New GT5 footage shows improved detail and textures

Apparently it seems that those who are taking part in the GT Academy finals get to test drive one of the latest most up to date builds of GT5 or more specifically an up to date build of the Fuji track.

Here's the link: http://www.playstationuniversity.com/new-gt5-footage-shows-improved-detail-and-textures-2483/

after seeing this I really don't know what to expect from GT5 in terms of graphics when it launches because this upgrade is just phenomenal, even the lighting has been improved almost 10x's over GT5p lighting.

PS University say they got the screens from NeoGaff but didn't provide a link to NeoGaff so I've provided the link below for those who want to check out the official NeoGaff thread where the pictures came from.

They are not at the same part on the the track...look at the track display on the left, I also noticed that the newer version had more of an elevation change and the mountains in the back did not line up too. But still it looks at least 3 times better, look at how the sun light comes over the mountains, blue and vivid, and how that grass mixed with the mud makes you not want to drive in it haha very nice. Just when you think how can they make it look even better they do it, great job worth the wait. New to me also thanks!

EDIT: Perhaps they are at the same spot after all...I got confused, it happens...and yes I will start following the News threads.

I wonder if the chewed up grass is dynamic, rather than just pre drawn textures? Anyone who's screaming for skidmarks think they might go that far? There have been games that lay down tyre marks on grass but that's looking quite a bit better so I don't know, maybe that's what five years hard work can give you.

I seriously doubt that, would be great but its pretty unrealistic.
We still have MotorStorm: Pacific Rift though. ;)

I'm not sure if it's unrealistic or not, I have a feeling that the tyre marks on the track in the TT demo are low res maps with a fair bit of filtering (as you drive over them you can kind of see the jaggies but a bit blurred) and that they could quite possibly be dynamic.

Something similar using a pixel shader to draw grass or dirt depending on the value of a pixel in a low res map applied to the track edges, I wouldn't say impossible.

I'm going to say different times of year/seasons and not chewed up grass from crap drivers.

Looks so damn awesome. I hated the clean textures from Prologue. Made the tracks look like they had never been raced on.

See, this is exactly one of those things I've been referring to.

I'll just leave it at that being I don't want to derail the thread.

I'm not sure, but you might be taking what I said out of context, perceiving it as a compliment - which it isn't.

Either that, or I'm not paying attention.

if you look at the straightway, you can see that they have tried to map some natural vegetation. There appears to be something like those dandelion seedlings all over the place and parts of the track aren't covered in grass either.

I think the GT5:P Fuji is based off GT4's 2005 Fuji where they made it before the real track was finished (the remodel) so it was perfectly new, since then they have gone back and made touch ups which are general wear and tear. Looks nice.

I like,it reminds me of what they did when updating Eiger Norwand for prologue.Coming from GTHD then onto GT5p it felt as they'd updated were the edges of the track were worn based on people's driving line.
When coming off the bridge (clockwise) lots of people in the GTHD replays were dropping two wheels onto the grass during the left hand kink.By the time GT5p came out that same line was worn away.

I wonder if PD have been checking the TT or online data and seeing were people use a little bit more than they should, and reflecting that into their track design. If they are,it's a unique way of doing it,they have access to thousands of virtual laps from GT5p,and creating little details around that data would give it an added sense of realism.

I posted this in the news thread, but I'll post it here as well

I made an "enhanced" version of the Super GT Fuji vid - Gives a better impression of what GT5 will look like :)

If you look closely you can see the flowers and grass moving as cars go past, and chunks of debris get thrown up as the cars go off track at 19 secs

The upgrade to lighting is incredible. They have finally fixed whats been bothering me about GT5P for the longest time. Everything looks fresh and vibrant.
