They can do what I did and put in a 250GB HDD. I have 100GB left after putting tons of crap on mine. Even an external cheap 3.5" form factor HDD should be fine, too.

It's a minor problem with an easy solution.
I agree it is an easy solution, but tell that to the average guy who realizes he has to pay more for his game console to work properly and then do something with a hint of tech skills required.

To people who don't know they can do it or have looked into how to do it these HDD installs just sound crazy.

Put down my pre-order today and got my copy of the 'Metal Gear Saga Vol.2' DVD, so that will get a watch later on today.

Roll on the 12th and getting MGO back as well, I'm missing the beta more than I thought I would.

I'll be pre-ordering this beauty tomorrow, Scaff, where did you go to get the DVD?

If thats true I hope it warns you before hand and lets you save. Though I'm not convinced.

Yes, you can. You can even pause them now so you go take a mic, or skip them altogether. In the past you couldn't do any of that except 'fast forwarding' or skipping them after you played through the game once.

I put my pre-order in at GAME, no deposit required and I got the DVD and a limited edition 'points' card as well.

👍

Oh well, if you can then I'm all for the cut scenes, it'll take me a while to get through them all but the story in MGS is a good'un.

Any of you guys checked out the new MGS4 flash site? Got some pretty fun stuff on it including some 'training' missions.

Oh yeah... https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3018967&postcount=907 :)

I have every piece of downloadable content, even all the songs, from the Drebin Shop; so if you need something just let me know.

It seems there's going to be an official novelisation of the game, to be written by Raymond Benson. I stumbled onto this quite by accident; Benson is the man responsible for the continuation novels of Ian Fleming's James Bond (a Bond-related forum is where I found this stuff), though I never cared much for them. I read one or two back when I was about fifteen and didn't think they were as great as the original works. That doesn't mean he can't write; I just found the books boring compared to Fleming.

Seems this has been on the cards for a while now; the author's blog revealed it back in early March. I'll probably give it a miss; being a writer my ownself, I find it quite difficult to work within the bounds of another's imagination, and the work alway comes off as "almost" as it's neve quite the same. Hideo Kojima and maybe a small handful of others at Kojima Productions are the only people who truly understand Solid Snake when writing him; the same goes for any writer's creation. That's probably why I never thought too much of Benson's - or John Gardner's, for that matter - continuation novels. They were original works, yes, be entirely within boundaries set by another.

However, there may be one or two around here who are interested enough to warrant looking into it.

EDIT: And while the game's official website is actually pretty cool - I wasted a good hour between assignments yesterday evening - the problem is that the wallpapers don't come in a laptop resolution like 1280x800. Sure, there's one that's close, but it looks all cramped on my screen.

Smith: "We've talked about a lot of the next generation and all these new consoles... kind of feels like having finished through this game... it starts with Metal Gear."

Keighley: "Really? Well, it's that good?"

Smith: "Yes."

Keighley: "Better than Halo, better than Gears of War?"

Smith: "Yes."

Face son, face! I don't know why Keighley was so surprised that a Metal Gear game is... (gasp) good.

So I'm going to get this, but having not played the MGS series, I want to get the first three. So browsing around I came across this, should I get that, or buy them separately? Would I be missing out on anything?

Essentials is a great deal. It would be a tough find to snag up the original MGS for a better price, and it comes packed with the best versions of MGS2 and 3.

The only thing you'd be missing is MG and MG2, but honestly, the stories aren't really congruent with the Solid Series (lots of holes and what not) so you'd do better just getting the story from the Solid Series and the briefs. Following that, you can check out the Metal Gear Retrospective on Game Trailers, or try to find copies of the Metal Gear Saga's DVD's. Then you should be good to go :)

Start with MGS and then move on to MGS2 and then MGS3. If you do it in any other order, it'll be weird because the gameplay will be all over the place, lol.

No wai! :dopey:

Metal Gear Essentials is a perfect collection of the classic Metal Gear series of games for a beginner. It gives you the opportunity to play the games in chronological order, which will make the story less confusing for you.

But, you would need to start with MGS3: Subsistence which features a lot of innovative game features and elements compared with the other Metal Gear games. If you can get use to the idea of playing the Metal Gear series games progressively with less, or much different, game features, then I highly suggest playing them in chronological order.

If you don't think you can, play them as they were originally released. Just remember, the stories will seem to be 'jumping all over the place,' but that's the way we MG series fans played them.

The only 'problem' with this game collection is you'll be missing out on Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake games that were originally featured with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Subsistence. However, the story is rather simple and game play is nothing like the current Metal Gear series, so I don't feel you'll be missing much. Plus, you can always read up on the stories by doing a Wiki search and checking out videos on YT.

Heh, Essentials might actually give me a chance at playing the original Metal Gear Solid game ... while I've finished Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater, the most I've played of the first is an extened demo starting with Snake en route to Shadow Moses and finishing with him taking a call in the DARPA chief's cell just after the chief shuffled off. I was too young to play Metal Gear Solid, much less understand it - my parents were always big on me not playing violent games, which I'm thankful for - and by the time I was old enough, Sons of Liberty had been released and the original Metal Gear Solid game was log since out of production.

I'm actually playing through The Essentials Collection right now. It is definitely good for catching up on your MGS history.

Wait, I'm confused. Are you saying I should play them in 3-1-2 order? Is 3 a prequel?

Yes. Snake Eater - that's number three - takes place in the mid-1960s, whereas Metal Gear Solid and Sons of Liberty occur in 2005 and 2009 respectively (I think). The difference, however, is in the gameplay and the graphics (obviously). But that doesn't mean you should play them in the order 3-1-2; I think Kojima made Snake Eater when he did for a reason.
