New GT5 footage shows improved detail and textures

Cloud pattern is different too. You can see that the grass is a different shade, and the roughed areas near the curbs. More texture detail in the sand pits. Even that green matting on the curbs is different, plus some more muddy/dirt areas and one new section on far mid left near the railings. On the right side there are more orange bits and a long white structure that appears to go over the road.
And the extra tyre marks off course

That's a row of barriers to stop people short cutting the chicane, two different layouts of Fuji on display in those pictures.

Love the new textures, the track looks more 'alive' in this latest build. Be interesting to see what they have done to the other tracks.

thanks, makes sense when I look at it now

Would you believe they added an extra power line tower on the distant far left mountain? :dunce:
A few extra trees in that middle, and some are a lot taller than before.

If the clouds are 3D and dynamic, along with the weather/time of day, then I'm going be in heaven!

I seriously doubt that, would be great but its pretty unrealistic.
We still have MotorStorm: Pacific Rift though. ;)

Here's the sort of thing I was talking about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX2TylpqI7Q

Where grass and earth is drawn is down to the density map, a low res black/white map. If you were to alter the density map then the changes would show up in realtime on the landscape.

I'm not saying this is what they're doing, only that it's not out of the question.

Excellent job PD! This is exactly the area GT5 needs to focus on improving and they are doing it. Pretty late in the game for texturing maps but good stuff!

New build of Fuji vs GT5 Prologue, if you can't see the differences you need glasses :)
Much denser and better grass and the white/yellow Dandelions off course, and that curb is actually 3D now and sticks up

hate to burst your bubble but, prologue already had 3d curbs. Most of the things you're pointing out and making a huge fuss about, are nothing new, except the dandelions.

yeah I was just about to edit my post with that track. Seems they finished some tracks before others.

Not at the same corner and the same type of curb...
They had these zig-zag curbs on certain parts of Fuji, these are still there, but the flat type curbs are now 3D as shown and actually stick up enough to change driving dynamics and grip. It looks like a good 3-4 inches off the ground.

There are some flowers on Fuji I think in Prologue, but no where near as much, and the grass is way denser now. And as the picture shows, on exact same location on the track, there are now both white and yellow Dandelions where there were none before
Picture is worth a thousand words as they say.

The pic posted is from Eiger, a different track, so I don't know what your tryin to prove...

well, if you read, I said they probably finished some tracks before others. Eiger was probably completely finished since they used it to show off the game. Now they are catching up with the others.

That!Seeing Indy track after PERFECT London or Tokyo is pure pain.If that a reason for delay it's good.

No, No, No, you are wrong ! Clearly the red stripes are wider than the white stripes now.......

In all seriousness though, Fuji has been upgraded in the graphics/realism department, so why all the negativity from people? And look at the Quality of the grass in the shot above from Suzuka ! Are you all going to moan when it gets upgraded like Fuji ?

I really don't understand some of the people in here, you show them an improvement in the game and they still find a reason to moan about it, shiney happy people you are not :(

People are only ever happy when there is something to moan about!

They are the same cloud pattern, but the bottom pic has shifted over a bit (2 inches or so), with what looks like more suptle/haze cloud cover added in certain areas, maybe this could be volumetric?

I very seriously doubt that they have dynamic cloud changes, I maybe wrong but I think the processing power is needed in other areas.

My thoughts exactly.

Agreed.

I think it's obvious the clouds are the same on both shots. They are not any kind of volumetric clouds a la flight sim, they are just a picture (several layers actually). Being just static images, I don't see how they could change dynamically. If we get different set weather conditions we will be lucky. Talking about dynamic weather is just creating innecesary hype.

A game like Armed Assault 2 has real-time day/night cycles, dynamic wind, weather and environmental effects, with changing skies, and it's a first person military sim shooter with tons of AI controlled units, and massive landscape and draw distance. Well you can walk from one side of the island to the other if you really wanted to. With almost Crysis style graphics, so I don't think this type of thing is just for Flight Sims.

I don't see why next gen driving/racing games aren't heading in this direction yet...

How do you know the textures are improved?

They're just different.

And i'm sure PD didn't leave much headroom to include damage, so i'm sure the textures are even poorer when quality is concerned.

Less sterile is the phrase you were looking for.

you're kidding right? Texturing looks far less flat and is way more detailed then before, very impressive stuff

A game like Armed Assault 2... snippety!

That game is a total CPU whore!

I've a Q6600 running at 3 GHz (granted, it's no rocket-ship, but it's about the spec for the time) and two HD4870s, but the game screams for more!!
It's bloody hard, too. :dopey:

They're good videos, by the way! 👍 Been a while since I "played" it, might give it a whirl!

I think GP3 had dynamic weather, though I don't really remember - and I'm pretty sure rFactor 2 is heading in that direction. Hopefully GT is doing the same.

True that. PC games are not to be compared to console counterparts on any technology standpoints.

That said, there have been many console racing games (sims, too) where there has been dynamic weather, but none of them have pushed the boundaries as far as GT5. To be honest, you guys are gonna have to learn to live with racing in one weather environment and at one time of day. At least for GT5.

That looks extremely good, Very well done, That is the type of texture and lighting i was hoping to see. Now the tracks look as good as the cars.

This just annoys me to the extreme. When Kaz said that skid marks weren't essential to the game, I realized he was right. As long as they kept making the physics better, and adding more cars. But this just crosses the line. Release the game, or give me skidmarks. I don't care about updated grass.

For me it's better to have realistic vegetation(grass ,trees...) than skidmarks

Yea, I rather have it look like a "REAL" race track...not some road course that looks like its been tailored, manicured, bathed, and had gussied up..if that makes sense.
