My thoughts exactly. I finally got round to watching the race tonight and I'll update the first post soon but the next race is on 3rd October so not too long to wait.

But Yamaha gave the squad a Misano deadline in early September to outline their 2011 plans and it was confirmed during last weekend’s Motorland Aragon race that all were leaving. The news was first reported by MCN on Saturday night via twitter.com/birtymotogp Yamaha’s declaration that Burgess and the crew will quit makes it inevitable that they will be in tandem with Rossi again next season when he tries to win a tenth world crown for Ducati.

Preziosi though says no deal has been signed with Rossi’s crew, but he expected negotiations to reach a successful and imminent conclusion.

Very interesting...

Good stuff, that makes Rossi's move even more interesting and more likely to be a success.

Indeed!!

Can you imagine what happens when Vale wins a race on a Ducati in Italy?....:scared:...lol

Imagine if he wins another championship...

How many manufacturers will that be??

Aprillia
Honda
Yamaha
Ducati

3 of those in the premier class...
Anybody done that before?

To put things into perspective.

Rossi is currently 4th in the Championship, His worst result since 1996 (14 years ago), which was his first year in 125's. And in order for that to happen he has had a broken leg and injured shoulder and missed 4 races...

Simply incredible.

That and the fact he is also a very funny and nice guy,he is and will remain on top of my all time hero list .... 👍👍👍

Apparently Rossi is going to consider having the shoulder operation after the next race and miss the last 2 races rather than get it done at the end of the season. Personally I think he should get it done now and miss all the races, he's not going to get any more decent results so just needs to focus on next year.

His time with Yamaha has been amazing but that doesn't lessen my excitement about his move to Ducati. If he does manage to win the title with them and be the first person to win the premier class with 3 manufacturers then he will have truly rewritten the history books.

I'm chuffed Hayden proved he's still got it, it'll be good for Rossi to have a strong team mate and it also proves Ducati is getting back on form.

There's going to be some epic battles next year especially between Rossi and Lorenzo, can't wait :D

Doh!

Dani Pedrosa breaks collarbone in Motegi crash

BBC
Dani Pedrosa has broken his collarbone after a crash in practice for Sunday's Japanese MotoGP, all but handing the world title to Jorge Lorenzo.

The Repsol Honda rider suffered a multiple fracture of his left collarbone six minutes into practice at Motegi, his team's home circuit.

He is likely to miss three races which take place over consecutive weekends.

With him being Lorenzo's only serious title rival, that means the Fiat Yamaha rider has almost won the title already.

Pedrosa, 25, crashed after just two laps and was seen limping away from his bike, and will definitely miss Sunday's race.

"When he crashed he suffered a multiple fracture of the left collarbone, and that requires an operation to have the best chance of returning to racing as soon as possible," said MotoGP medical director Michele Macchiagodena.

He also hinted Pedrosa would definitely miss the next round of the championship, in Malaysia.

"First we need to know when he can be operated on, then we will know when he can race again. We will see him in Australia (the round after Malaysia).

It had been feared Pedrosa had also suffered an ankle fracture but this was ruled out.

"We x-rayed the ankle as well and it is okay. He had old fractures but nothing new, just a small contusion."

Lorenzo leads the championship race by 56 points, with five races remaining.

He has been by far the most consistent rider in the competition, failing to finish on the podium in just one race so far this season.

But he has also benefitted from a broken leg sidelining team-mate Valentino Rossi and ending his world title chances, and now Pedrosa's misfortune too.

There's always next year.
Hmmm, I wonder if Lorenzo isn't plotting all these crashes. Hmmm....... :ill:

The 2010 MotoGP season is starting to look like a non-event. Too many injuries and illnesses from those who should have been the title protagonists. Lorenzo has ridden well this year but it's looking like a hollow victory now. It's certainly not a classic season.

Although Lorenzo gets the title this year, I dont think he will ever get the credit for it seeing as Rossi was out and now Pedrosa.

Roll on next year I say. Lots to look forward too. If Rossi wins the title on the Ducati, I will run naked in the streets!! haha

I must admit my interest has wained in this season (although I'm still watching the race this weekend) in the last couple of months so hopefully next year will be more exciting. I do feel sorry for Lorenzo that his first title was practically gifted to him but he's ridden so well and shown a lot of maturity I didn't know he had so he's definitely gone up in my estimations.

Hopefully Ducati will continue their good form and put on a show on Sunday....actually it looks like Rossi might back on it, he's fastest in Friday practice!

I agree:tup:

Thats good news Rossi being on the pace. In the back of my mind I have been worried that just mabe Rossi would not bounce back from his injuries fully, whether mentally or physically.

At his level, with all that he has won, to still have the drive to go out there especially after his injury must be tough enough alone.

Discussing Moto GP with my friend, I told him to watch out for Lorenzo in 2010, all Lorenzo had to do was mature as a rider, and he has done that. to be honest he has not pushed so hard the last few races as he has not had to so, that is clever. even if Rossi was never injured I think Lorenzo would have been a stern challenge. Lorenzo is getting better, but Rossi in theory now he is getting older can only get worse, but with Rossi, I guess we can never count him out, as there is something Very ALien about him!!

Yeah same here mate,i will also watch the race Sunday, but with not much interest to be honest...

Amazing that Rossi is fastest in 1st practice, but this worries me a little bit ....If he crashes again on this very demanding and dangerous circuit(have seen many serious cgrashes there before...)he might damage more in his body than nessesary...but he!..if he wins here Sunday, his hero status will again be upped.......

Lets see what happends, and lets hope no more riders will suffer any injuries!!!

Nice race.. good to see Vale and Lorenzo battle again. I think Rossi could have ran with Stoner and Dovi had Lorenzo not made that pass on lap 1. Was worth getting up at 6:30 am to watch for sure.. And I'm looking forward to the next 3 races.. Hope Dani will return for Sepang. 👍

I didn't waste my chance of a lie in so have only just watched it. Good to see Stoner repeating his amazing form from the last race and Edwards having his best race of the year but the Fiat Yamaha boys last few laps made the race for me. Not quiet as spectacular as Stoner and Rossi's battle at Laguna Seca in 2008 but still rates as one of the most exciting few laps of recent months, hats off to both of them for having the balls to fight so hard when one has so much to lose and the other has so little to gain.

It's obvious Rossi is still struggling with his shoulder but it's good to see him back on the pace also helped with his new engine which is apparently much better in 4th and 5th gears. It'll be interesting to see what Lorenzo does with it when he gets his new engine, I reckon he will wait until Estoril so he can really turn the wick up on it for the last two races and end the season in style :D

The next race is in a weeks time in Sepang, Malaysia. I'll update the first post soon with the times etc.

Does no one mention Spies?
He came from last place in the mishap from turn 5. He turned it up and wound up in 8 place when it was all said and done. Woot

I couldn't tell you how many times my heart stopped when Rossi and Lorenzo touched bikes. I surely thought one of them was either going down or off course. *whew*
Great race and I'm so glad that Stoner took the lead and never looked back. Heck, I'm so glad Stoner is back on pace with the best because of his little deal with him having to to take some time off for some personal issues. Many thought he wouldn't be himself again but that's changed and I'm so glad.
I'm a big Stoner fan and he deserves another championship.

Great race and I had to stay up until 2AM CST to watch the race as it happened. No rerun this time for me. ;)

Indeed Spies did have an outstanding ride even if his final position wasn't great compared to his team mate. Put into context against Hayden who went off track at the same time (and possibly caused the incident) and it shows how well he did. Hopefully he'll be on even better form next year now he's learnt the new tracks and give Lorenzo some decent inter-team competition.

Just watched the race, fantastic battle between Rossi and Lorenzo, hope to see that a few more times in the last races this year...

Well IMO he should have gotten a better result than 8th place to begin, so no, he doesn't deserve much mention. Edwards put in a very impressive, MISTAKE free ride though 👍

Edwards didn't have to come back from last place.
You apparently don't see how it's harder to come back from last to 8th position, going through traffic, and all.
It takes more gumption to do that than to maintain a position of having a 'mistake free' run.
Give a little credit where it's due and I'm sure that we're all human making mistakes along the way in our life so to say that Spies made the mistake, that's arguable too. Some say Hayden caused the mishap and not a mistake.

Oh well, I still like Spies, and feel he'll be a force to reckon with next year. 👍

Edwards didn't have to come back from last place because he never made a mistake to put him in such a situation to begin with. At the end of the day it's all about achieving the best possible finishing position and staying out of trouble, not how hard you had to ride during the race to come back from adversity (which was self induced). I'm a big fan of Spies and admit he did a stellar job to come back from last place (after his off), but IMO at the end of the day he still underperformed in terms of the achieved results. In this race in particular Edward's deserve more mention than Spies.

My 2 cents (since you originally proposed the question)

If Rossi can once again out perform Lorenzo this weekend (and for the remainder of the season) it will make Lorenzo's Championship that much more bitter sweet and likely to play with Lorenzo's mind that much more  No question Lorenzo has riden brilliantly this season, but without a doubht if Rossi had been healthy and injury free throughout the season it would have been a much more hard fought battle. And now that the Yamaha and Rossi (Rossi and Lorenzo as teammates) partnership is coming to an end, Lorenzo is probably feeling like he must take the old dog out (on equal machinery) once and for all and prove that he IS the best, heading into the future (near or far).

I remember watching the qualifying session from last weekend and watching Lorenzo's reaction when he couldn't find those few hundreths to beat Rossi. I must say he seemed pretty damn dejected and ticked off for a man that was basically inline to win the Championship. Then getting that proper schooling from Rossi in the race must have been icing on the cake for his ego that weekend

For me, the Lorenzo/Rossi on track battles have been one of the most intriuging aspects in MotoGP in the past two years or so. Hopefully we get some more actions between the two of them this weekend as well :)

I'm pretty sure this weekend is going to be eventful between Rossi and Lorenzo. Lorenzo has used the old engine today but is probably going to use the new engine tomorrow (and I assume the race too) so he should be able to go a bit quicker.

Also Rossi has said he will see out the rest of the season and won't end it early for the shoulder operation, he must be enjoying duffing Lorenzo up too much :D
