Post here you guys who drive GT5 and also have the Ring infection and are Ringers with or without DRT (Dedicated Ring toy) :

I started to drive the Nordschleife in 2006 with my stock Nissan 200SX S14A, 1998 -99 mod. with the SR20DET engine.
After a year i started to upgrade and change parts on suspension, brakes and tune the engine with FMIC, open air filter, Nismo 700cc injecors, bigger turbo, new ECU and and much more, until I got 305 WHP / 422 Nm on the rear wheels. All suspension parts and bushings was replaced, springs, shocks. The brakes was fenomenal with 343 MM X 32 MM vent. disc and 6 pot calippers from APRacing and 300ZX 297 MM 4 pot at the rear brakes. The car was easy and neutral in handling, slight understeer on turn in and lift off oversteer if you wanted to. ( I sold the car in 2011)

With good tires, Toyo R888 / Dunlop soft semislicks that car was incredible roadhugging and easy to drive up and beyond limits of grip. Top speed of 270 km /hour, which was rev limit at 7000 RPM, fifth gear.

In traffic at Toursitenfahrten I was able to drive up to 08:25 laps at the best (BTG) which is quite decent. Have + 200 laps there now and visting the Ring 3-4 times a year and a 1000 km drive from my place in Norway. Occasionally I fly down and drive rentals as well.

In GT5 I'm able to simulate the spec, of my old car and to set the same set up on the suspension, camber, toe, driveline and transmission and diff. weight and output.

Are the other "Ringers" here who drives the Nürburgring occasionally, please welcom to post here, experiences and how you compare the experience with the GT5. I'm very pleased how PD have managed tp simulate the ring to perfection, and "my" car feel realistic in GT5 too.

:-D :-D :-D

I live near it ,was last week there and drove two laps in my 120i.
Maybe going Sat or Sunday there again.

Great!!
My next trip will be the ADAC 24H weekend, this time as a spectator.
I drive quite often the Rent4Ring stage 2 and stage 3 suzkis and the OPC Corsa. Sold my car and looking for a new trackday tool ;-).

:):)

i'm living in germany (400km south of the ring) and also love to go to the real Ring and driving some laps.
I envy you, eddyac...
I am still in college and until i gain more money and have the time to build up my own
ring-racer, i will also keep doing laps in friends cars or rentals (rent 4 ring, the stage 2 swift is awesome!).
it's been a half year since i've been there, this is a video i made on one round
in an opel corsa opc (stage 1)

And the car are perfect positioned on the concrete banking. The wheels shall not be so low in the banking that you touch asphalt ;-). To high or to low is wrong :-D. In GT5 the blue line aid, is quite wrong compared to Ideal Line and also to the Racing Line at various sections on the Nordschleife in the game.

Another Ringer here ... done over 50 laps in my 328i Touring. Just love the track. Sadly I have 1000km to there too ... drive my car there, on the track and then home. Once did a lap on January 2nd - wet, cold ... :) Crazy.

I also did two laps in M5 Ringtaxi (once with Sabine Schmitz - experience of a lifetime :D).

And I also used it for my PSN ID :).

I will recomend Rentr4ring suzukis if you are new ther and don't have a car. The handling and roadholding are great on those little badgers. They have a Stage 3 tuned Swift, but only few whom they know can rent it, including me :-D I know the track very well now, so even a small Suzuki swift will easy outperform newbies and bigger hardware. You can nearly go flat out everywhere with them and at the rev limit/ fifth gear through Schwedenkreuss :-D. I will be driving ther during september for sure also.

you drive in the real ring like me in gt5.. :scared: 👍

Here is a link to Sport Auto's ideal racing line for Nordschleife : http://www.bbb-online.de/bmw-power/service/sportauto/nordschleife/nordschleife_1.html

For thos who drive there for real, there are several refernce point to use ther as sign, marshallpost etc. There are also painted white dots on the tarmac, but some are actually set a bit wrong on purpose, for turn in at Aremberg which is two car lengths late and at turn in entry for Galgenkopf, which is a car lenght to late too. This is done so drivers who don't know the track that well have to brake to get the speed low enough so they don't understeer off.

The banking of Aremberg are quite severe so a stiff sportscar or racecar will start to turn in earlier.

Wet line is a totalt different line, and can vary, but often not in the ideal or racingline. Especially braking for Wehrseifen, Aremberg and Bergwerk.

lol this is a good example how "slow" most of the kids making and playing this game are.You see all that screen shakes etc? That is because it is filmed with a camera, since in this game you aint a camera there should not be effects like that

Very interesting. Please do more 'real time' comparisons if you could - cars for GT5 that you drive in real life, and how exactly you feel the 'differences'. I have heard of many who drove a real car and then a similar virtual car in GT5 - and found it to be (depending on the simulation rig, of course) very close.

Thanks for the heads-up on the 'early" braking spots. It must be an amazing experience to drive the ring - I would be spending a lot of time and money on it if I was anywhere near Nürburg!

Also - I notice of course that many of you real Ringers either live close to the track or have some connection with the location: no doubt you have this discussion in a more Deutschlandic manner at other forums close to home?
Thank you for bringing it here, too.:)

Hope to hear more from you - with many pics, and further advice.

Cheers.
Harry.

I'm back sometime in May :dopey:
Me too, 5th & 6th May will be my first laps from 2012 :)
Did around 30 laps in total last year, I live 400km's from the ring. I don't consider myself as a very fast driver, not that I'm going slow, but not that fast neither :sly: I'm doing around 9.30 BTG in my stock (204bhp) MR2 turbo. Brakes and suspension are also stock atm, but I'm probably going to put some other pads & brake lines in it (nope, brake fade isn't fun). There's also another intercooler waiting to be put in to keep things a bit cooler back in there.
Hope that it doesn't end up last year ... When returning from the ring, my engine died ... badly ... 326km's from home :(

That's was my idea Harry, interresting to see how our cars are simulated in GT5 and the circuits. I tried to simulate my specs, gear ratios etc in GT5, and with Sport Medium / Hard tires, it is quite close to real. Traffic and different grip in the tarmac which is common at most tracks and especially at the Nurburgring, due to crashes, grass and dirt, leaves from thress and that the track can be wet at some sections and completely dry other places.. Spa Franchorchamps is another track which I haven't tried yet, but will do soon hopefully. Great that it's implementet in GT5 too now. Post your experiences her, your own car, GT5, layout etc.

Questions and hints regards Nordschleife also, I will to share the some of my experineces of that famous "Ring"

Here is a link to an old video, I would guess most of you guys have seen it before, but still just fantastic.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjEypd3c7AQ

Long time before "drifting" was a sport, Stefan Roser, test driver from RUF, drove this 1987 Yellow Bird round the Nurburgring Nordschleife sideways :-D.

Just watch how he have to counter oversteer and have fantastic car control.

:)

I've been playing with the idea to go driving the real Nordschleife one day. But I don't have a racecar nor money yet. What do you think how much racing experience is needed before going there first time?

In the opening hours for Touristenfahrten (toristdriving) the track is open for the public for street legal cars, with street legal tires. You can have big fun with a small hot hatch with upgraded brakes, or brake pads at least, low weight and some grunch in the engine. Your daily var will do also, but read your self up on info about the track: here is some info:

Opening hours:
http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/angeb...-nordschleife/opening-times-nordschleife.html

the GP F1 circuit is also open for public driving.

Info: http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/

Info and real laptimes: http://bridgetogantry.com/

"Ringers" : http://forum.nurburgring.org.uk/

Rentals: http://www.rent4ring.de/ www.rentracecar.de

Beaware that your own liability starts at 5000 euro on the insurance if you crash a rented car.

Good Luck :-D

It's recommended that you have some trackdays experience before you drive there for the first time. Minor crash will cost you easily 2000 euros and upwards for repair of armco, cleaning the tarmac for dust and grass etc..

Real racing: start with RCN races, Race Challenge Nurburgring, and with some experience from racing, try VLN langstrecken series. For the 24H race, you need to complete at least 3 VLN races, to get the 24H leicense. (I might be wrong here, so correct me if anyone knows better)

Like "Nissan 200SX" said, you don't need a +80.000€ race car to drive the ring.
Last year we had loads of fun in a 90bhp Xantia :D
The look on the people's faces at the start was priceless

Sorry to hear that. My biggest fear is that happening to me - car dying out on me while traveling back.

I drive about same time - 9:30 BTG in my 328i Touring (190BHP). I have customlower H&R Suspension and stiffer H&R Anti Roll-bars. It is a sweet thing to drive. And same problem with brakes as you - stock brakes are not fun. Since my "station wagon" has 1440kg empty and pushing over 1600kg with me and fuel it needs a lot of stopping power. Basicaly I need to replace brake discs and brake pads every time I return home from the Ring :). They are just overheated after a Ring weekend.

PS: One photo of me (I was pushing that Cayman all the way, but the M3 passed me later on ... :))
