The Maybach 57 (chassis no. W240) and 62 (chassis no. V240) were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since the brand's revival by DaimlerChrysler AG (now Daimler AG). They are derived from the Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept car was based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan, as are the eventual production models. The Luxury Brand Status Index 2008 voted the Maybach 1st place, ahead of Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The models ceased production in 2013, due to continued financial losses for the marque, and sales at one fifth the level of the profitable Rolls-Royce models.

The Maybach 57 S has been resurrected by Austria coachbuilder DC Dream Cars. Daimler brought back the "Maybach" moniker last year by launching the Mercedes-Maybach division, but those who are fans of the old Maybach 57 can now have it once again in a sleek coupe configuration called 57 S Coupe (or 57S Coupe).

Based on the Maybach 57S sedan, Xenatec has produced 8 of the 100 units planned according to reports. Pricing started at €675,000 ($928,732) and had the blessing of Maybach as they honored the model's original warranty.

In converting the sedan to a coupe, Xenatec pushed the B-pillar back 508mm (20 inches) and increased the curvature of the roof by installing more rakish A- and C-pillars (sail panel into quarter panel). In doing so, the doors, side sills, front fender and rear quarter panels were re-fabricated. The result is a sleeker and sportier vehicle. At the same time, the interior has been upgraded even beyond Maybach's high standard, but without sacrificing the quiet, conservative nature of the vehicle.

Austrian coachbuilder "DC Dream Cars" has picked up from where German firm Xenatec left after becoming insolvent and now offers its own version of the Maybach 57 S Coupe.

The car is powered by a V12 6.0-liter engine which delivers 630 HP (471 kW) in the standard configuration, but the Austrian coachbuilder is willing to squeeze more power at an additional cost.

.....?? Soooo, take a already-superb S class coupe, then add dash of ugly, and you get this, a car that looks 8 years old? I don't get it....
