Yes i believe your computer is what we experts call "dated".

Pretty much all of it needs replacing, so as GTRacer said you might just be better off buying a new PC.

Hold on now, before we convince him to drop $3,000 on a new system, lets find out what he uses his computer for shall we?

I mean, if he's just using it for say....email, spread sheets, internet, etc...then he's probably just fine with what he has. :) On the other hand, if he plans on playing F.E.A.R. or any of the other new titles for PC, then yes, let's start talking about hardware upgrades.:mischievous:

He said he wants an upgrade, so any new PC would be an improvement ;).

I guess the first thing to do would be research what high performance CPU and RAM will be compatible with your motherboard.

Well, in light of that.... If your looking into 3D performance for gaming, Upgrade your Video Card first. This could be the highest AGP performance card that your MOBO will support. Does your MOBO support 8X AGP? This would be your quickest, and most noticeable upgrade. Next I would tackle your CPU, Hard Drive, then ram.

I would recommend changing socket types to a 775 (Intel) or a 939 (AMD). Buying a new motherboard with PCI-Express would be entirely a great idea. Then just get a budget cpu, budget DDR2 ram, and a budget decent PCI-Express Graphics card. Most of your funds should lean on the graphics card and motherboard. When you do find some extra cash upgrade the other components to better standards. 64bit processing should be high on your list of things to get, considering Vista will be out within the year. Sata optical drives and hard drives will benefit your cause as well, but stick with the updates I forementioned before draining your bank account.

the WD disk, the DVD-ROM, and RAM has JUST BEEN installed on the computer. But I'm really thinking about swapping for a bigger CPU like 2.8 GHz, but I cant swap the MOBO at the same time, because I have a limited budget. I'm not looking foward PCI-Express because it costs a freakin much (ATi Radeon's PCI-E costs alot here in Quebec).

But anyway, I dont want to get an extreme pc for gaming and things like that, I just need a smooth environnement without having CPU lags and ****s I dont like. I'm not a PC gamer because most of the games I play on PC are principally on PS2. I pretty much use my computer with alot of ram, like I use alot of tabs in Firefox, I run Winamp 24/24, etc... Its pretty much what I do.

So, graphically, it would be the last on the list because my graphics are good for the games I play (Sims 2, UT2004), and even DVD's are ok. MOBO I would think that if I want to swap to 775, that would be an option but here 478 cost alot less than 775. Also, CPU is probably the next big thing as I read into yall messages. What CPU you guys would recommand me ???

Get a ATi X850 Pro for around $200 from newegg. Then overclock your CPU. Run that for a while, then replace your CPU when you feel you need to.
