LoL.. my apologies.. gets me to wonder though why the originals were showing up so dark on my monitor.. hmmmmm.. wasn't the Irfanview proggy, not the computer, maybe the monitor ?? but if that were the case then all the pix would look dark, and they don't.. hmmmm.. back to the drawing board, and again, my apologies..................lata'.

I was wondering that, when you said my version of the image was still too dark. Most likely your monitor.. overall brightness might be okay, but maybe your constrast is turned up too high or something.

Do a Google for "monitor gamma adjustment" (or something similar).. there are webpages out there with various types of images and instructions on setting up your monitor with a proper color and gamma profile.

NW> Thanks for keeping the Photoshop issue civil. I was just waiting for a flame war.

So far, from the latest posts, things make me wonder. The issue of A-spec points changing the speed of the car? I clocked mine at 160mph before it dropped down to 154mph. I'll have to try it again in a few weeks. Though I'm sure it wasn't planned to be used this way, it might have been used later in the dev. process?

Also, Phil pointed out that the reason for the Nike One not being allowed in 6-car races due to the massive poly count. I think that's the same reason the Tank Car isn't allowed in a race. I can't imagine having to look at a low poly version of that. It'd be a crime!

One more thing. Thanks for that sweet render of the One-R. Did you have the final version done to submit? Or did you render it just for us?

I have a couple of questions for people who have the game:

1. Can you race the Nike One in 2 Player ?

2. Can you tune and upgrade the Nike One ?

3. Can you race a special car against one AI in Arcade?

4. Is there a list of special cars like this, so I don't waste my money?

Also, great information, really worth reading.

1. Can you race the Nike One in 2 Player ?

I haven't tried, but I would assume Yes.

2. Can you tune and upgrade the Nike One ?

No.

3. Can you race a special car against one AI in Arcade?

Yes.

4. Is there a list of special cars like this, so I don't waste my money?

Not yet, but pretty much any car that's permanently open-topped or with a visible driver (Nike, Tank Car, Caterham, etc) are all "special" cars because of the driver.

This may be me, but with the music on or down low, does anyone else hear like a heartbeat when driving this car? It gets faster with the faster you go. Kinda annoying and wierd.

Sweet find. You must be very observant. The nike car is pretty pointless because you can't race it at all in any races, very dumb.

where do u raefce the speacila cars, why have em if u cant race em,, big let down 👎

Thanks a lot for the info Phil. It's great to learn about the mechanics of the car and how it's powered rather than speculate on whether it has an electic motor, why the driver is in a prone position, etc.

I think that is the driver's heart beat, Phil said earlier it's powered by the driver's kinetic energy stored in electric cells. Makes sense that the faster he gets going the faster the car gets.

Well you don't have to be racing against other cars to enjoy the game, and besides its been stated why some cars can't be raced properly, its because of the poly count that gets upped with special cars etc.

@Phil - Wow thanks for all that, its great to hear from the creator of such a unique vehicle.

thanks for the info on this wonderful car Phil, i just have something to show you done by my buddy darin in MS Paint, he replicateds the nike ONE a while ago, and id thought id share it, just so you know, this is done in what us pixelcar artists call KuruKuru Style, as the originator behind our pixel art started with smooshed ones, and now i present to you. The Nike ONE

Phil, are you currently working on any concept cars? I'd love a sneak peak of anything you have, if you can legally show us. (doubtful) :indiff:

Wow GTplanet has really become Ze benchmark in term of the Gran Turismo community, for designers to come and give us a few comments, that's so nice!

I'm sure you are all proud of being a member, realise that's it's a great opportunity given to every single one of us.

It's a fun car to drive around the Nurburgring. Got some great photos the other day of my run around there. I really like the car. Sure, it's gimmicky, but it's a good drive.

Thanks for those concept sketches, Phil! Great stuff. A friend of mine saw you do a demo for a quick sketch class at the Art Institute of Portland. Said you were amazing to watch. I just graduated from there also, I'm bummed I didn't get to take that class.

Here's my 2020 Mazda RX-7 concept that was featured in Motor Trend (but not GT4 :guilty: ). Maybe we can race sometime ;)

WOW!! Holy Jesus, great concept!!!!! Have you got any other? 👍

This is an incredible thread. Amazing how you found the morse code and figured that out. Then you got ahold of Phil AND he replied in here!! :) 👍

Haha nice.

Is Darin still around?

If so, what name is he posting under now?

I wouldn't call it useless. From my experience most people that spend lots of time in Gran Turismo just run repeated hot laps in as many cars as they can on their favorite tracks.

Is it tunable? What kind of engine / motor does it have?

I agree...very much so.

I'm right here. :)

I did that pixel car a couple monthes ago. One of my first scratchers from MS Paint. Turned out better than I thought it would.

Word.

Someone should post a good photomode picture of the ONE so I can steal it.

After reading this thread the Nike One car has a whole new meaning. I wish every car in the game that seems weird could be explained to me by the actually creator!

Many thanks Phil Frank!

My feelings exactly.

Thanks again, Phil, for giving us the inside info on your creation. This is the coolest thread of all time.

👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

I appreciate the link Darin, but I couldn't quite find what I was looking for.

I'm just trying to find a (good quality) stand-still picture of the car featuring the morse code on the tires and side of the car.

Although I suppose I could just take the original of that one that was too dark and do my own photochop edit, but still.

We need more pics of this car.

just have to say a big thank you to PFD for the design of the Saleen S7, not only did it inspire me to become an industrial designer but it also leaves me feeling awe inspired everytime i see it.

now the nike one 2022 is another inspiration!!!

cheers to http://www.phil-frank.com/ for always being at the forefront.

Phil, thank you for giving us all this information regarding the car. Quite nice to know all of it, makes the car much more interesting to work with. I look forward to playing with it just that much more.

Towards those of you that call it pointless, consider that there is more to the game than completing it. The actual experiance is a big part, and this unique aspects add greatly to that.

Now I have a question of my own regarding the car. From what I've gathered here, it has an independent drive for each wheel - some sort of electro mag lev setup from what I've heard and looks like. Out of curiousity, how would a transmission work for this vehicle? I'm sure if I see the needs for a torque converter and what not if the wheels are being moved with magnetic force and not a mechanical spinner (sorry for lack of a better word). Its not so much that the gears bother me, I am just curious, as I find most future drive systems quite interesting, espcially systems relating to mag-lev technology.

Again, thank you for taking the time to come visit us here at GTP.

Oh, and just remembered... I made an ad using the Nike ONE for the "Photomode Ad" Thread...
