NASCAR Driver Rage-Quits Esports Event, Loses Real World Sponsor

They are being compared to Rich Energy by many people, which is just plain dumb.

I haven’t even heard of them before this.

People need to stop trying to control how people behave in every facet of life. If I watched this live I probably would have laughed or thought what a tit, then laughed and left it at that. Society is trying to dehumanise people. I hope this dude tells people to get a grip and do one.

Well said. I guess the sticking point is the sponsorship agreement which sponsors nowadays means 'i own your life, if you do anything above being a drone for my wishes I will terminate you'.

I don't care for Nascar, but I'll remember Emu for being controlling dicks and I won't buy any of their ****** oil. Hope the marketing jocks are proud of themselves, actions like this can be seen another way.

There really is an issue with the whole emu-oil thing. The way I see it, these corporate cleansers are no longer able to kill the same amount of emus due to American dislike, and therefore are incapable of helping a war which has ravaged Australians for far too long :P

Boy, that was a hassle typing the letter 'e' with the on-screen keyboard. Need a bloody new one that my fat uncoordinated fingers can smash to bits. You never realise how common the letter 'e' is in the English language. There are 28 in this little snippet alone, if my counting is right.

Now that we've put iRacing on a pedestal, I'm looking forward to the Kyle Larson takes
Another not so smart move by a driver. We live in a pc culture now a days, i’m expecting tons of outrage. He will likely lose whatever sponsors he has.

What might save him is that it wasn't an official stream, just a bunch of drivers doing their thing.

Even so... wow.

Are you white, per chance?

If you are, I dare you to say the n word. With a hard R. In public, or in a stream. See how you feel about 'PC culture' when people are rightfully pointing out that you're a racist for saying such an ugly, disgusting word, with likewise connotations that are still present in Western society, even today. A word that has incredibly direct, and very offensive connotations and meaning towards a specific race

It's gonna be great to see how a majority white forum tries to dance around this topic, making it clear where their opinions on black people lie, especially considering that 'PC culture' is being thrown about already, when we are dealing with a race of people that are still being discriminated against, even today.

It's okay to say that in Halo?
Or Call of Duty, or PUBG, or Battlefield, or...

We live in a pc culture now a days, i’m expecting tons of outrage.
Dale Earnhardt himself saying it decades away from today's "PC Culture" would have still ended his career. Kyle Larson being stupid enough to say it when he knew was being watched is his problem, not a societal one.

Well, that's of course not true; but my actual point was that it's surprising that it's taken until now for someone to slip up on a public stream of an E-sports event now that they are so prominent with no real sports happening.

Anonymous online gaming events have been absolutely flooded with racial, sexual, homophobic and transphobic epiphets virtually since online gaming became mainstream for console players 15+ years ago, as borne out by the fact that a moron who happens (or happened, as it were) to be a professional racing driver just used one casually in a publicized E-Sports event as if he was playing on Xbox Live like he probably does when he's on Xbox Live.

Doesn't make it right.

Likewise, this is also an indictment on companies specifically, and the Sonys, Microsofts of the world, that their lack of desire to combat toxicity, and specifically sexual, racial, or gender based epithets flooding text/public voice chats, has been a detriment to online gaming to the point that within console video games at least, 99% of people playing online games will be in a voice chart party with themselves and their friends. Doubly so if they are apart of any of the three categories posited above.

At some point, something has to give.

Online anonymity has caused a lot of socially unacceptable behavior to become normalized. That doesn't make it okay, but it does make it so it's almost immaterial whether it is okay since the people doing it don't care and there's little to nothing to stop them from doing it.

This is unfortunately little different than if we were reading about how Kyle Larson made a death threat against a public YouTube uploader in the comments of a video but was too stupid to realize that he did it with his Google+ account instead of his YouTube one until after someone screencapped it.

I'm reminded of the big brouhaha that commenced when Nintendo said that there wouldn't be native in game voice chat within Splatoon 2. Of course, it was obvious then that the utter joke of an online service Nintendo expects you to pay was the culprit, but it served as a happy little accident considering that it more or less stopped people from being ****birds on the mic in an open lobby.

Of course, a somewhat low key, 'family friendly' third person shooter is a lot different then League of Legends, DOTA or, in this case, iRacing, but maybe more companies should do it if they aren't going to take the time to care about toxicity in their games, especially if they have a report function but don't bother to update players on how said reporting process works, or whether they are actually going to look at it instead of feeding it into an automated process.

This ****ing post man, I seen this yesterday and just laughed. You are exactly the type of person I was alluding to. Leave it to some SJW to preach to me how bad the word is like I already don't know.

No doubt what he said was STUPID. But to be perfectly honest, I think the one of the reasons why racism is still prevalent these days because of people like you always making it "a thing". You sound like the type to cry racism over anything, hell you probably think I'm racist for making this post.

The point still stands firm.

The fact that you double down by trying to accuse me of being an 'SJW' kind of says a lot about your view points on the world. I'm definitely the cause of racism and a guy saying the N word on stream without a care in the world, and not people like you who believe that they are the arbiters of what is considered racist towards minorities.

@Silver Arrows I think it's safe to assume you're black? African Canadian?

I am white. But I've read up on enough material on how systematic racism operates, both in the US, and in Canada to have a good understanding of the issue. Hell, I live in a place where police still actively discriminate and target Indigenous youths, and see the effects of it every day when you get outside the city lines with reservations.

Ultimately, I still benefit from the systems of whiteness when it comes the benefit of the doubt. Even with my own problems, I still have it better then the subsequent black, or Indigenous Canadian. But I can change, and I can fight for those that don't. And so can many others in this forum.

You are just giving me mroe ammo by making a post like this.

To be fair I said people like you are part of the problem, not the cause. And no I don't approve of langugae like this, that's just you making **** up in your head.

So after all that, a white man is telling other white men how they should act around non-white people. I know you come from a good place, but that's just funny.

Like honestly does this guy have nothing better to do then to preach to people here about something we already know. Just wow.

You misread my post. I wasn't aiming to dismantle his position. He's right in every word he says. It's just ironic is all. Thanks for showing your true self though.

To be fair I said people like you are part of the problem, not the cause.

And pray tell, how am I a part of the problem? Pointing out how a somewhat sizeable chunk of this forum in particular is white, and has seemingly no ability, or desire, to interact with black people or read the countless examples of how systematic anti-blackness is in society, in literally every aspect of the things we do and consume (Yes, including motorsports and sim racing!) ? Pointing out how stupid it is that you directly replied to this (incredibly serious) topic with

We live in a pc culture now a days, i’m expecting tons of outrage

Which is about as stupid a comment as it comes considering that Kyle said a word that in any regard is a word, and act, much worse then anything that could be even remotely considered 'PC culture'?

So after all that, a white man is telling other white men how they should act around non-white people. I know you come from a good place, but that's just funny.

Common decency goes a long way. Not treating an entire race of peoples as lesser then human goes even further.

And pray tell, how am I a part of the problem?

Because judging by the tone of your posts, you really seem like the type to get offended and accuse someone of racism over anything. I believe people who are so far up their own ass like this actually just have a negative effect on the people they are trying to stand up for. Mainly for constantly making racism a thing even if it's seemingly insignificant. Just to be clear before you twist this paragraph, Larson saying this was not insignificant, it was very stupid for many reasons.

So when you reply with something stupid like "Are you white?" then go to preach to me how bad it is and how bad I am I can't help but think you are one of these people. No, this does not make me racist.

And about being PC, you honestly don't think PC culture is more prevalent compared to say, 10 years ago? Because it is. How the **** would you know anyway? you were a kid if the age on your profile is correct. Again, pointing this out does not make me a racist.

People like you think they know what common decency is, but it just comes off as preachy arrogance.

You know what they say about assuming...

No sentence that starts like this ends well.

exactly my point. 10 years ago no one was getting offended by others “assuming” things.

But yeah I assume that will get twisted to try make me look racist or something.
