Lead car #15 under investigation for a potential pit violation, with just 8 minutes to go :scared:

54 second gap at the end of that lap... if it's a post race penalty... 30 secs?, 60 secs? Could be a race decider! That'd suck.

Doubt it will be more than 40 for that. Congratulations to Audi fans!

And Golf III fans as well😄

Just hope Kaz saw that and changes timing and scoring in GT7. Another car has got a 90 + penalty.

If the precedent is that a race result isn't changed post race for a safety violation that didn't gain any kind of advantage, I'd probably be okay with that.

Has anyone ever been to the Nurb 24h race? I'm thinking of trying to get tickets for next year.

Yes. Do it. Don't even give it another thought. It's the single greatest event in motorsport. Go for the full week of events before, camp next to the GP circuit for max convenience (short walk to facilities and Nurburg), free buses run around the circuit all event so you can get most places anyway. The people are great, the atmosphere is incredible, and having done the 24 hrs or Le Mans, Spa and Silverstone, I cannot stress how much better than those races the N24 is.

A brilliant event, and superb coverage online - really enjoyed this year's race.

Well not exactly superb online coverage for all of us. I'll have to wait until ADAC puts the race on their Youtube channel which I think is a few months away.

I was thinking that I'd like to get there the night before the race, but given the sheer scale of the place, I doubt it would be like Le Mans where you could wander to different parts of the track quite so easily. I don't think I'd go for a whole week - but an extra full day to go exploring would be great - what are the other events on?

When I went to the Italian GP at Monza, we went on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday (and didn't camp, just drove to the circuit each morning from Milan), and every day was completely different. Friday was in fact probably the highlight - you could go/sit anywhere and watching F1 cars practice was amazing. Sat and Sunday were fun, but it was nigh on impossible to get a good spot with a cheapo ticket like mine, though we did find a great spot for the race (the exit of Ascari) - but even that was nearly scuppered by latecomers barging to the front, armed with kids.

You can easily wander around the whole track which is very different to Le Mans where it just isn't possible. You can even take your Mountainbike if you want. There is a MTB-route around the Nordschleife running most of the time directly beside the track and over the camping sites. It is very difficult to attend the track during the race by car. Streets are completely packed. The german commentators even had to take the nap in their cars while the hotel was only 3 miles down the road. But no chance beeing back in the 3-4 hour window and getting sleep.

I attended the race multiple times as a fan and then working some years for /with Raeder/Manthey.

Getting a decent spot in the campsites and paddock access are the primary reasons to go early, followed closely by the machinery you will get to see that you might not otherwise. If you only attend for the race, the paddock (I believe) is closed. So if you want to have a mooch around, meet all the drivers and see all the cars, getting there early is a must. It also gives you the chance to check out a couple of spots early on. Figure out where you want to be at certain points in the race. For the start, you want to be in the Mercedes Grand Stand overlooking T1... breath taking isn't the word. By the Sunday a lot of the Nordschleife is post-apolocolyptic depressing, leaving visiting certain parts of the track to the sunday was bad, in my experience... you want to see it all before or during the Saturday night. Ending the race on the start/finish straight is also a must. The year I went the team I was cheering for didn't win, but I sill clapped every car home and cried like a seal on MDMA. I've done events like Goodwood FOS for the full duration, and by the last day, you've seen everything, done everything, and are just taking the same photo's you did the day before... 4500+ photos and 5 days at the 'ring, and I only saw half the track, missed a bunch of stuff and didn't want to leave. Le Mans felt hostile, Nurburgring felt like home.

edit: I also sustained an ankle injury I still have at Hatzenbach, and wrote off my car in France, alone, injured and broke, on the way home from the 'Ring, and it's till pretty much the last time I cried tears of happiness (shortly before swapping caps with a dutch fella I met in the Bratwurst queue, whilst I was avoiding talking to Martin Haven and Mat Neal, who were sat next to us, on the Thursday night).

I wonder what the viewing status in the US is for the 24 Hours race? I know the past few years Motortrend has had exclusive rights. Ironically I found out that I had never cancelled my Motortrend subscription so I thought here was a chance to finally use it but the race is not their website. Anyway they don't have a smart tv app an I really don't care anything about watching it on a computer if they were going to carry it.

Motorsport.com shows it on their TV site but again that's on a computer.

My understanding from a Motorsport discord I’m in is that US viewers will now be able to watch the race from this place?

I haven’t actually found the 24 listed, whenever I’ve gone to watch a live session when there’s supposed to be a Nürburgring session it’s been a feeder nascar race or regional formula series. P & Q have been free on YouTube so far, so I assume it’ll only get geoblocked once they’re actually racing?

Well if Motortrend no longer have the US rights then I don't know why there would be a geoblock for the US on the Youtube channel. But I don't know how all of that stuff works. Maybe it will be available on both the YT channel and this website? I guess we will just have to wait until Saturday to find out. But in the past the first hour or two were on the YT channel then got blocked.
