I don't think so. Basketball is a team sport. If this "one player" argument was true, almost every single teams in the NBA is about that "one player", not just Chicago. Another way to look at it would be, if you take the best player out of almost any NBA team, their record will reflect it. Chicago also has 2, 3 players who could be a #1 on a bad team.

I do agree on Rookie/Sophmore game. If any single event would be mildly interesting, that would be it for me as well.

Yes your right, I over simplyfied it. I don't perceive basketball as not a team sport. It takes all 5 and sometimes 8 to be competitive in the league at a minimum. I wasn't trying to imply that it doesn't. But with respect to Chicago, I disagree that they have 3 guys that could be number ones. They have 2, IMO; Dang is part of their game. But Bozer stopped being a number 1 two years ago, and Bogan has never been a true number one. Apart from those guys who else do they have. The Bulls are +24 with Rose in the lineup, +18 with Dang. Take Rose or him out and what is left? A losing record.

Whether or not that extends to every team in the league, I don't think it does. The top teams all have 2 and most have 3 main guys, but they also have at least 2 to 4 others that are solid #2's, that could be #1's on bad teams, as you state. I don't see that with Chicago. I still believe that they fold without Rose. I don't see where their offense would come from without him in the line up. Just my opinion of them. Don't get me wrong, they're a good team, as long as he keeps playing at the level he is, but I don't see where the team can make up for his 24+ points a night.

First of all, you can't put math into something like this, as scoring average on a good team like Chicago doesn't tell the whole story. Those numbers are where they are, because they are the result of team decision. Boozer could score 30 a night, if you let him. And guys less than Boozer, Deng, Noah has been #1 on bad teams. If you don't agree with that, I can agree to disagree, it's not important.

But in an argument like this, you can't take Rose completely out of equation, as you are making a claim that Rose is so unique over other star players, that without Rose, they could not win. So in place of Rose, it would be only fair to put in another substitute all-star(take your pick).

As I said, if you are simply going to take the #1 player out of any teams, you will see that most team records will reflect that. Chicago is not unique.

P.S. Not that I follow Chicago, but what I've been hearing regarding Chicago's success this year is defense. Good team defense beats any one-man team, every time. ;)

Why is everything in the NBA rigged for Blake Griffin? Refereeing, all star appearances, slam dunk competition victories....... Anyone who watched the slamk dunk comp would know Derozan had far better dunks than Griffin yet Griffin still got through. McGee I think it was, far more deserved a victory with Derozan in a solid 2nd.

NBA All-Star Game tonight! Good luck to both the East and West All-Stars (go West!).

It's official, folks- Carmelo Anthony's going from Mile High to the Big Apple. He's going to the Knicks in a trade. It's either a Nuggets-Knicks trade or a Nuggets-Knicks-Timberwolves trade. But, welcome Melo's going to the Knicks.

Thoughts?

THANK GOD!!! I am so sick and tired of listening to this on the Colorado news EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!!! Plus, I'm originally from NY, and a Knicks fan, so the victory is double sweet!!!

Melo and Stoudamire together?! Or is Amar'e part of the trade? This could make Knicks a very formiddable team from now on, I like it.

ESPN reports that it is done, but technically, it's supposed to be "official" tomorrow.

I hate it, but I am happy for the New York fans. They haven't been respectable since Patrick Ewing, and he sucked. If Chris Paul end up there next season, I might start following Major League Soccer(football).

This is good news for NBA trade junkies. With the big trade out of the way, smaller trades can now move forward. I hope we can land Kevin Durant or somebody like that. We might be able to trade Greg Oden for his autographed shoes or something.....

Billups used to be damnnear one of the best players in the league. I wonder how much he have left in his tank? Hopefully, not too much. D'Antoni + Billups...... :nervous:

Geez, what's with the hate?:sly: Don't you guys find it kind of exciting, a new really great team? It's not like Melo left Nuggets for lack of winning either, didn't it all stem from a disagreement with management there? Looks like the Knicks have also acquired Corey Brewer. However they lost Raymond Felton, but with Billups around perhaps they no longer needed him.

He should have gone to the Raptors though, they could use a superstar small forward.

But you have guys have a few players I like (Barg and Barbosa)

Wow, another aussie following the NBA awesome 👍
Go Hornets!

Derozan too, don't forget him, he's almost on the verge of being a superstar, he's already a star.:) I like Mago (Bargnani), but he does need to step up his defence, but no questioning his offensive ability. Our best small forward atm is Kleiza, and he's out due to injury right now. Actually, now you mention it playing behind Anthony at Denver was the reason Kleiza left them in the first place. I bet you're hoping like hell Chris Paul doesn't leave, he sure is a great player.👍

Yeah, I hope he stays at the hornets for awhile, he does some nice plays and freakish passes.

But eventually he'll go to the Knicks, I reckon at least.

There's no doubt Carmelo is still a very solid player. This trade may give the Knicks a little more sizzle and fire. I am absolutely NOT expecting the Knicks to be power team of the East anytime soon. I don't see them being like the Celtics, the Magic, or the Heat out East. They do have some talent.

Now to my five-under-.500 Rockets. We got a back-to-back starting with Detroit tonight and at the Cavaliers the night after. Time to get back to work, NBA teams and fans!

You have to understand, Paulie. This is a birth of another superpower. Only problem is, in the NBA, superpower = major market. This kills small market teams, especially the one's that actually care to compete like Denver, Portland, etc.

I just checked to see when was the last time NBA Champion actually came from a small market city. Back in the late-70's when Seattle('79) & Portland('77) won. That is over three decades ago. I guess some might consider Detroit a small-ish market. They've had some success, but they are the exception.

And I don't know about Seattle, but when the Blazers won, it had so much to do with luck. We had a good team, but very injury-prone. They came into the Finals as an underdog, but they all happened to be healthy & playing great ball at that particular time.

P.S. Toronto is like another country. Who cares. :P

Well see I don't know my American geography all that well, and which cities are big and which aren't. All I know is this should make for some more entertaining basketball.....at the top of the league, but yes it definitely hurts the lower segment of the league, teams like ours in small markets start to feel the pinch.
I suppose the question here is, do you think Denver will now drop right out of contention without Anthony and Billups?

Edit: Looks like my Raptors are about to lose to Charlotte, poor refereeing, poor defence and poor ball control leading to too many turnovers.

What are you, from another country? :P Sorry, I can't expect you to know from the large cities to smaller cities. Of course, with the exception of cities like NY, LA, etc. My bad on that one.

Just imagine similar thing happening in your country. Just large cities & markets winning all the trophy, nearly without fail. It's not easy being a fan of small market teams. We don't have the pull, financially, or in personnel, that larger cities & market enjoy.

It is only fair to note that Portland has enjoyed mega-funding since the late '80's, thanks to its' billionaire owner, Paul Allen. Co-Founder of Microsoft. Still we have impossible time trying to attract free agents, because: 1) Small market = no sponsorship income or media exposure. 2) Mostly year around crappy weather. We are not exactly Miami, or So-Cal. Not New York, or even Texas.

In regards to Denver: There is no question that Denver is now in a rebuilding mode. To be fair, they weren't going anywhere with the roster they had. Hopefully, their new GM actually has some "GM" I.Q.

Have you heard a rumor that the Sacramento Kings may consider a move to Anaheim? My problem is... I think the Clippers use the Honda Center for Preseason games. Staples Center is the Lakers' home to me. The Clippers just share the Lakers' house.

Anyhow, my Rockets took care of business. We won 108-100. The Rockets will need to win at least 75% of these remaining 25 games to stand any playoff hopes. Soft spots in the schedule mean nothing if you can't win. Thankfully for Red Rising, we took care of business. Up next is at the Cavaliers tomorrow night. No Rockets played in the All-Star Game, so we basically got five days rest.

My Rockets won. How did YOUR team do tonight (assuming they played)?

And I think it was to the San Jose before that? It's not so much a rumor, but Kings are very much looking for a new home right now. Situation is very similar to how Seattle lost the Sonics. Nobody wants to man-up and finance a new arena. I haven't been following the situation or anything, but from what I've read & heard, if Sacramento can't find the money to build a new arena, Kings are moving. In these tough times, economy wise, I highly doubt that state capitol of a bankrupt state could come up with that kind of tax money. Also, I think it was one of the NHL team owner(don't remember the city) who offered to settle the $100 million debt that the Kings or Maloof's has, just to relocate to their city & arena. Sounds like a deal to me, if I owned the Kings. :dopey:

It wasn't easy, but the Rockets won 124-119 in Cleveland. Our next game is another back-to-back. We're back home to host the Nets Saturday night. A recent trade has gotten Deron Williams to play for the Nets. The Rockets were too sloppy on defense for most of the game. However, they tightened up when they absolutely had to.

Again- ex-Jazz player Deron Williams will play for the Nets to take on my Rockets on Saturday night. Hope my boys can keep this rock rolling. They basically need to win at least 75% of their remaining games to have any playoff hopes.

Very entertaining game on ESPN tonight. Spurs outlast the Thunder in SA 109-105. Physical game, blood, face slaps, flagrant fouls, double techs (Duncan/Durant  ) but in the end the 45 bench points from the home team sealed it. Nice win.

Now its the Hornets / Clippers............................ermmmmmm................................Chris Paul v Blake Griffin...................the battle of who loves themselves more. [/honest opinion]

Raptors beat the Bulls today and the Knicks knocked down the Bucks in their first outing with their new players.

Utah's move today was a stroke of genius. They obviously learned lesson from teams like Cleveland, Toronto & Denver. They unloaded their star while they still had the leverage. They realized that they don't have anything going this year, or the next. With their acquisition today, they look very promising two years or so from now.

It was a reset, and great one at that. 👍 still hate u

Well I wish I could watch the Clippers v Hornets game, game looks interesting and CP3 has dropped a double double. Lets see if the Hornets can pull a win off. :)

They pulled it off, overall good effort by the team, with West getting to work with 22 points and 8 Rebounds.

HELL YEAH 1,000 posts.

Hey Stavingo, you can actually get the NBA League Pass on the NBA website and watch every and any game you like. What is it something like $20 a month? You can watch it in HD as well if your download limit is large enough, I plan on watching the Raptors vs Bulls game soon.

Edit: OK this is wierd, Raptors have an affinity for players called Johnson, they just acquired James Johnson from the Bulls, already having Amir Johnson and using a 10 day contract from D-League player Trey Johnson recently. James Johnson was the rookie I chose in an NBA Live game after I missed out on Derozan, so bizarrely he's now actually on the Raptors. He's a black belt martial artist too, so I have confidence he'll be an asset.

I would get the NBA League Pass but I'd have to fork out the money and most of the time I'm at school, hopefully they replay the game on One HD or something.
