Hi there

I have been following your rig updates albeit as a lurker. Not a stalker ...so no worries there :-) Just to let you know I am appreciative of your sharing and I have learned a lot from it as I consider my own build. I am looking forward to more of your updates

One question, is there absolutely no way to remove the bezels or significantly reduce the visibility of it? Are there no TVs or monitors that are without bezels or can be modified to remove them?

I know others have gone the way of projectors but...I'm stubborn I guess:-P

There is no way to entirely remove the bezel. There will always be a small black frame on the edge of the screen.

But your question made me search the and i found this video:

So thank you :bowdown:for giving me the idea for my next project:

Removing the outer bezel (the carbonfiber part in picture above)

This will reduce the bezel size with more than half ;)

Glad I helped in some small way :-P I just browsed through the electronics department store here and there are a number of models with really thin bezels for 2014. LG, Samsung, Panasonic... including the inner black border, my estimate is no more than 5 mm. very livable. Now just have to be patient and wait for prices to drop:-P

Congratulations mate!
I tried with my 32"'s way back but the case held everything together :irked:
So after I get the PC (end of the summer) the next thing will be monitors with a very thin Bezel :)

While the smaller the bezels are the better, they really do disappear from site once you start racing.

Yesterday evening i took down the 55" samsung UE55D7000 form the tv lift and took the bezel frame off
Without the frame the bezels have schrunk to only 5mm.

I really love those thin bezels, it's like having a entirely new tv

Looking forward to see that new cockpit Mark,
You will love simvibe on the PC :)

Lets see a before and after photo comparison!!:-)

To do a good before and after comparison i should have taken two identical pictures, but haven't done that sorry.

To give you some idea :

Before:

After:

At the moment i don't have any comparison photo's of the entire triple screen setup, sorry :)
I would be difficult to take picture on which you can see the difference of 10mm smaller bezels on a 250cm wide screen. I would have to take picture to far away other wise it doesn't fit on the camera.

fatkrakr is right, as soon as you start racing the bezels disappear. Because my middle screen is already pretty big, i hardly notice them at all. But smaller is always better :D

WOW that is a Significant difference!!!! good job guy!!

The sparco wheel is mounted on the Universal Hub. I replaced the original 4 red buttons on the wheel with 4 different coloured ones for better looks. The buttons on the wheel are also connected to the CSW, so i only added 2 extra button boxes. 8 buttons + D-pad and Rotary encoder is more than enough.

It feels great to be able to create your own wheel rim and be able to get good looking results. All you modders outhere will love the Universal Hub.

For the Clubsport handbrake i created a "quick-release" : It's connected with two handscrews to my desk. Right up there next to the wheel and 100% rock solid, which is needed for good operation of the HB.

Still have to get used to the different button configuration, compared to the BMW GT2 rim.
I accendially erased my Grid Autosport save game (over 25 hours) because i pressed the wrong button:banghead:

Here's a picture of my new addition, hope you guys like it:

One downside with the UH. The all black buttons. I guess I have to somehow figure out where I can get extra button caps from.
I am not so keen on the black buttons on a black box theme for a final result, although it might look worse on the pic than in real life.
That said I do prefer the all black theme as a base package being presented to the modder. All in all I just mean to say that Fanatec made a nice base soup stock, but we need to somehow add the flavouring. ;)

How do you like this Chis ?

I just compared the sparco with the BMW rim and it weighs 600gr less

This will be my dedicated "Grid autosport wheel" .
The wheel is light, fast and feels raw and snappy in combination with my own created GAS FFB mod.

What i like about this kind of wheel that feels great in touring cars but it also feels great driving the openwheelers

The BMW rim makes you feel kind of silly driving an open wheeler

Here's one more pict of the entire fanatec gear:

All I can say is that it makes this guy happy, Henk. ;)

Looks much more integrated into the rest of the wheel. What did you do?

I made perfect round stickers, just the right size and simply put them on top of the buttons.
I had to search long and hard for the little green dot, but finally found a 50cm long CASTROL sticker.

The sticker is still 50 cm long, but now has a tiny hole in it

Wheel hangers?

Btw. My hub arrived too. Its really nice and way better quality than my beta rims that I still used. I don't know where to put all the boxes though. I better take my time with this. The rotary encoder feels really nice!

Yep, Wheel Hangers

Take your time Chris and setup everything on your rim like you want.

The rotary encoders does feel nice 👍

Here you go...

The weight is 1.90kg vs the 2.13kg of the BMW rim. It feels much lighter than that in use though. Maybe because most of the weight is close to the center of the wheel. I am guessing the more weight at the edge of the rim, the more momentum the wheel gains and the harder it is to stop&return (a vibration is basically quick stops and returns (changes of direction)).

The light shifter paddles Are nice! I had to lower the mechanisms a notch closer towards the wheel, else I had to reach too far. Also I put the paddles the other side of the lever as they came on, and the outer screw holes at that due to the rim being 350mm rim in diameter.

I will have to look at making a horn button cable a bit later. The buttons are working the way I expected them to though, I already checked that. Referring to the pin layout.

Pin1: ground (black), Pin2: button1/left (green), Pin3: button2/middle (white), Pin3: button3/right (red).

All buttons are hooked up to 1 ground lead. Same with the encoder I think, there was only 1 black wire indicating ground after all.
Anyway, that's for later. I want to go to my local electronics store to see if they can make me a splitter cable.

The display was nice to. The hazy glass in front of it makes it look nice and sharp. Although I find it a bit small. So I can't weight for the phone attachment.

Apart from that I can't really say more about it other than this thing is extremely versatile. A must have for every enthusiast.
Oh and unlike with the BMW rim I did NOT notice any play without the screw on my CSW. It's really a properly tight fit (even though that's what she said). :sly:

Can't be happier with this purchase. :)

That is awesome. I love the UH, it works great. Trying to figure out how to get the paddle shifter closer to my GT2 Fanatec wheel.

How do I get the hub front cover off?

It's all in the manual, but 4 allen screws (with tiny washers. Don't lose them!) on the back. Than pull the front plate off, might be a bit tight and hard to get off at first. ;)
Except the extra screw holes to bring the mechanisms closer to the rim, will mail Fanatec to add that for future reference.

Where can we find these stickers as well?
