My next car will be a SKYLINE! But which one?

i have actually tested this at the special stage route 5 in a time trial style. best time wins. The second hand R34 GTR '99 is the best, it beat all of my other skylines incluing the gran turismo R34 GTR, R33's and R32's. fully modified I can out-drag many fully modified le mans cars down the circuit de la sarth I (the one without the walls in the middle) back straight, in two player mode meaning its running on sports tires with them on racing tires. deserves major respect.

Maybe you should adjust the gears on the LeMans cars. A 900hp road car with the aerodynamics of a Skyline CANNOT outrun a 1200hp race car designed for running 220mph.

Oh, arcade mode. No wonder. The LM cars are probably hitting the rev limiter at 235.

buy a skyline 2000GT-R (KPGC110) '73 (buy in 80's used car lot) it only apears twice in the 100 day cycle so look out for it, I'll edit this post when I read my diary thingy & tell you what day I bought it on, anyway, fully tune it, it handles like nothing you've ever driven, fair amount of power, (over 250hp fully tuned) you can't win it, you have to look out for it in the 80's used car lot

I bought it on:
24, January, Year 10
I use PAL version of GT4 (european version)

What is it with the Blitzen? is it a skyline it has four doors and the wheelbase is longer. Also you cannot fit a wing to it it says it cannot be fitted with a wing when it has a massive ledge on the back, fit for a wing.

Yea, of course it's a Skyline. 4 Door versions of the Skyline are avaliable across the model range apart from the GT-R (excluding the special 4 door R33 GT-R of course).

My favorite setup right now is to buy a new/used R34, "lightly" mod it (oil change, stage 3 weight reduction, carbon driveshaft, and R2 tires...add port polish, rigidity refresher, and engine balancing for used models...power mods to bring them to 350hp), turn off all aids, and just attack courses like the Nur. Capable of running under 7'20" on the 'Ring (don't think it'll break 7, but maybe I just suck).

Actually the powerband isn't as bad as it seems, but the redline fools many people. The peak power and torque are found in about the same revs as in a normal GT-R, but the redline is 1000 rpm higher. In other words, drive it like a regular GT-R and shift at 7000 rpm (where the redline normally is) - it will get a lot better.

The car also has very tall gearing, which increases the sluggish feel. Throw in a close ratio gearbox and it will fly.

Personally, I have all white Skylines. I also favor the Skyline M-Spec Nur. It has 1 less PS than the V-Spec II Nur, but it also has more torque and is not as peaky as the latter. It also handles better than the V-Spec II Nur.

Based on this experience, I'd say grab the '73 Skyline from the Historic car lot. :sly:

Screw the new ones and their fancy computer controlled 4WD! :yuck:
Oh, and whichever one you buy, don't modify the hell out of it, you'll only be disappointed. 👎 Race stock! 👍

Can the All Japan GT Championship be won with a skyline?

or do i need to go for something with more power?

Yes it can, and no way! More power is not necessary! :banghead: Here's the proof! :D

*edit* Actually, my bad :dunce: I just realised you meant the GT Championship with JGTC cars, not the Japan championship with mildly modifed Skylines, RX-7s and Supras. Sorry. :guilty: Enjoy the reports all the same! :)

Well dont race it completely stock, just add the racing exhaust that sounds scary at 5000rpm and below, racing chip, the engine modifications, MAYBE a bigger turbine, and just a sports intercooler. I definately would reccommend leaving the LSD, and VCD alone. Why? because the ATTESA-ETS AWD system in the R34 Skyline GT-Rs are the most advanced LSDs you can get out there (for circuit racing anyway), also the torque is distributed very nicely, probably perfect. The suspension is up to you, you dont need to change it, I liked it stock, but I still put the Racing Suspension in there, but set pretty soft. I also only put in the racing susp. was because I didnt want the car to dip so much or crouch during high speeds. The clutch, flywheel, and carbon driveshaft you should get, as well as reducing weight. Skylines are notorious for being heavy. You really don't need a spoiler on the Skyline. Actually, you dont need to install a spoiler on ANY car, unless it already comes with one (race cars)

Would you happen to know if any of those Skylines that you can buy from the Nissan garage have seven speeds? For winning some race I had acquired a Skyline LM Race Car and it has seven speeds, so I'm looking for others. That seven-speed model blew me away since I thought that only the F1 cars in the game had that many speeds. It is so smooth to drive and is easy on tires.

Done. Now, the only thing is trying to decide what color to get it in! LOL. I'm thinking the Jade Metallic or Silica Breath Metallic ... hmmm.

When in doubt, get a black car. This will go well with any of the other special black cars you get in the future. You will never regret getting black, it's a conservative colour. Other colours you might consider are silver and red, but only if it's a solid, primary red or nice metallic silver, not a dirty kind, like most of the white paintjobs in the game. Yellow is another great colour to get, but it has to be a good primary yellow, not bananna or canary, the blue and red must be well balanced in it, with a slight tendancy toward the warm end of the spectrum. :sly:

Carbon R from the Tuners. Its the only skyline i have anytime for.
Carbon body very light. Nice to drive looks like the dogs danglers.

I have always wondered about this car, but never got one to try. Is it really super-light? Does it own?

I agree with this guy. I love the M-Spec NUR. The Mine's Skyline is also an awesome car.

Also, I prefer white or blue Skylines, never really liked the Millennium Jade color.

The Nismo 400R is'nt really that fast, it can just about stay ahead of Subaru Imprezas with the same horsepower, I sense a comparison ;)

Gumball-AMG
the nismo 400r or the pacecar :D

Both of those are prizecars though, the 400R for Japanese 90's Challenge and the Pacecar for Real Circuit Tours.
I think his initial request was for a recommendation for a Skyline that he could purchase either new or used.

Since in about the 3rd post Kent made a recommendation that DrewCCU accepted in the 4th post, the rest of this thread is now a little redundant, don't you think?

Ok . . . After searching the site and coming up with multiple threads I’m choosing this one to revive as oppose to starting yet another thread on Skylines.

Yes, it is a little over a year since the last person posted in here. But this thread contained some information and statements that I was hoping to build upon to find out what I was looking for.

Now getting to the heart of the topic. Skylines: Which one to get?

For the basis of this discussion, let’s use the cars available in the used car lot only.

R-32’s, R-33’s and R-34’s come in 3 available performance models.

GT-R GT-R V-SPEC GT-R N1

Now from what I have read through The Wiki. That’s also how they stand in order of overall performance

But is this actually true in the game?

I have run my GT-R against my GT-R VSPEC on quite a few tracks. (100% stock, oil change and chassis refreshed.)
And I would say that on the majority of the runs the GT-R beat the VSPEC. The times would very between 3 seconds at the high end to .05 at the closest.

Has anyone else run into this?

A pretty thorough detailing follows.

R32
GT-R: The base model, the lightest, but also the one with the worst tyres and suspension. The lightest of all GT-R Skylines.
GT-R N1: A version aimed for track use, equipped with different turbos and other minor equipment changes.
GT-R V-Spec: A refined model with a bit more weight, larger wheels and better suspension, and higher power output.
GT-R V-SpecII: An even more refined model with slightly wider tyres than the V-Spec. The best one out of these.

R33
GT-R: Again the base model.
GT-R N1: A similarly track equipped one as the R33 N1.
GT-R V-Spec: A refined model featuring better suspension and a more sophisticated four wheel drive system. The best one out of these.
GT-R V-Spec LM Limited: Just a V-Spec built to celebrate the Le Mans success of the GT-R.

R34
GT-R: Again the base model. The drivetrain of the R33 V-Spec fitted as stock.
GT-R V-Spec: A similarly refined model as the R33 V-Spec.
GT-R V-SpecII: An even more sophisticated fast car, with technical improvements here and there.
GT-R V-SpecII N1: A similarly track equipped car as the R32 & R33 N1, based on the V-SpecII.
GT-R V-SpecII Nür: A special version of the V-SpecII, featuring better turbos and some interior changes. The best one out of these.
GT-R M-Spec: Something of a luxury GT-R, featuring a slightly softer suspension than the V-Spec and a leather interior. Technícally similar to the V-Spec.
GT-R M-Spec Nür: Like the V-SpecII Nür but built out of a M-Spec. The heaviest of all GT-R Skylines.

The Nismo models
GT-R S-Tune: The ultimate R32, it comes with a high revving engine and a very responsive handling. Based on the R32 GT-R V-SpecII.
400R: The ultimate R33, with loads of power in the lower revs but a bit asthmatic top end. Based on the R33 GT-R V-Spec.
GT-R R-Tune: The ultimate R34, pretty similar in style to the S-Tune but handles like the R34. Based on the R34 GT-R.

My personal favourite is the S-Tune, combining the handling of the old school R32 to the technology of today. It's pretty hard to drive really fast though, the best models for beginners are the R34's thanks to their more docile cornering characteristics.

Her's some pictures of real-life Skylines:
