I'm not so hot on woodwork, but are there any braket type things on the inside of the steering column? Surely they'd keep it secure if you had one on each inside.

EDIT

Oh and they both look really good! đź‘Ť

I'd make one if i had the room for it, and if i didn't have a comfy pc chair to use for it.

ya, you can see in my top pic that i put an "L" shaped bracket to keep things steady. I just have to find a sollution for the steering column to not move front to back.

Oh i see now :)

I guess you could do roughly the same idea, but with maybe a bit of wood going diagonal to the frame on each side.

EDIT

I tried a few ideas:

The first one is the wood diagonal to the base of the steering column.

Another is the Support beams going backwards towards the seat.

The other is pulling the steering column forward with 3 bits of strong rope.

Hows that :)

I think if i put the wood going from the top of the column to the frame toward the seat. that should solve my problem.
I'm actually afraid to drive on le sarthe because on the straight, Im afraid the column will get damaged. :scared:

WHAT A GREAT COCKPIT YOU HAVE ! I would like to do the same thing for me, would you give me the dimension (lxhxp). What kind of wood have you bought ?
kind regards
stephane

Ok man. I like that cockpit so i made one. I just made it in like 2 hrs before my dad came home because he would kill me if i was using his presious wood lol. Im wicked tired and its a ***** to get up stairs into my room. It was really painfull.

Sorry i couldnt post the dimensions sooner. Mine was also a pain to get upstairs :ouch: .
I just added some wood going from the steering support to the frame. It worked out well. The pedal board is nailed from the front to the frame and the rear part of it has nails on the top and bottom side(sort of sandwhiching the board between nails.)
Im surprised it took you 2 hours to build one! Id love to see some pics! :)

Thats pretty good for 2 hours of work. All it needs is some paint and it will look great. nice job đź‘Ť

Here's an idea:

Find a cheap and easy way to mass-produce these puppies. Then get a patent. Then sell them for $200 a pop. Start small. Then work your way up to 'corporate' status, then you'll be loaded.

*Use PVC to build the frame. It's lighter than wood, and not as flimsy as other materials. (Just an idea)

If, and when this ever works, give me a call.

My idea, so hook a brother up if you get loaded.

Please?

Hey Jedi09,

Look at the 1st picture on the first page of this thread. Do you see the piece of wood there that stablizes the steering column?

Seriously, mine is very strong this way, solid as a rock.

Here is that piece I am refering to:

Ya, i saw that. I also recently added a similar peice of wood. I just need to find the time to take a pic of it and post it. Its really sturdy now! đź‘Ť :D

oh wow, maybe i should make one of those.. just one question, where did you guys get your racing seats/chairs and that slider underneath.. and how do you fit the seat and the slider sooo perfectly into the frame?

The frame and sliders are directly out of a car. Just unbolt the seat from a car (or find a complete seat with sliders at a junk yard) and then bolt the whole assembly to your new cockpit frame.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Thats great, its my 100% sicilian background. And yes i make do with what i have. My small 13 inch tv in my measly closet. One day when i become a great engineer i will have a collosal closet to place my contration in lol. But yea speaking of my eyebrows my much more fashionable ept sister had me get a blowout and my eyebros done. I think i look good. And now she is trying to get me to pierce my other ear which i agree with though my parents dont.

I took my seat from a neighbor's drive way and ran like hell. :dopey:
actually, it was sitting on the sidewalk next to the dumpster and i desided to be a "good" neighbor and ask if i could have it since he was already throwing it out. That a$$hole made me pay $20 for it :grumpy:
I actually had to add wooden spacers under each end of the "sliders" because each of the legs were different heights.

That's an unjointed one piece frame , am I right ? You store with an upright and add the DFP and Seat . Need that rigidity .

I'm sure that it would be possible... Although I think it would probably be harder to get in and out of. Plus, it is already pretty heavy, I don't thinkI want to add any more weight.

Cheers,

Lyle
i agree, you dont want to go through the floor. howm uch did that seat cost? is it leather?

Ive been messing around with this design program and ive made the same thing that i already have with a few adjustments such as seat movement becuase my other one didt. The diferense if im making this one out of metal and it will be made in section, such at the base frame is four side to be bolted together. That way i can tkae it apart for storage. Becuase we all know how heavey those things are to move, and mine is so crappy id just break ti to moveit.
