Mercedes Merges with Maybach to Rival Rolls-Royce | 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600

So basically the consensus is that the Maybach is gone and has been replaced by a roomier S-Class. That's a shame. Well, guess I'm still be getting my hyper luxury at Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

I never really cared about Maybach to be honest. But seeing this machine, I think this Benz looks sweet. Maybach just isn't as appealing to me. I wouldn't want a super-high end Mercedes-Benz, but I do like this car.

The original Maybach revival might have worked had the two cars not have been obviously chintzy stretched versions of the S-Class with minor styling differences.

Russians, so much monies

I agree with most of what they said but you cannot really compare a trim level to a marque, of course the new one doesn't feel as good or as special because it's an S-Class. Doesn't mean that its bad because the new one looks badass inside and out but it's certainly no Phantom rival, maybe more a Ghost rival.

The Maybach had an image problem more than anything else, it was a very good car but suffered from the lack of heritage and a dedicated platform. Mercedes could have done it right but they didn't and it's a real shame. A Maybach 62 is still a sight to be seen even today.

This doesn't really feel like a change... Daimler have had the Maybach brand for some years, all they're doing is sticking "Mercedes" on the front as it's got more prestige - they'll just be a distinct sub-class of the S class. That parallels Mercedes-Maybach (luxury) with Mercedes-AMG (sportivo) in their line-up. The rusty builder's vans will remain plain ol' Mercedes :D

I see what you mean but I think Mercedes have the best of both worlds now. Mercedes AMG is a recognised sports brand, Mercedes Maybach will become a recognised luxury brand. The company probably have all kinds of sales "ins" to the prestige customer base already, doing it this way makes it easier for them to get the sales, I think.

Mercedes AMG wasn't already, atleast partially, a luxury brand?

Absolutely, but the Mercedes AMG marketing is centered around performance. You could say the same about Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley GT, they're all luxury cars by default in one way or another (or most of their models are) but the emphasis is on performance.

By realigning Maybach in the Mercedes/Daimler structure they can make the brand about uber-luxury instead of luxury :D

That's not to say that all Mercedes saloons are luxury cars though, I had a C-class for a while and it was bloody horrible inside :)

As long as they make it clear as to what's so much better about the Maybach level as opposed to the highest normal level then yes they could 'do an AMG' and carve out a luxury brand which stands on its own merit. I wonder how this would be done with one model though, I guess we might see Maybach based on a GLE, M or CLS.

I'm thinking there is some Merc Vision GT in there...

As for the Maybach, Tyga bought Kylie Jenner one... :yuck: Kanye also bought one.

Customers that any respectable marque would only dream of

Here's the front.

Hm. That front gives me both a feeling of "i like it" and "i dislike it", intresting.
It does give me a slight Mercedes VGT vibe, though.

Teaser video with gullwings. Name is Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6

Is it me or does it look slightly like it was rendered in a video game?

Maserati F Type chopped and extended...

No seriously what in the world is this? Was this designed during "Bring Your Kid To Work Day"?

"Dad I want red wheels"

"Not now son we're-"

"Red. Wheels."

"Do it."

-------------------------

"I want a boat with a closed roof"

"Son we're-"

"Boat"

"You heard him..."

That, or the kid somehow scrapped their work and they were left with his drawing on the day of the design pitch.

Slightly simplified take on Mercedes's design language... though why bother with the Maybach name? I can only imagine this will be followed up by a much less dramatic looking Mercedes S-Class Coupe with optional Maybach package.

Perhaps a successor to the Exelero?
