Michelin Becomes Official Tire Supplier and Technical Partner of GT Sport

I could go for a bit of that!

I thought that too, but the shots in the video are all obviously pre-rendered, not in-game footage. Hopefully the blanket coverage of the logo in those scenes are just to keep the new partners happy during the reveal and don't actually reflect whats in-game.
I think it will on fictional tracks at least.

Why does the Michelin Man want to 'bring it'?

If Michelin partnership go well, we might see them in the next GT game or we might see new tire company for biding war for the spot. I love the partnership announcement at live event. We get to see the new content coming, I hope to it see more in the next live event.

Hopefully, they can give the cars more grip. Just as JPM compared his real life racing with having lots of grip, to "jumping in" a GTSport car that's very slippery on track.

I understand it's a partnership mainly for the World Events. So, most likely not going to translate for the multiple brands available for Gr.3, Gr.2, Gr.1 and Gr.B. However, could be applied to all N class cars that don't have tyre branding.

This partnership could be more than skin deep as Kaz mentioned how PD modelled tyres based on how they think they should be but then said he was surprised by the amount of grip a Michelin tyre had. Might be pure marketing but if they change a variable here and there for better durability and grip, it'll be the Michelin's to thank for it. PD will be able to introduce triple figure tyre wear as a result too.:D

They said the partnership was signed for 3 years. Could this be an indication of the lifetime length of GT Sport, 5 years in total? Or could it be an overlapping contract into GT7? This made me wonder if it was indicative.

I think it’s pretty safe to assume that Sport will have free content updates for as long as the game still holds official FIA championships, which don’t look like they’re going to end anytime soon.

It’s interesting to think how the purely cosmetic tire stickers work in real life. There are a huge selection of different companies between the tire wall stickers in the livery editor but it’s purely cosmetic. In real life each company would have a slightly different level of grip be it worse or better. That’s why there’s usually a sole tire supplier for any given series in real life.

Also obligatory meme inbound:

*Super-cool modern race cars in the trailer*
PD: I sleep.
*Michelin supplying digital tires*
PD: REAL 🤬!

It will be interesting to see if they actualy model tires like this
https://www.iracing.com/physics-modeling-ntm-v7-info-plus/

or just try and improve what they already do . Does michelin have a sim machine for testing already or will they build one ?

here is what i found
https://markets.businessinsider.com...port-even-more-gripping-for-gamers-1028470441

  • A new Michelin section on the Gran Turismo Sport "Brand Central" virtual museum, which introduces players to Michelin's deep history in global motorsports, performance and innovation.
  • Tire technology by Michelin available in the "Tuning" section of Gran Turismo Sport, applicable to the game's established hard, medium and soft formats.
  • On-track branding elements and scenography from many of the world's most celebrated motorsports competitions and venues.
so there is hope gtsport will by october not have the driving on ice type feeling anymore.

for contrast , goodyear has been working with sandia labs since 1990s simulating tires . infact a quick search will show every tire manufacture of note uses some form of simulation now to some degree

just about every nascar driver i seen asked about it says iracing physics model is as close to real they have tried in the gaming world and as far as i can see , iracing uses inhouse tire simulation so having said that i myself am interested to see what oct brings . if it goes the way it says it will i might actualy play gtsport again . we shall see

Yawn.

The only thing "wrong" with the grip model is the ridiculously high tire wear implemented during FIA races. So we'll have mandatory Michelin sidewalls in FIA come Oct? Whoopty-freakin-do! Though I love the delusional enthusiasm. You're doing a great job of convincing yourselves this is going to be ground breaking.

Didn’t see this coming. Do any of you? :D
My personal favourites are Bridgestone and Pirelli Because of F1. I know Michelin where apart of F1 to but they were the opposition for me . But all this talk about tyre data coming to GTS is going to be incredibly fantastic indeed.:gtpflag: I also want GT have brake squeaks that would a nice little detail. Also wow all this DLC and updates to the game it’s absolutely incredible what Sony, Kaz and Gran Turismo Sport are doing or going to do. They just keep on improving and making great decisions.
V8 Supercars please Kaz one day I begs you.

"Delusional enthusiasm"? Don't you want new things in Sport? FIA races need tweaks absolutely. The new slipstream model is OP and needs nerfed back.. Plus many other things need changing.

How do you know they don't plan to change tyre wear and make changes to the FIA races around the same time?

Here's the thing, you're all so caught up in NEW!!!! that you seem to have forgotten that new ≠ fantastic/amazing, or even something that should be cared about for that matter. Especially with, as you mentioned, all the things that actually need fixing. So yeah, delusional enthusiasm.

Changing the ridiculously high tire wear in FIA races doesn't require a new partner, they could just implement longer races.

Maybe they're planning to? Maybe they will shake up the races? Especially with the new qualifying options available in terms of tyre wear being available to differ from qualifying to race.

There's many things we don't know will change. There's some we do know. Which is my point.

If you're annoyed at how things are with the state of game right now then take a break and come back?

It's not our fault we're excited for incoming new changes

Hmmm, Ford Performance puts custom spec Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on their cars, Michelin becomes an official partner of Gran Turismo Sport. Ford GT and Shelby GT350R to Gran Turismo sport confirmed

Imagine being so bad at racing games you say stuff like his unironically

https://www.gran-turismo.com/us/news/00_8605883.html

mmediately following this weekend's "World Tour 2019 - New York" live event, Michelin will begin its role as the official tire supplier for the FIA GT Championships, and will also be featured in various forms with free downloadable content planned for the game by October.

:scared: NO WAY !

The FIA Certified Gran Turismo Championships is founded on a technical base established through 25 years of automotive physics simulation within Gran Turismo, and the unique automotive culture that it has achieved over the years. Having Michelin, the world’s leading tire brand with its passion for motorsports and solid engineering knowledge coming on board as an official tire supplier of the championships and a technical partner of the game itself, helps us continue in our vision of bridging the gap between virtual and real racing, and highlights these events as the future of motorsports.”

I've heard good stories from them about their passion for motorsport... (too bad that my memory is unable to bring the details).
