I have the same problem pretty much.

Age : 16
Weight : 160
Height : 6'1''

Thing is, I weigh a bunch but I have no fat on my body. I pretty much look skinny. I have small arms. When I flex, I'm as cut as the buffest looking guy. My arms get huge. Then I stop, and my arms return to their normal skinny size. It's odd. I need to gain weight so I don't look so skinny. Do I have a distorted body image about myself? Heh. I work out at least 3 days a week by the way.

You guys are fussing because you're skinny! Crazy!

I'm not overly fat but i have enoug flab to grab if i wanted to. I'm only 14 and i weigh about 140 (don't know how tall i am). When i sit down is when the gut really shows up but when i stand up and suck in a little it looks pretty good. God, I wish i was skinny or skinnyer (is it skinnyer or skinnier?? Hmmm. whatever)

Talentless, but not for how skinny I look. Also, the majority of health status' are based on grown men. I'm 16, I have lots of growing to do. People guess my weight all the time to be around 130. It's always 30lbs or more off. I don't know what to think.

Just went to that site. Here is what I found.

According to your height of 6' 1" your ideal healthy weight is 184 pounds. This is based on the middle point of the recommended body mass index score of 22.5 for your height. Your recommended weight range is between 151 and 189 pounds.

This calculation is for adults ages 18 and up. Please consult your doctor before attempting to make any significant change in your weight.

I'm 16. I still have to finish filling out and other things. I'm healthy at least.

I'm not sure that 6 is really far off. But you may be right. Still, I think 160 is probably low. As far as your friends, unless they are good at that, like they are professional profilers, Id think nothing of their guesses. Maybe one is psychic?

Two months? You've only just begun, my friend. You won't put on much weight for a while. In the meantime, watch your diet closely. You want plenty of protein and carbs, and very little sugar. Don't forget to rest enough, either. You won't make any progress by running yourself too hard.

According to your measurements; weight of 82 pounds and height of 5' 2" your lean body weight is estimated to be 74.44 pounds. Since the ideal body fat percentage for men is 15%. Your ideal lean body weight is 102.22 pounds. Remember these are guidelines; your physician should help you determine the ideal weight and body fat for you.

Yeah, im 13 and i weigh around 80-85 pounds, alot of people say

im really skinny and im also trying to put on some muscle.

Any kind of muscle would be fine. Anyway i can help myself to
get that extra muscle.?
:)

dunno for sure. i'm just lifting a 50 lb barbell 30 reps an exercise. i do about 10 or more exercises. my diet is junk.

You can life a 50lb barbell 30 consexutive times with ease?

No. Just the total. I also have an 80 pound weight that I lift 10 times. Very difficult. I'm staying with the 50 lb for a while.

I just did a test. I did that exercise where you hold it above your head and lower it to the top of your head. I can do about 20 with not much problem. Maybe 30 if I was feeling 100%. If you mean arm curls, than much less. Probably less for bench presses. These are not slow proper lifts. I just went up and down briskly. But they were not clean and jerks.

I went to your site, Talentless, and here's what it said for me when I plugged in my info:

Results:
DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! Based on your body weight of 170, your consumption of 3 half glasses of wine, and your sex, your blood alcohol concentration is estimated to be 0.05.

Hmm, .05, and it still tells me not to drive.... maybe that's because I'm 15 yet...

P.S. It also says that my ideal weight is 178, I guess I better gain some 8-10lbs then sometime....(I'm 5'11 3/4", so I put my height as 6'0")

That alcohol test is pretty cool :

------------------------------------------------

Results:
DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! Based on your body weight of 157, your consumption of 5 beers, and your sex, your blood alcohol concentration is estimated to be 0.10.

At .03 to .12 people may experience mild euphoria, loss of efficiency in finer performance tests. From .09 to .2 symptoms will be impairment of perception, impaired balance, slow reaction and drowsiness. Disorientation, dizziness, slurred speech and muscular incoordination become apparent at blood concentrations of .18 to .30. Serious health issues including death can occur at levels above .25

------------------------------------------------

I'm also 18 and weigh about 157. So I am kinda skinny, but I don't make a big deal out of it since I'm not enormously tall.

grtz

yocracking, get a work out program going. Keep it, don't go 2 times one week, then 1 time another. This is summer, time to build up for next year. Go to a Fitness Center about 2-4 times a week. Give yourself a day to let your muscles build, otherwise you'll keep breaking them down with no mass added to you. IMPORTANT: Eat lots of protein. Eat about 20g of it right after you work out. Try to eat protein in every meal. No matter how much you workout, if you don't eat protein, you won't gain any muscle. The body has no place to store protein. If it doesn't get it from an outside source, it will break down muscle to get its protein. Work out frequently, eat enough protein, and do cardiovascular training so you can see the muscle that you spent time to build. Hope this advice helps. Good luck!

THANKS FERMY...as i mention that i work at fedex and i pick up boxes u know now what u think i should do ? should i workout 3 to 4 times a week?? I work at fedex 5 times a week for 4 hours a day ?

Work out as much as you can, BUT allow atleast a day in between each workout sessions. Lifting boxes must do something. Workingout constantly AND lifting boxes will probably do a lot for you. Main tip: Just make a work out program, stick to it, and eat protein. It would surprise me if you didn't build up.
Remember: It's harder for some people to bulk up than others. Depends on the build that you have. But do this and I think you'll be fine.

Hey, Fermy how long do you reckon we should work out for. I would go to the gym except it's really out of the way and I haven't got the time for it at the moment, so at the moment I'm lifting six sets (my sets are 20 lifts) of 10kg a day. So how long do you think I should do my lifting for. More or less?
Thanks
Wee Man

I just started lifting weights a few months ago, starting at college. I was 6'2" at 155lbs when I started. I am now 6'2" at 170lbs.

I go the gym every day. I also work at a box factory, lifting and stacking 70lb boxes for 10 hours a day. I dont get enough rest though.

Anyways. Set a good program: For each muscle group (ex Biceps) I do 3 exercises, each giving 3 sets. (a set is one sitting at a machine. So do 3 lifts at one machine (i.e. do 10 curls, then wait a minute, increase weight and do 6. Then wait a minute, increase weight and do 3). Do sets like those for each workout. To gain mass, work on your legs and chest alot. But dont forget to let your muscles rest after working out. (A good workout time per day is around one hour.)

Monday: Chest and Triceps
Tuesday: Biceps and Back
Wednesday: Legs and Shoulders
Thursday: Chest and Triceps again
Friday: Biceps and Back again
On the weekend, just rest or do pushups and situps.

If you are mainly trying to gain weight, then just eat ALOT. Mainly Protien and Carbohydrates. Eat some carbs before a work out so you have energy and so you can lift a little more and better. After a work out, eat alot of protien and/or carbohydrates. Make sure to watch what you eat though. You dont want too much sugar and fat. Tunafish has lots of protien, peanut butter is good, rice, bread, etc. Just eat alot, and eat good, and

i have same problem as well mate. dont worry about it. i learnt that if you dont care about your figure, you are less self conscious and get more confident and stuff.

Most people don't put on a lot of weight until their twenties. When I was 18 and going into Basic Training I was 6'0" and 140 lbs. Yeah...pretty skinny. A scant three months later I was 160 lbs...so, physical activity comes heavily into play. :D

Now I'm 26, and 175-180 lbs. I'm still skinny, but I've filled out quite a bit over the last few years. Just be patient. :)

Hey there... My two cents here: You're doing too much already. Like they say, progress isn't made through exercise, it's made through exercise recovery. If you're lifting moderately heavy weight day in day out, you need to take it easy or you'll actually get skinnier and weaker. Take time off. I might even hazard a guess that since you're a beginner, relatively speaking, you don't need to actually work out at all - what you do through your job is plenty. Of course, nobody wants to hear that, so I'd say only work out ONCE every week, not two to four times as most people will tell you to do. It takes one whole hell of a long time to first recover, then build new muscle, and the recommended one or two days off between groups just doesn't cut it.

Just so you guys don't think I'm blabbing on, I was a steady 145lbs. at 5'11" for most of my life up until some years ago... My all-time-low was 125lbs. I currently fluctuate between 195-200, with a low enough bodyfat percentage that vascularity is actually visible. Last year this time, I was 225. I've whittled away at it a bit. Currently, I work out once a week, and I do everything on the same day. I lift heavy, and I do one warmup set, one full set, and one static set with no rest in between movements or even sets. Move from one thing to the next, don't stop. Then take it easy. All told, including stretches, we're looking at an hour and a half a week. I consider mself to be a "hardgainer", and I'm doing fine. Plus, it leaves me time for GT...

Oh, and watch your diet!
