Congratulations everyone who is now going in the finals, it looked like an awesomely close competition so you all need to proud of yourself! And for those of you who unfortunately missed the cut, make sure not to give up and come back stronger next year!

Well, I thought I'd give a bit of a recap from my experience at GT Academy 2013 UK finals.

Firstly, a massive thanks to everyone involved with organising the event; HPS Jardine staff, Sony, Nissan UK, Silverstone, BRDC clubhouse staff, the Film crew, driving instructors and all the other people who make the whole event and the national event at Silverstone possible.

As mentioned earlier in this topic, I only managed 18th and got in as a reserve, and that took a lot of time for me. Having been away from GT5 for so long due to a broken PS3, my wife bought me a new PS3 slimline to enable me to try and qualify on the GT6 demo.

I naively assumed any events on the day would be carried out on GT6, but it didn't take me long to feel comfortable with GT5 again. Getting used to it, I finished 19th in the first time trial, then 14th, then 12th in the super-pole. It was very tense, but I had successfully finished 14th overall and advanced to the next day - I had already well exceeded my expectations! đź‘Ť

The pedals were a slightly different angle but very easy to get used to. The wheel though was very different, especially the shift paddles. I am used to keeping my hands in the same place on the wheel, so shifting when turning meant that with the static paddles I didn't get used to it. They also require a bit more effort to pull to get a gear change from. But no hardware issues for anyone that I could see so perhaps it's the right choice for such an event.

I did quite well on Day 2 first event, finishing in 14 place, but it wasn't to last long as the next combination of grand valley and the touring gtr just didn't suit my driving at all and I unfortunately finished 13th while the top 12 went onto the finals.

Whilst gutted, I was then didn't feel so bad when I saw how much the top 12 wanted it. A lot of them had put in a lot of effort into fitness that alone meant I did not deserve a top 12 position. I believe the top 12 were the best top 12 of the day...I was very, very happy with 13th!

I stayed the whole time and whilst I didn't see the driving, media or part of the fitness tests, I shouted as much encouragement to the final 12 as I could during the press ups and the bleep test.

Very impressed with everyone and still a bit dazed to have been involved in such an event where everyone was so good. Gutting for the guys who didn't make the final 6 but that's life and motorsport is no different.

Can't wait to see hot GT Academy unfolds :)

- btw, I though the cars weren't supposed to be accumulating miles? I've been resetting my game data every day since with the wear off the cars still seem to pick up miles. ???

The cars odometer picks up miles but the engine does not wear with tire wear off (online driving only). Hopefully they alter this in GT6 so the odometer matches the engine mileage no matter what.

Also someone had mentioned that the tuned Z can not be used online when the "tuning prohibited" box is checked , but that isn't true. All cars in the game can be used with that box checked as long as no settings/parts (other than brake setting) have been changed from how you receive the car.

Actually, it still doesn't work, trust me we've tried.

I think it may be due to using the restoration tickets on them, that's all I can think of. Tidgney, nasty, a bunch of us tried everything to get it to work to no avail. So we're using them with tuning allowed, just have to trust eachother.

So with tuning allowed it will remain at 0miles?

wow thats dumb.

but now that i think about it; yes they were picking up miles but not power or PP

I hope they get rid of the break-in B.S. completely...

Are you sure? I got it to work one night by going into the setting and resetting everything to default, even if it already was. After I did that it let me on track with tuning restricted.

A huge congratulations to each of the six who qualified for race camp, all of whom totally deserve it from what I saw over the two days. Really pleased for markyboy and Tidgney in particular, after trying so hard each year to get through!

Adam was in a league of his own in the gaming section, Maz and I agreed that there hasn't been a single UK national finalist from any year who could match his combination of both outright speed and his indifference towards the huge amount of pressure that the competitors are put though.

If any of you six have any questions about Race Camp, send me a PM and I'd be happy to try and draw on my experience to help in any way I can!

Totally agree, I haven't heard a single person say something positive about those paddles. Incredibly frustrating that they aren't attached to the wheel.

Yeah, have you ever used the restoration ticket on it?

That seems to be the issue imo. 'cause before I used that, it would get in with tuning prohibited fine.

Glad others can see that now, he's been kicking our butts in Pure for years xD

Yeah I used the ticket as soon as I got it from Bill

Man, then wth is causing random people to not be able to get their cars in?

I dunno. I used the same ticket on the same car that I sent to Barrett and I couldnt get in.

Rich had to send me a new car and I was able to get that one in.

I've always been able to get mine in tuning prohibited. Before and After ticket. (I bet the one I sent to the lounge account will be able to as well)
I've never touched a single setting on it though.

I have run into this issue once before, where all settings were set to default and it wouldn't allow the car (was a different car) with tuning prohibited. I was able to get it in by copying a different tuning setting back to setting "A" and then it allowed it even though the settings looked the same.
Also, a new car can be obtained with a level 12 ticket.

Just did a few laps, about 2 hours and miles are still at zero, I didn't change any track settings etc and I had used a restoration ticket.

Btw is there a difference between the 2011 and 2012 370z GT Academy Version? They have same power and PP but the '12 version seems more torquey especially in 2nd gear

Quite a big difference actually. The (GT Academy Version) car from 2011 has more power than the (GT Academy) one from 2012.

Ah ok thanks. Was the Italian already? Can't seem to find anything with goooogle..

BTW, it's weird that in the conditions that were mailed to us personally is stated that only 4 (one of each country) will go through to Silverstone, but on the "introduction" sheet at gran-turismo.com it says that 6 in total will go through from the Nordic finals.

Thank you for your kind words Alex. It was great to meet you and Maz.

Is there any info of the other national finals anywhere?

Actually there are 2 finals today! One naturally being the national finals of NL and BE, but there is a second competition starting. One person can win a Super Wild Card which grants access to the international final directly!

GTHQ will cover this, live updates will be posted on Twitter

Thanks for the update Djie!

Don't wanna keep in the dark about any of the Territory Finals if we can help it.

GTHQ does a great job đź‘Ť I'm friends with Frank on FB.

Haven't been added yet I take it. I'll hop on in a few hours and send you a request đź‘Ť
