The title "Needle Point" really fits the bill for that race. Any of you guys Platinum it yet? I've about 8 trophies to go, haven't really touched online yet though.

I got the platinum 2 weeks after I bought the game, middle November.

I not too long ago got Platinum and it's the 1st ever one I gotten too so I was super happy about it 
Definitely have some funny stories to tell since playing this game. I guess i'm not really one for attracting friends in this game because everybody almost hates me for taking them out. I thought it was really fun to do it though no matter what anybody said. I played too many racing games where you had to be clean or follow under some sort of conduct. My all-time frustration from GT5 was to patiently wait until there was a opportunity to make a clean pass so no would complain if I messed them up, definitely don't have to worry about it in this game, just wreck them out of your way

I had a friend online who plays with some other guys who don't tolerate getting wrecked whatsoever. They tried to do 'clean' races in this game and literally apologizes to each other if they do accidentally take each other out and I thought isn't that what you're suppose to be doing? I do it to them relentlessly because I do love seeing the cars roll and tumble. They literally call me a jerk and all other names you can think of for doing it but I really didn't care. My question was really why they was playing the game if they know getting taken out bothers them so much? I come across so many people online who come with this expectation of special treatment and I wonder why is that? I tell so many people they need to play a different racing game where you can expect players to be well behaved, not play a game where using every dirty trick in the book to have an advantage is encouraged.

I guess... I won't lie I've gotten slight frustration from it, but I usually get them back. I did have a group of friends I use to play with all the time that loves to takedown people and we have have a grand time doing it, but they haven't played it since Black Ops 2 came out. Hopefully they'll return, taking down whiners is starting to not be fun anymore since they just whine and do nothing else, I want them to come at me

The only other game I came close to getting a Platinum was Hot Pursuit. Only had to get that last trophy by taking a snapshot of the Ford GT at night but been too lazy to do it.
Yeah I had a go last night and struggled.

Do I need to do anything special to access the Ultimate Speed Pack content?
In order to get access to the Ultimate Speed Pack content, you will have to perform a software update after the 18th of November:
PS3
You will be informed by your console that an update is available for download.
Once you download the update, the Ultimate Speed Pack will be downloaded to your console along with other updates, including the in-game store.
You will need to navigate to the in-game store to claim the Ultimate Speed Pack

So, as I'm writing this, I've finally finished unlocking all the mods for each car, completed all the races, Platinum'ed it (my second one ever) as of yesterday, spent so far 96 hours playing it (60 of those in single player), driven altogether a modest 7756 kms and undeniably had a blast along the way.
Personally, I rarely spend this much time playing a certain game these days and can't wait to break into the 100 hour barrier once I get my hands on the DLC and possibly 'dreamshots'/photomode (still crossing my fingers for that one).
As much as I trashed it prior to release for not having features that were in the original and Criterion's choice of title, I love it, even with its share of shortcomings (bugs, glitches and whatnot). It's definitely my favourite driving game of the year and one of my favourite of this generation as well, including Hot Pursuit.
