BREAKING NEWS: Sodium Cyanide is bad for fish!

Scientists are baffled: After Sodium Cyanide and possibly other chemicals were spilled in the Tianjin explosions,
thousands of dead fish appear at the shore, near the blast site. People speculate that the Sodium Cyanide isn't as healthy for the fish as first thought.

What, a billion dollar's worth of economic activity in cleaning up, rebuilding and replacing the damaged and destroyed goods?

Recessions aren't caused by increased economic activity.

I agree. It is very unlikely that person survived.

Also some people died.
Word for word what I thought when reading that post.
I held back from saying so because I wondered if the financial side of it would include a measure of tragedy for people who may have lost their homes. I don't know exactly whose property & livelihoods may have been hit.

Can't tell if srs.

In a strikingly similar event to the one 2 years ago there has been another large explosion at another Chinese port city, this time in Ningbo. Buildings have collapsed and the blast has shattered windows up to 1km away. The extent of the damage and casualties is unclear at the moment as it only happened a few hours ago.

Nice of this incident to light up the night sky long enough for tons of people to train cameras on it so that we could really feel the impact. Without the explosion videos, even the crater pics would be harder to personalize, and this news story doesn't get felt the same way.

Just saying, if you're going to have a disaster, give a little warning so that the entire world can be that much more impressed.
