And a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR to round off the classic open top 50's Le Mans racers.
Here's a few shots for you which I took in London in February.
Note the back of the car - that's not a boot lid (trunk lid) - its an air brake which the driver deployed when slowing from high speed. It enabled the drum braked 300 SLR to stop nearly as well as the Jaguar's which had discs.
Wouldn't it be great if this could be in the "Fun Pack" - I can't see it being in the "Le Mans Legends" because of the tragic accident involving a 300 SLR in 1955 - I wonder if enough time has passed for Mercedes-Benz to allow it to appear in a game.
would have liked the 250 GTO but I guess there is still a chance.
The problem with the 250 GTO is that we don't have any cars to compete with it so it would be in a class of one - I would love to have a 250 GTO, but only if some of its period competitors were also added to the game (e.g. Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato, Jaguar E Type Lightweight, Cobra 289 Le Mans Hard Top, Corvette C2, TVR Griffith 400) - maybe in PC3?
At the moment there is a problem with single class cars like the Merc 300 SL, Aston Martin DBR1/300 and based on what has been leaked so far (although of course it may not be accurate) SMS are creating a whole load more single class categories. There are some cars like the Ferrari Daytona which has no real competitors in the game, but has artificially been placed with a Camaro and a 240Z. The addition of these packs - Porsche, Ferrari, Le Mans Legends and Fun is an opportunity to fill out the classes, which I hope isn't lost. In the Fun Pack I would like to see a Mustang to go with the Camaro plus a De Tomaso Pantera GT4 and Corvette C3 L88 to go with the Ferrari Daytona. The Porsche pack could contain a 911 RSR 3.0 to also compete with the Daytona, a 356 to compete with the Merc 300 SL. The Ferrari pack will presumably include the 250 TR to compete with the DBR1 Aston. It would obviously be great if the Le Mans Legends could include a Jaguar D Type. It looks like SMS are including the Porsche 917K - that would need the competing Ferrari 512M and 512S.
The Can Am version of the 917 could likely be in a class of one unless the fun pack included appropriate period Can Am cars such as the McLaren M20, Lola T260 and Shadow DN2. Much to look forward to over the coming year, but I just hope as many of the classes as possible receive extra cars and we don't get too many single cars with no competition in the game.
It would be nice to get an MX5 to compete with the GT86 currently in the game and hopefully split that current road car class into vintage and modern - I did a race yesterday in a 1973 BMW 2002 against a period Escort Mark One and it was rather spoilt by having a GT86 and a modern truck in the same race!
The makes I would most like to see added are Alfa Romeo, Lola and Subaru - hopefully one or more of each in the Fun Pack.
