Handicaps Through Week 5

Wk5Hcap.jpg

Congrats once again to Smallhorses for the win and fastest lap this week.

MadMax once again ends up in second place. 👍

And I somehow managed to round out the podium with a relatively consistent performance.

For the series to date, Smallhorses is in first, my every week participation still has me in second, while MadMax86 will be passing me this week but is currently in 3rd. :sly:

Thanks to all for submitting, and I think the handicaps are working as planned. Some tight racing all the way through. 👍

I gave this alredy one try and when had selected the track
went to "favorites" choose the MX-5 1800 RS '04 and:

The Driving Options were:

Transmission
Driving Aids
Tyres
Roof
(ok)

I was a moment confused, like is something missing

so, eh while been limited by options availeble I gave it a few full races.

Hmmm - I'll have to take a look at this tonight. Are you sure you did not accidentally have the top open?

Anyhow, Handicaps have been added to the first post. Not too much in the way of changes, but please note them and run accordingly. 👍

I quite enjoy Motegi... let's hope I don't get held up by traffic in this like I did in the previous race! Also lets hope more people submit times...

I attempted to race yesterday but did not catch anything wrong in the menu it all seem to be 👍
Wonder what could have happened?

I attempted to race yesterday but did not catch anything wrong in the menu it all seem to be 👍
Wonder what could have happened?

It was a temporary bug which cleared after I returned to it again.

I raced against:

hatchi-roku
miata
206 of some kind
and 2 italian cars

as you can quess ,I passed them all on 1st lap.
so I assume the difficulty was 0

This brings to mind one other thig that happened
during WRS181 replay check:

at the start of replay the car "lost notes" about how I drive'd it
and it crashed to wall right from start of the track/pre lap zone.
(same if you start the race and don't accelerate and steer any, but this was on replay)

I saved the replay and ghost to see if it was to be premanent or temporary bug.
I wiewed the replay and ghost in replay theatre and they were just fine.

I assume these 2 cases were caused by lazer missread.
the top was closed in each case.

Just attempted the race on difficulty of 7, but I'd like to put one of my corners under scrutiny and come to some sort of conclusion on whether I should disqualify my time and do another race, or not.

The incident in question was on lap 5, exiting the first corner. I'd taken a wide line as a 300ZX and a Clio V6 were fighting each other on the inside. As we exited the corner the Nissan closed the door and squeezed me out, so I backed off but ran out of room, taking to the curb.

Now, I'd like you to look at the following sequence of pictures and decide whether it constitutes "two wheels on the circuit at all times". We all know the kerbs are part of the circuit, but...

1. Pushed wide...
IMG0023.jpg

2. Still two wheels completely on the circuit
IMG0024.jpg

3. Still just on the kerb
IMG0025.jpg

4. Hmmm. Is my back wheel considered "on" or "off" here? Although the image looks like I'm coming back onto the circuit, you can see from previous shots that the car is yawing to the right, not driving straight. The car is sliding. But is it off? Advice please...
IMG0026.jpg

5. Two wheels safely on the circuit again
IMG0027.jpg

Simple yes or no really. I have no idea how quick my race was, and I was getting held up a lot by the Clio until it got to the front and cleared off. If anyone considers this invalid I'll simply do another. But if I don't have to, I won't :P

I would need to view the replay and from all angles to say for certain. I'll just say -

To me, it looks clean.

But if it was my run, I would try again to avoid such a close call.

Finally, there is the OLR mantra - "If you are unsure whether your lap is clean, then consider it dirty".

That's all I've got. :sly:

Hmmm, tough call on my end. I have run into a situation like that myself. I'm thinking if you were forced off, then it could count as clean since you didn't have much of a choice, but the nagain as EDK already pointed out, there is the old OLR motto.

Thanks for the quick replies guys 👍

I think, given this comment:

EDK
Finally, there is the OLR mantra - "If you are unsure whether your lap is clean, then consider it dirty".

...that I will do a run again. I am unsure, which I guess is why I posed the question, so I'll have another attempt and see if I can get an unquestionably clean run 👍

I agree with all of you regarding the OLR rule. If you're not sure it's clean, then it's dirty, and the part where Camyron said about being forced..but don't forget after all we are racing with AI which always bumps you from the back or the side...

I gave it a try this morning and it was ok but there's a lot out there, i guess i have a 2 more sessions then i'll submit, all

I've tried all week and can't get a clean lap on this track!!!
I keep falling asleep :D seriously!!!!

I managed a run I'm satisfied with this morning, so I'm going to submit now. The full version of Montegi is one of my least favorite tracks on the game, but I managed to maintain a reasonable pace for most of the laps. Excluding the blue tire laps, I lost about 3 seconds overall to my fastest lap with some small mistakes.

Here are the splits from lap 4, my fastest -

40.865
1:15.022
1:45.090

I set the AI to 9. With so many long straight sections, I found the Miata did not have enough power for me to make and keep a pass, and the back of the pack AI kept slowing me down. I was able to do a little drafting and stay resonably close to the back 3 cars all race long.

Here was the AI lineup -

Mazda RX-7 Type RD '94
Toyota MR2 GT-S '97
Ford Mustang GT '05
Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX Sti '94
Mercedes SL500 '02

The Merc must have a sequential tranny in RL, the shifting sounded really cool and smooth. It eventually finished in 3rd, followed by the Mustang then the Suby. Bob kept driving the Suby off track in turn 2, not sure how he managed that one.

Looking forward to Tsukuba, should be some challenging and tight racing there. 👍

Final note - I will not be home at deadline time tomorrow, so the results will probably get posted 2-3 hours after the deadline.

Only one submission sent to me so far, hoping to see more.

Kevin

Had a chance to take a good shot at this race today. Found, like most others, that the AI is incredibly frustrating here because of the long straight and sharp turns, which means they invariably run into the back of you. :ouch:
Eventually ended up setting AI to +10 again, and ran in clear air as I lost by about 25s from a Nissan Skyline R32. I did manage to catch a good draft from the 5th placed Mercedes CL600 on the last few laps, and hence got a T3 split of 1'44.169 on my fastest lap, but couldn't pass him on the final lap and lost about 1.3s over my fastest laptime. 👍

Thought I had 2 close-call moments, one similar to homeforsummer's on lap 7, and one at the exit of the final turn on lap 3. Scrutinised them to death and beyond, and they're actually not as close as I thought, and nothing like as close as the photos that homeforsummer posted.

Submitting now.

Other then a few mock runs, I haven't really had a chance. I'll get it done though tomarrow morning and send it in. Man, the AI just kills me here:indiff:

Use +10, let them run off into the distance and enjoy clean laps. :sly:
The AI is soooo inconsistent at this track that the +7 setting cars cannot be trusted not to knock you off the track at every other bend, +8 isn't much better, and even most of the +9 lineups will involve a tussle with the backmarking AI, which you'll come out of worst 9 times out of 10. :grumpy:

Smallhorses, i agree with you, but i submitted with AI-7, i found it more challenging :dopey:, overtaking a car then loosing the position at the next curve or slip streaming and defending the racing line:sly:, well i gave it a try after the F1 qual. round yesterday:dunce:

Alas, I think for me, Motegi is cursed. Let me explain, again with pretty pictures...

For the first few laps I had a Celica GT4 and Audi S4 in front of me, on level 7 difficulty. The Audi shoved past the Celica and a lap later I took his place when he went wide on a corner. I then followed the Audi for a bit, and took him too on a slow corner.

He managed to stick with me thanks to his extra power, but then the trouble began.

See us here, happily approaching the first left hander of turn 3...
IMG0028.jpg
IMG0029.jpg
IMG0030.jpg

I'd been trying to avoid getting his slipstream, so as you can see above, I start moving back to the racing line, and the Audi follows, as the AI do at that point.

He must have thought he had a sniff at passing, as you can see from the following two shots, as he starts to move to the inside:
IMG0031.jpg
IMG0032-1.jpg

Now here is where the trouble begins. Audi decides to take avoiding action, even though there is nothing to avoid. These two shots are different angles of the same timeframe, and as you can see, I wasn't "in his way":
IMG0033.jpg
IMG0034.jpg

As he was doing this, I was concentrating on apexing, though during the next two frames, I was actually thinking "he's just disappeared from my mirrors...":
IMG0035.jpg
IMG0036-1.jpg

This is about the moment that a sense of crushing inevitability fell upon me, when the Audi behind had suddenly disappeared from view, and his last known movement had been up my inside...
IMG0037.jpg
IMG0038.jpg

You've probably already guessed what's coming from the second shot above...

Closer...

"Crunch"
IMG0042.jpg

With damage modelling, a similar accident would have been really quite interesting. I've seen exactly the same thing happen in touring cars before, albeit the driver out of control had been punted into that state, and both cars came out looking very second-hand.

As it is, the Audi's chaotic movement slowed as he hit the tarmac, and I skidded unhelpfully towards the gravel, from which I promptly extracted myself and continued.
IMG0043.jpg
IMG0045.jpg

Further watching of the replay revealed that he dithered in the middle of the road for a bit, spun back onto the infield and then let the Celica past again.

Realistically, I shouldn't submit my time as a) I clearly ended up with 4 wheels off the circuit and b) in a real race, my car would have been totaled, but with everyone's blessings here I'll submit it anyway. It's about ten seconds slower overall than my last attempt with the dubious kerb usage was, so it's not like I gained an avantage from the incident...

Time submitted 2:56 PM , 11:56 GMT

I ran this again today and ended up with my best perfomance so far.

About 7 ai contacts and 6 out of 7 were from AI charging
my rearbumper on straith or when I was braking to take a turn.

lineup (AI +10)

Mazda RX-8 Concept (Type-I) '01
Nissan SKYLINE GT-R N1 '91
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII GT-A '02
Subaru IMPREZA Coupe 22B-Sti Ver.
TVR V8S '91

splits from fastest lap : (lap 6 )
T1 0'41.045
T2 1'14.976
T3 1'44.284

Passed TVR V8S on lap 2 due to IMPREZA's driver chose to drift the 180 before T1. It almost T-boned the Lancer when returning to track.
Link to IMPREZA 180 shot
On lap 6 I catched a nice draft from V8S when it overpowered me on a straith at 180 turn before T1

Hah! That Impreza seems to have done exactly the same as the Audi in my race did (see post above yours), only I came a cropper because of it! Seems we've found a glitch in the AI.

About 7 hours until the deadline.

homeforsummer, if you do not have time to make another run, I'll accept what you have, in light of the fact that if anything you lost time as a result of the incident and it clearly was not your fault. I'd rather have everyone with limited contact and 4 wheels on track at all times, but I understand that may not always be possible.

Bob clearly has no idea what to do with that turn in AWD cars.

Yay! East Curve, V Curve and Victory Corner are the best places to pass the AI. I did it on difficulty 7 thinking I may have a shot at them and indeed I did:D It is actually possible to get out front, which me like:sly:

Also, official new driving music for me:):

Submitted 7:41pm GMT

Unfortunately I'm going to have to settle for the run with the crash. I've barely been able to get on the PS2 as it is this week and should really be preparing a uni presentation, not playing GT4! :P

A quick look at my camera reveals I was against the offending Audi S4, a Celica GT-Four '98, an S2000, and '01 and '02 Skyline Sedans. Finished fourth in the end, ahead of the eejit in the Audi and the GT-Four, very close behind the S2K, and quite a distance behind the two Skylines. Fastest lap was my last!

Also, official new driving music for me:):

Cool tune! Hadn't heard of The Faint before, but they're definitely my style of music, just previewed their last 2 albums on Amazon, and they're both now on my Christmas wish list! :sly:

Kind of like a cross between The Bravery & Oppenheimer, both of whom I like too. 👍

Time submitted!
OMG One good run afterabout 10 tries!!!!
Kept getting hit from behind and hitting others forcing me to pit or getting hit into the sand :grumpy: usually on lap 7 or 8... very frustrating.

I did not even try again one good lap is all I got, I hope is good :nervous:

Good luck all!!!
