I think there's no way of stopping this type of thing happening. Think about it. GTPlanet is a Forum. People come here to participate in the forum (post) and to browse the forums for information or whatever.

If someone posts something not directly related to the race thread and I respond to it, is that not allowed? If you want to punish people for posting threads what is the point of the forum then?

What happens if a new person comes along and reads some stuff on a race and then posts a response not directly related to the race thread itself? Will they get a warning not to do it again, or be told to read the rules and not let it happen again!

You must have better things to do than go around the race threads and post warnings about this sort of thing. It's a losing battle Talentless and your not going to change the way people post.

I'm not meaning this as a personal attack but drop the big brother attitude and just let people get on with the racing and the odd post.

GVX, I am one of the moderators and it is my job to enforce the rules created by my superior(s), in this case Jordan. Has anyone actualy read this thread, http://forums.gtplanet.net/showthread.php? threadid=6851? ?

"Please ONLY start threads that are intended to be used for the posting of times or race reports, and reserve the discussion of racing to the Online Challenges and Races main forum."

Big brother is an unfair label.

Look, just tell Jordan you disagree with him and see if he is willing to repeal it.

My point exactly!! Has anyone bothered reading this? I doubt it man. How are you going to get everyone on this Board to read and follow the rules. NO CHANCE!! People come and go and will post where and whenever they like. This makes your job impossible to control and it must be a pain in the a$$ repeating the same $hit all the time.

Not meant as a personal attack, but if you look back over your posts that's what appears to be happening. As soon as someone posts something that's not 100% related to the original thread your posting a reply saying it's not allowed, and don't do it again. Most people who read your posts don't have a clue what's going on as they never read the rules in the first place!

Well, willful ignorance is not an excuse, but you are right that it would make me less popular than I already am if I were to go around deleting several posts. Actually, I think the rules were set up to avoid cluttering a thread. If the post at least has some relation to the challenge, it can discuss rash medicine for all I care, but I think some posts had nothing to do with the challenge at all. There's also the main C&R boad for the purpose of general race discussion, but I understand the conveniance of talking here.

Sorry, I meant label, for lack of a better word, in the sense of comparing my actions to a big brother, I'm supposed to give warnings and request that people follow the rules, if that is big brother than I am big brother, but it makes me seem like some bad ol' villian, as if I were imposing communism? I'm not.

I think that Jordan might drop in and see these discussions sometime, so I'm sure he'll give some kind of announcement regarding it.

GVX, I don't think you're looking at the forum from the right perspective. It's our job (as moderators and administrators), to keep the forums easy to read and use. If the challenges and races forums were the only ones on the site, your comments would be very true and it would only be logical to go along with them. But, we have dozens of other forums here to discuss those other topics, and that's where they should be discussed.

I see what your saying in a way but it seems pretty wierd having to chop and change threads for a discussion that started in one thread and went off topic  which happens a lot in many threads , looks like its being turned into a library style forum and should only post under the relevant section when it is just different typed words and still could be relevant in keeping people interested in the thread that drew there attention in the 1st place, and now we've to jump from thread to thread  Seems a bit harsh considering the amount of people we get in the challenge section to start with  Sorry man i know you run the show but i am leaning towards the way that GVX is seeing it , but if it's a new commandment i guess we'll just have to bow down gracefully. Thanx for listening and giving your input on this. Please note i think Talentless is doing a great job and hope to see more interest in the racing side as well as the moderating side also. later guys

I manage this site the way I would want the site to be managed if I was normal visitor. And, if I was a normal visitor who wanted to race in a challenge, I wouldn't want to read about the price of rice in China while trying to compare my times with other drivers. But, obviously, I'm not in the online racing scene much (because I suck), and if I'm horribly wrong on those assumptions, I'm more than willing to modify the rules.

Not trying to rock the boat too much Jordan but just trying to put the point across that we need to try and slacken down on the rules for the race forums. As it stands currently someone can only post a reply to a race thread providing that it's directly connected to that race.

I personally think it's going to be difficult moderate what happens in the race forums and I will personally try and keep non specific race related posts to a minimum providing that I don't get lecturered every time I post something not 100% related.

As there's only a small number of people who participate in the OLR forums we tend to post in the race forums. So that's why your rules have been abused thuis far.

I'm sure we can come to a ammicable solution for all parties involved.

Sorry Jordan , but i agree with Mr P and GVX here on this matter , topics going off subject happen all the time not just here but at other forums also . This forum is the best out of them all, but i think the posts in a thread rules need to be slackened , so long as everyone is getting along fine i don't see a problem
If the challenge starter feels annoyed at people starting off topic conversations in their thread then i think they sould be the one's to state so . Like Mr P says there are only a handfull or 2 here that take part in the challenges and we tend to communicate within the challenge threads as we know it will be seen here , hope you get my point .

*:nervous: of the boss *

Ok. Oh, just one thing in my defense GVX, I think your 100 % coments may be slight exaggeration, like I said, I just want a mention, you can add other comments with it.

GVX: Great time Lotus!

Do you like cheese?

Lotus: Thanks!

Yes I do.

Talentless: :)

Well that's my current position at least. Just mention something about the challenge and I'll be ok.
