But it's still taking away from GT being a realistic game, tuning JGTC car to 900Bhp can be done in real life, it just isn't something you would expect to see, some people drive f1 cars in real life, but never, not even once has a single race track been mirrored in real life, it's not even possible unlike racing a track backwards which is possible.

Lol @ this argument. The way I see it, you can buy a garage full of a one of a kind concept car or race car. I don't see how that's any more realistic than having mirrored tracks.

And you can drive Formula 1 cars on city streets where they get airborne. Heck, the tracks aren't real - who gives a flying flip if you mirror something that doesn't exist?

I think you're being difficult just for the sake of being difficult.

I think you're approaching this from the wrong angle. Who cares if it has never been done in real life? How is that relevant in any way?

The issue I have, is that once you get used to the sequence of events, it's the same for the right-hand and left-hand versions. Apricot Hill Mirror is still going to have that long, decreasing-radius sweeper at the end of the front straight... it'll just be to the right, not the left. That strikes me as adding the tedium of having to learn a mirrored set of reactions, just to arrive at the same amount of enjoyment you already have. Why bother?

You know, hadn't thought about it like that. Still, as a simple option which wouldn't be too terribly difficult to program, it would add a bit of change.

What I would find more appealing is my random track generator idea. You take a bunch of unique corners, throw them in a bag, shake it up, pour them out and connect them with short straights and gentle bends. Instant random track.

Hang on - I just realised we're talking about two different things here.

By mirrored, I assumed you meant 'run the other way', but I think you mean actually mirrored, in that if a corner sequence was left right left, the mirrored version would be right left right, with the cornering speeds the same.

I very much doubt GT4 will resort to mirroring - there's no precedent for it in the series - but I think what you will see is:
- shorter 'club' versions of circuits (Grand Valley East and Autumn Mini Ring being prior examples)
- tracks run in the opposite direction (and there's plenty of examples of that).

Mirroring would be an interesting exercise from a driving point of view - really, your fastest time should be identical for both courses - but the influence of being right or left handed might come into play.

Yeah, I don´t think gt4 will feature mirroring, it was an option anyway...

As for the gt2 issue, I tend to see it like command & conquer. It was mt first RTS and afterwards came better games, but C&C 1 retained it´s magic. It´s the same with gt2 although I put it in a higher shelf since I still consider the game one of the best around.

I believe you are on the same page now, except for your "R L L" example being in error (:

Yes I believe it is highly unlikely that anything like this will be added to GT4 (GT5 maybe if the brothas at PD read GTPlanet or I email them or something). I also agree that it isn't that different from the normal course, except that it LOOKS different - this can add a touch of added play time.

As for it being realistic or not, I don't care. It is very possible that someone would build a mirrored track just like an existing one. Likely? No not really.

I can see what your getting at but theres a 99.99% chance that mirrored tracks will never be in a GT game, they would also take up twice the space, PD would need to modell the track again rather than use a RR stye of just mirroring PD would NEED tyo get all the adverts the right way round on hoardings and on barriers ect, so Grand valley would become two tracks.

Actually they could just flip the values of one axis (since it is vector) and not flip the images. Badaboom - mirror track.

Then the images wouldn't fit the track right would they? Also theres alot of textures for the PS2 to work out which ones to flip and which ones not to flip, the adverts are the same as the textures on a wall, and if none of them flipped you'd have one messed up track. Besides even if it's not hard to do, I still would put money on it never appearing in a GT game short of unofficial mods if any are done for future GT's.

I personally thought GT3 was rubbish! Great grpahics but where have all the cars gone? Even tho i have a PS2 I still play GT2, and i get used to the choppy graphics and dont really mind them, as compared to other Racign games from GT2's time it is the best one out there (for PS1)

GT3 lacks the cars GT2 had but I think it easilly makes up for that by it's far superior quality, the championships, the handling, the better sounds ect.

Flipping vector is very simple. I see no issues making mirrors of tracks.

GT3 rubbish? What cheap crack did someone sell you? Just because it has fewer cars doesn't make it a crappy game.

sounds like a case of GT3 to GT2 e-penis envy

GT2 was a great game, it brought GT to a new evolution. GT3 broke the graphics boundaries and hopefully GT4 will be the evolution that GT3 needs. . . btw I do have a horrible secret :D

I too. I come here when I watch TV. I watch way the hell too much TV. :D

I've been in-between new games of GT2 and GT3 for the past three months now.

GT3 has the graphics, yes, but GT2 has the cars. This 7th game of GT2 still makes me play around with cars I've either never used, or hadn't tinkered with very much.

It hasn't been easy, but there's lots of wierd, ugly, slow, and rare stuff to play around with...

'97 Alto Works
'94 Prelude VTEC
Lancia Delta HF Integrale
'64 Lotus Elan S2
Citroen Xantia Exclusive
Lexus GS400 (funny how I'd never driven them much...)
Nismo 270R
Renault Clio Sport (loved this car in my first game, hasn't used it for about 3 years!)

Yes the graphics are terrible comparted to GT3, but you get used to them. You can gain prize cars in no time, and build a ton of money in no time. If only you could get the 200 car garage in this game, and not GT3.

I'm playing GT3 here and there, but I won nearly every prize car in GT3, so I'm playing with strictly store-bought or prize (road) cars that I never used the first time around.

GT2's still got the character, and a reason to go used car shopping. I miss that in GT3....lots of marques with one make doesn't impress me.

Anyway, I've played the heck out of GT2, so there aren't many surprises for me to find, but then again, the predictability of GT3 is making me hunger for GT4.

PD's had a few years to get this one right, so expectations are quite high for most of us...

I like the list of cars you had. I always started both GT1, and GT2 with the 94 Prelude VTECH Honda. Your list is missing one great car, though. The Demio A-Spec (GT2). Fullly tuned, this car gave cars with 200 more HP a run for their money.

Now that the unofficial, but most likely to be true, word is GT4 will be delayed until late Fall, PD had better make this game 100% perfect. I didn't wait all this time for similar GT2, and GT3 flaws to reappear.

Dont forget that awesome sound! Trust me, no other car "wails" like the Demio :)

Cool! Finally, someone here who loves the sound of this awesome little car! 👍

I've been saying that for a long time, now. It's good to see someone agree with me!

You rock! 👍

:D

yeah itd be nice, but i sometimes like the classic gt2 more than the others cause it had so many little nooks which you keep discovering

I think GT2 is still a very good game. To be honest, I've been playing GT2 for a month now (yeah, I know, I desperatly behind schedule....lets say 5 years!) and I'm used to games with much better graphics than GT2 on my PC, but GT2 knocks them all out with it's cool gameplay and not-too-bad graphics. The cars are recognizable as the ones the represent and that's good enough for me!

And by the way, those GT3-graphics are hurting my eyes.....they really do!!

"without those million race series at 20 laps each."
one of the things I hate most about GT3...

One car that I can't believe they didn't take to GT3, the Sileighty. That car, I had it tuned to 300hp or so, and I was beating 400, 450hp races. Not only that, but I drift, and this is one of THE drifting cars.

Just read this thread having totally coincidentally started playing GT2 again the other day (just ordered GT4 Prologue as I am in the UK, so need to do something while waiting!)... Got to admit, for sure the gameplay in GT2 is fantastic, and the sheer diversity of novelty cars (especially if you love JDM cars) is second to none... I'd mirror the majority here I think, cross GT2 with GT3, and hopefully the result will be GT4!

Good gamin' to all of ya :D

D.
