My obsession with the Nordschleife (Assetto Corsa)

Should there be reading 7:36?
I wish but I am not that good. :scared:I compare with the RSR times of PC players. Fastest time is 7:45. No idea how Daniel Perez managed to do that. Kudos for him.

Under 8 minutes was my goal. Give it a try. If you get <7:50 a (virtual) price is awaiting.

I think you refer to the Youtube length of the video? I noticed that too but no idea why YT vids are seconds shorter?? Or the timer of AC (PS4) is not correct? Then I need my calibrated TagHeuer watch besides me to log the real time ;)

I think you meant under 7:50, right? :D

I haven't driven the Cobra on the Nordschleife in quite a while. It's one of my favorite cars to drive. So unpredictable if you lose the slightest bit of concentration. There's no way that I could come close to your time, especially considering I've been getting worse/slower as a driver over the past year. :boggled:

RSR Live Timing used to be a very competitive place. You'd see pages and pages of lap times for even the least popular of car/track combos. The last 12-14 months it seems to get used less and less. Off the top of my head, I can only guess that people would get frustrated with just about each version change. Usually, RSR would reset the entire leaderboard because if tires or physics have been changed...well, then it's not fair to compare times from previous builds any longer, ya dig? But then, there would be an update that should require a reset of the leaderboard, but for some reason they wouldn't reset it.

Even right now if you mouse-over the I for info at the end of each player's entry, you'll see which version of Assetto Corsa they were using when they set that particular time. It's at the very bottom of the pop-up. On the link that you provided for the Shelby Cobra/Nordschleife combo there are entries from 1.11.3 through 1.14. Off the top of my head I can't tell you what the differences are of each version. Some upgrades don't touch the tire model or physics at all. Some do. So, let's say it's been determined that v1.14 has slowed the cars down by a full second or two, how the hell is anyone ever going to catch the current leader of the Cobra/Nordschleife combo who set his record on v1.12.3?

As we all know...Lap times are s00per srs bizness. And honestly, some of the people in the top 1% would get cranky about it. You'd have people intentionally not upgrading their copy of Assetto Corsa just so they could keep grinding away on the older, faster version of AC. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to be able to say, "I have the current world record for the Cobra/Nordschleife combo, beyotches!" But, records come and go and we all know Assetto Corsa's an ever-changing racing sim. What they probably should have done is created a drop-down selection that has every version of AC listed. When you choose a particular version of AC, you are given the leaderboard with only drivers of that particular version.

I'm sure that's not the only reason RSR has tanked in popularity, but I have spoken to a few top of the 1% Alien drivers who have told me explicitly that's why they stopped running the RSR application. I wish they could just add Leader Boards for the console version. :boggled:

Thx! Phew luckily I could quickly edit the time from 8:50 to 7:50. Otherwise it would be too easy to achieve for @OdeFinn ;)

As a PS4 player I just use (PC) RSR as a rough guideline/estimate time. Because RSR and AC-leaderboard.com are the only two for reference indication and hopefully AC2 gets a integrated leaderboard? I don't see it happen for AC1 anymore but hopefully I am wrong.

Altough I am a 1%-er in another two wheeled passion/life I try not to compare myself with the top 1% of the AC alien racers. Not even the top 5-10% :nervous:
Sometimes I set a good or eventually best time but probably that's because the combo is not that interesting for the real racers (I think)
E.g the 595SS at Nordschleife. I also take part in some time trial challenges and most of the times I am somewhere in the middle. Depends on the car-track combo if its above the middle or way below the middle. But as long I have fun then it's okayish.

I also use thesetupmarket.com as a guideline if no other setup is available. I select the version as close as possible to PS4 - 1:14 then I try to tinker a little bit to my own comfy which 99% work out in the wrong direction :dunce:.

This is an excellent idea! Have you mentioned it over in the rsr timing thread http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/i...ve-timing-v2-0-027-new-version-available.606/

I use rsr the same way that BrainsBush does which is mostly as a general gauge because there its the only leaderboard for ac. But my results are taken with a grain of salt because I have spoken to a few (much) faster racers and they won't use rsr timing. i have also seen their times when i race them. On some combos that I have the WR for, I have seen people beat my time by a second!

I drive a lot on the Street Fight servers and they run ptracker and stracker so I can peak at the alien times... http://managerdc5.rackservice.org:5...ks_toyota_ts040&valid=1,2&date_from=&date_to=

Pfff in stead of going to the gym I increased the FBB and took the Shelby Cobra around Nordschleife. Sweating all over and both my arms are pumped.
Work out session of 7:56:442. I'm exhausted

Nice combos include:

F40 or Yellowbird / 10C or 50F temperature / 90s Street Tires / Green or lower / Whatever time you'd prefer -- Just don't forget to be wearing one of these:

Watch the vid to see if you owe me a  BrainsBush :D

What track condition you're using, is there any assist on car?
Gonna check that combo, I have one lap around Nordschleife with cobra under belt and there's space for many other to do. :)

All assists off. fuel consumption, tire wear/blankets on. Damage 100%, stability control 0%
If car has ABS then I turn only that on to factory. TC off. So in this case no ABS and TC
Track condition is optimum.

Have fun!!

Building setup, test runs flat 8, I'm with H-shifter and clutch. Car is fun and setup is going on nice direction, only thinking should I lose bit of fun and run longer final than stock, stock gives just perfect kick on driving :)

What about ambient temperature and time of day? Those have an effect on the track conditions too.
MOst of the times is my default 26 degrees celcius and time of the day 2PM. Is that the best selection?

Just did the Abarth 595SS challenge again and lowered the temp to 20 and time to 11AM. New time 12:22:438. Is that because of my driving skills or because I changed temp and time? I think I already know the answer ;)

Probably a bit of both. If you go too high or too low with the temperature your grip will suffer but both 20 and 26 are pretty much in the sweet, 20 might be slightly better than 26. Time of day makes a small difference but nothing drastic and usually within +/- 2 hours of noon are the best for grip. Plus you have muscle memory building up and every time you sleep your brain creates new connections for what you learned that day which makes your performance better.

I must admit I prefer driving convertibles because the view is just unbeatable. And the cobra is my most driven car according to rsr timing. It's such a beast!

I did that lap with a green track at 10C @1800hrs. I like how the sunlight/shadows dance everywhere.
I didn't quite make it under 8 min but pretty damn close. I'm sure I can shave quite a bit of time with optimal track conditions. I'll give it a go one of these days.

Well, if you're just at about 8 min, I'm sure I'd be much higher than that. I'll give it a try in a little bit. See how I do. :)

@BrainsBush not a pretty lap, it was "test" how my current setup works and let my internal anger take control because little BEE was asking it. :)
Tune is wip state, not far from satisfied final but still something missing.
If you want to look enjoyable smooth driving, then don't look this, this was more of smashing kerbs, rolling grass and bending radiator with right foot.

One lap onboard+replay (..and wall crash on start of second lap..)

Edit: bit more smoother lap after that

Your crash on the beginning of Lap #2 -- I crash there pretty much every single time I drive the nordschleife. That rear left tire hits the grass and it's spin city. Grrrr I can't stand that! I love the Shelby Cobra S/C so much. I was smiling watching you speed toward Aremberg on Lap #1. The car gets really nervous just before that braking zone. I've crashed there a lot too.

The Shelby Cobra S/C was actually a free downloadable mod from Race Department and then Kunos snatched up the rights to it and hired the creators. The modders who built the Cobra actually made 3 different Shelby Cobras. :D The Cobra S/C that is official content, a base Shelby 427 Replica with a 5-speed transmission that has about 75hp less than the Cobra S/C and then a Cobra Competition model that has about 20hp and 20Nm Torque more than the Shelby Cobra S/C. I mostly drive the S/C, but occasionally I'll take a different model out for a quick thrashing.

Bee? it's more a riding banana. A couple of extra laps and you are below 7:50

Sliding banana boat.. :)
Have to combine anger and smoothness on single lap and stay calm thru whole lap, then it's doable even with current setup, other easier way is longer final and few laps to get familiar with it and extra top speed will pay out really quickly.

@ALB123 this banana boat is just too fun to drive and doing lap without having fun is hard, some places fun costs time and some it just gains. Crazy tradeoff with fun and seriousness.. Uhh

Searched YouTube for cobra/nurb combo to see how others are doing and found this:

"Nothing" special, except nailed all corners, only weird was his gearing, probably bit longer final because he didn't hit on limiter at back straight, but RSR gives "same" 253 kmh top speed which is achievable on stock final on downhill after "bilstein". Still all small gears were acting as stock final, maybe it's because of physics or something.

Edit, watched again and he's definitely on stock final, it hits limiter as it does nowadays.

Wow....I keep crashing this damn thing. I don't know what my problem is, but I can't seem to keep her on the road. I'm going to have a look at the Setup Market for Shelby Cobra setups...then see if I'm any better with control. :grumpy:

Try to avoid full throttle and upshift earlier? I will check but I think that for final I gave it two clicks to the right? Also in corners I keep driving in 2nd or 3rd gear. Not sure if this is the way to go but at least I could keep this beast on the track

After watching that WR lap video several times, I have convinced my internal Zen to be on master role on next time when taking laps with Cobra. Daniel Pérez just had perfect Zen to push Cobra gently thru lap, I need piece of that Zen to cut seconds out from my drive. Daniel just hymns peacefully thru lap.. :)

Yeah...I try to make do with lower RPM torque because she can really get angry in the upper RPM range. Still, I think I've got to make better use of that method of driving. I either need to start braking earlier, or remember to go back into 3rd gear if I'm downshifting into 2nd gear on several parts of the track. I usually move the brake bias toward the rear wheels by 1%, maybe 1.5% since I can't seem to find that threshold point with the default setup and I lock'em up too frequently. Ugh...I need to change so much about my driving, but I do love this car. :D Especially on this track! :) I haven't made any other changes to the setup...Maybe I should look into tuning this snake.

@ALB123 my brakes are set first to so much toward rear at it will swing tail on side and then one click toward front and it's there, maximum possible brake to rear without upsetting car.
Do you happen to know the exact setting? Does it tell you the exact percentage of bias to the front brakes? On the PC the Shelby Cobra starts off at 66% front brake bias). The lowest it can go is 40%. How much do you guys turn down the front bias?

Any other basic suggestions you have, @BrainsBush or @OdeFinn? Are you guys adjusting the Differential? Since I almost always use the stock dampers/suspension setup I will usually jump right to the Alignment section. But I was even leaving that at the stock settings yesterday. I really need to analyze my driving more closely. I created a very basic setup for this car about one year ago, it was for a much different layout (Lake Louise), the subtle changes I made were awesome! I don't remember what I did - I since lost all my tunes when I forgot to back them up - it wasn't much...I need to find that subtle tweak for the Nordschleife too.

It depends on your rest of setup, move bias more to rear till it's too much there and then just a bit back toward front. Good balance definition for me is able to brake heavy on straight and during cornering trailbreaking minimal pressure reduce will turn car more in corner.
Btw. I'm around 90% brake pressure (if recalling correctly, can check when home).

My setup is done mostly on dampers, basic alignment on wheels, minimal tyre pressure changes, small rake tweak, small LSD tweak and lot of damper tuning.

Videos are with stock differential, tested few rounds with longer final and my setup needs changes for it, 7:57 on first try with click or two longer.
