Well I was up until past 2.30am having waited for the download and quickly jumping into a quick race just to see how things were. My experience -

- The very whitish oversaturated opening video has not been fixed

- The graphics are still awful

- Damage sustained in a race still carries over to the replays, right from the start

-AI are still crashing into me as though its a demolition derby

I'm sure lots of issues have been addressed, but its not noticable to me after just quickly dipping into it. It's still the ugliest game I own on the PS4 (I've recently upgraded to a Pro & a 4K HDR TV and that barely helps).

I don’t get how people say the game is ugly. I see videos and screenshots of the game on PS4/Pro and it looks great. I guess GTS looks better in screenshots but looks worse during gameplay, in the videos anyway, don’t have PS4 to compare.

You've seen videos and screenshots? So you down own the game yourself then? Trust me, it's ugly as **** on standard PS4. The problem is the terrible AA and the ridiculously close LoD pop-in. We were being told it was going to be fixed in the first patch, along with all the "major" issues. Now we have 2.0 and people are complaining all the major bugs are still there. What did this patch actually fix then?

I own the game on PC, like I said, I don’t have a PS4.

In that case I'm not sure on what basis you formed an opinion of the PS4 version, but whatever.

Yeah I've read the patch notes, but what it says has been fixed, and what actually has been fixed, are usually two very different things in SMS games, as evidenced by so many people saying the graphical issues are still present, despite the patch notes claiming there have been a lot of render improvements. There seems to be a bunch of major issues still in the game, such as the huge lag spikes when someone joins or leave an online session. Also, the Fanatec CSL-E apparently still doesn't work properly on the PS4 version. I've yet to test these, as I'm waiting for the patch to download (thanks Aussie internet speeds), but the number of people reporting that major issues, that were said to be fixed in 2.0, aren't fixed, is worrying.

A solid list of things that a Beta tester would have found in the first hour of playing.

FFS, PC1 had USB keyboard support from the jump...they had to add that in a 2.0 patch...brutal. So amateur.

Guys, I really don't know what to tell you man.
I'm an old guy that started playing Pole Position, remember this?

The progress in the dev world has been staggering with hardware/software.
I'm content with PC2, it's already given me $60 of entertainment.
I wish you luck on your bugs.

I think it looks fine, but I've always found the contempt for jaggies to be overblown. The other small blemishes are also easy to overlook, though of course it wouldn't hurt if SMS could polish them away.

The GTS beta is prettier, but I think PCARS2 looks better than The Crew, Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo, or Dirt 4.

I agree. Project CARS 2 is the only sequel I've ever bought that downgraded the graphics over the first game. Project CARS 2 looks noticeably worse than the first game. I understand the first game isn't pulling as heavy of a load as 2, but it's still really frustrating.

It's also easy to see this game isn't optimized for the PS4. The load times are still the slowest I've dealt with on PS4, I'm getting constant lagging and drops to below 30fps in some instances during the race, and pit stop assets are still appearing in Fuji Speedway's main straight (which sucks because it's my favourite track in the game).

Everything else is fine for me, but this game is so unpolished for what SMS promised and the experience I had with GTS' beta was much smoother and consistent. I'm not experiencing nearly as much lag in GTS' online lobbies as PC2's.

I payed $120 for this game gosh darn, I expect it to work better.

You are further proving my point, thank you.
Yes if the game was 🤬 free you still would have people complaining. So your point is pretty redundant. Could you imagine "buying" an SMS game that actually works as advertised. What a 🤬 concept that would be!:gtpflag:

my problem is with the industry in general as well. The people who buy the game at full price shouldn't feel like the beta testers. Whoever these QA people were should have played the game at least once on a standard PS4 before they decided to ship the game. It doesn't even feel like SMS put effort into making sure the standard PS4 release was stable before shipping it.

Sadly never tried PC1 on PS4 so can’t compare, BUT, I did find personally that if you turn off the “Post-Processing Filters” under the Visual FX settings I found the overall image to be less flat and dull and a bit more vibrant.

Did see on the official PC forum that SMS are investingatig some graphic issues on PS4 so hopefully it will get refined and improved in a later patch.

Sad to hear you’re having a lot of problems still, personally I’m having a blast on PC2 on PS4 after finally finding some controller settings that work for me and take away the twitchy/floaty handling.
Sad to say I did shelve the game the past 3 weeks waiting for the patch after reading all the issues everyone was having. But since updating yesterday I’ve been really enjoying the game again

I've had fun with the game overall, but the laundry list of bugs I've experienced and the occasional crash have soured the experience. I'm hoping all these gripes get fixed before the 458 and the Ferrari pack come out.

I spent a fair few hours on the game yesterday and thankfully didn’t get any bugs (admittedly I was only doing the test sessions and trying various cars and circuits),
...except one graphic issue driving the Aston Martin DB11 around historic Spa where it appeared it failed to load some graphics at one point of the circuit and had a random white patch with nothing there.
Overall sound seems much more improved this patch and better balanced (unless it’s placebo too).

Do agree there’s still a lot of work to do on the PS4 version though to get it up to par with where it should be from the looks of issues people are still having.

This x1000000000000000000

Having started gaming on a 286 PC playing a F1 game with only 3 cars and 4 tracks...everything was a shade of orange.

I don't see issues with how Pcars2 looks at all. Sure it doesn't look like DriveClub or GT Sport but who cares it still looks great imo and plays incredible! Patch has been great so far for me and the only stuff I want them to work on now is some interface changes and releasing the DLC :P

It’s about time that we had the same option on PS4 digital as steam, 2 hour trial and make a decision to keep or return any game. It would have taken me 20 mins game time to make my decision to return this, and that’s being generous.
Is this game fixable, particularly the eyesore that it is? I certainly hope so.

I think patch 2.0 is an improvement from what I've seen so far. Menu lag is gone, fast AI qualifying times improved, Racing Line working properly... Good job! Don't know if this is just placebo effect, but I think the graphics are slightly sharper too.

With regards to the graphics overall on the base PS4 though, i'm in agreement with the above posts. There's been a substantial graphical downgrade in PC2 compared to PC1. The poor quality shadows are what stand out to me - particularly at the rear of the cars, around the wheels. The shadows almost look corrupt. I don't think that's a performance limitation, that's just a bug in the renderer.

Ianbell in his stream with the aussie guy said that it's a hardware limitation by the consoles! He even went to say that it's probably the best they can do considering that physics, dynamic weather, livetrack3.0 already take too much cores!
Seems it's a compromise we need to live with, if we want the other features!
But yeah, even still with all that, it doesn't change my opinion that it looks horrendous on my ps4 pro.

Audio still super flat and the mix all over the place still....

No downsampling on PS4 Pro at 1080p. Coming from GT Sport it’s hard to look at now!

Doesn’t Microsoft have this on the Xbox?

I would have most certainly refunded my purchase on this game. It’s not ready.

I purchased the deluxe edition which on the store is £74.99. It’s annoying as the game most likely won’t be fixed until it’s on sale which then can be had for a third of the price. I don’t normally get sucked in by the hype but I was hopeful it would build upon project cars which I hold dear.

This game is so pre-beta even now. If we ever see graphical improvements that only solidifies my thoughts.

20 min would not be enough to load one race in PC2 :D :D
But seriously, I'm enjoying PC2! Has some bugs but in general I think it's a very good title.

No downsampling ? I thought it was ?! Are you sure about that ?

Very intrigued and happy that Ian Bell says they’ve found a fix for greatly improving the graphics on PS4 and should be coming in a later patch.

Should hopefully please a lot of people and ease the criticisms of the look of PC2 compared to the competition (and even PC1)

Where did you see that?
