Am I the only one pissed off about NYC Mayor Bloomberg forcing a smoking ban on all bars and restaurants in NYC and the state of New York? This is a violation of individual rights and the rights of business owners to run their business as they see fit! Along with what Duke said, I'd have to say that there isn't a state in the country that doesn't have at least a few cities with a similar ban. So don't flatter yourself into believing that New York should get rid of their mayor because you like to contribute to giving people cancer. Or something.

That was real constructive. I know plenty of good people who smoke - There are even two moderators here who smoke (or have since quit smoking) - Are you saying that they should've been shot? My dad smoked for one year back in his days - Are you suggesting that he should've been shot? Milefile used to smoke - Are you saying that he should've been shot? My great-aunt, who was my dearest relative before she died, used to smoke - Are you saying that she should've been shot? My uncle (who retired from Lockheed as one of the engineers who worked on the F-117 Nighthawk) used to smoke - Are you saying that he should've been shot? My neighbor smokes - Are you saying he should be shot?

The town of Helena, our State's Capital in Montana had a ban for all inside establishments. Business owners were very upset. I was talking with a local business owner who does not allow smoking in his bar, but here is what he said:

I suppose I do,... even being an ex-smoker,... I felt guilty about exposing people to my filthy habit, and now that I've quit,.. I dont want to be exposed.

Define Public.
Public place of a Private business? Government Funded or personal funding establishments?
Personal business owners should have the right to accept or deny smoking in their own establishment without legislation telling them what they can or can't do.

Thats tough to do,.. define.
Basically, IMO,... relating to ANYTHING mind-altering or health endangering, it's all the same.
I dont think bars/night clubs/any public place you can consume alcohol should be legal,... for the same reason I think that smoking should be illegal around anyone who may be involunarily effected by it.
The ONLY place a man should have free-will to do what he pleases is on his own personal property. Now, that might sound a bit, non-american, but I think it's in the best interests of society.

Opinion, I gave mine.... I don't have to defend it, i don't have to be constructive. I've lost 3 family members from long cancer, in on case through secondary smoking.

I can simpithize with your situation,... but saying that smokers need to be shot,... well,... what's that saying about your loved ones who died from it?
BTW,.. I dont think it's been proven that secondery smoke causes cancer.... so,... e-hem.

If your spouse is a smoker and will not quit, find a new spouse.
I don't like smoke, I hate bar smoke. I would love if every gig I played at was in a smoke free environment, HOWEVER, it is my choice to take gigs and play in a smoking environment.
Smoking is a filthy, expensive, and deadly habit, but that is no excuse for the legislationa to dictate what local business owners can and can't do in regards to this.

I guess we'll have to agree to dis-agree then,... I see ecactly where your comming from,... but I dont think people should have that much freedom, the freedom to subject virtually anyone to the enviornment a cigerette/cigar creates.
